Glitter removal question...
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:55:29 PM »
I recently aquired a brushable Luna and wish to remove her glitter <ugh it's bad I don't like glitter> and was wondering is there a safe way to remove the glitter but not her symbol? any help will be appreciated. I could repaint her symbol but I'd rather not, her eyes will be trouble enough...

I think that any product you use would take her symbol off as well. Goof Off, Acetone, Sanding.. All would damage the symbol.

You could try using full strength rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball on it.  I know that if you rub it over paint it will take off small amounts, so maybe that will loosen the glitter enough for you to flake it off without really damaging the symbol too much.  You could always retouch it if some of the paint came off, which would be easier than a full repaint.

Yep it would all ruin the symbol itself and chances are the symbol paint would be removed before the majority of the glitter.

M'k...Trying to remove both glitter and paint with acitone nail polish remover... has led to the paint being removed, but the glitter seems to have not been touched. I find this odd and distressing. Help?

You could try goof off to eat through the glue. Or let the symbol soak in acetone a bit then scrub at it. Both options can potentially damage the pony and eat through the plastic but it is unlikely.

A friend also suggested "simple green" from his workings with Warhammer 40K models but, also said that it may damage the plastic

The only real solution is the Four 'S'es: Solvent, soaking, scrubbing, and swearing.

With a G3 I've removed some glitter off a love wishes with out majorly damaging the symbols, I just used my nails. Hardly pressed, just enough to feel the glitter but not push on the body.  You will still have shiney glue circles that I'm not sure if they will collect dust or not. Dont know what angle you plan to display if that will make them more or less visible in the light. This may also not be helpful at all since it is G3 not a G4

The little black marks are actually dirt stuck to the little circles of glue not damage, I would think with a soap bath it would come off
