Lily Lightly Customizable?

I bought this pony in a lot a little while ago and I am very excited about the potential it has as a custom! It's got electronics involved-- blinking lights threaded through the dress and light up horn, as well as blinking eyes, all operated by the push of her star pendant-- which I can't wait to mess with.
I am worried, however, about the plastic. This pony is made of a harder more solid plastic than the usual pliable plastic of mlp's, so I was wondering if I'd even be able to paint on her the same way...
Has anyone customized one of these before? What should I do to make her more customizable? Sand her down so paint adheres smoothly?
Is the dress too... i don't know... "Hasbro original" to use in my custom, or should I modify it? I'm not opposed to scrapping it and reworking the lights.
Gimme your suggestions, please!

Ya, that's what I'm hoping most people would say ;p
I actually really hate the dress, it's too big, awkward, and made out of really cheap, crappy material in my opinion.

hmmm interesting. It seems that she left lily lightly's symbol intact, but painted eyeshadow on... so does that mean she can be painted on our not?! D;
...and she completely removed the dress' lights. interesting. sehr schoen ♥
Thanks for fishing up that picture for me! it's a great reference and encouragement to give lily lightly a go!

How'd you do that?  Just cut the dress and wires?  I have 3 or 4 extra LL's, on top of my 2 MIB ones...

I managed to cut the dress completely off but ended up left with the 3 LEDs inside the dress and unsure how to proceed from there...would be interested to see how this thread proceeds.

i just clipped the wires from the dress ...it was so long ago...but i think i remember putting some glue on the ends of them, just for safety sake?

to repurpose the lights from the dress you would need to dismantle the dress, but keep them attached to Lily
