Pony restoring - discolored head?
« on: April 17, 2012, 02:24:52 PM »
I guess this is the right place to post it.

So I just received an original Peachy pony and she turned out to have a discolored head, and I'd love to restore her if possible. I've tried to search for solutions but I haven't found anything regarding restoring discolored heads of this type><
I don't have a photo of mine but while searching, I found one with the same problem:

Would anything help, sunfading or something? Or does it make her a bait?

Thank you in advance!

I dont think it will necessarily make her bait...it depends how much it annoys you...if you dont wish her in your collection you ll probably be better trading her for an out and out bait.

Unfortunately, head/body colour differences are common - its just the different parts [one part head and one part body] of the plastic yellowing, degrading, fading or simply changing at different speeds over the years. I suppose you could try fading the darker part of the pony [whether this be head or body] BUT this doesnt mean they will end up the same colour...if the head all over is different in colour from the all over body colour its unlikely that the change is due to fade more likely plastic degrading/changing at different rates and therefore fading will not match the colours.

I've got three suggestions :]
You can try covering the body or the head and try to fade what you've left exposed but I find that pretty time consuming for something that might not be perfect.
If you tie a bow around her neck or put her in pony clothes it can detract attention or completely hide the problem.
Alternatively, you might be able to find another pony that you could swap the heads and bodies of. By some quirk of fate I ended up with two colour-mismatched, (and otherwise baity) Whizzers, but by swapping their heads around I have one baity Whizzer and one quite pretty Whizzer. Peachy's common enough that finding a donor Peachy to swap parts with could be possible, but could take some time to find a good enough match.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do ^_^
I'm in search of my childhood Princess Serena/ Aquamarine with blue and gold tinsel. Have you seen her? <3

I dont think it will necessarily make her bait...

Agreed 100% :) For example, I am personally not bothered by head/body missmatch one bit and i´m sure there are more of  us out there, lol. So if in the end you decide you can't fix her and don't want her, i say just sell or trade her ^^

But I would personally try sunfading the darker part, as was suggested and see how that goes. You might not get it to fit perfectly but you might get it to the level where it doesn't bother you as much.

other than sunfadin, I´m not sure what else could help with this problem without being too risky

I wouldn't bait her. The mismatch isn't to bad, honestly.

Considering she's nearly 30 years old, the plastic sounds like it's holding up rather well.  Discoloration happens because of differences in the plastic when the pony was being manufactured.  :)

Sometimes it can be sunfaded but it's not a huge deal to most collectors if they want that pony enough.
