Anatomy of the New CAM Heads
« on: April 10, 2012, 01:21:26 PM »
So, after getting a starter pack with the new and annoying hard plastic scalps I was curious as to how the hard plastic was attached.  This past weekend I decided to find out and here is what I came up with...

The hard plastic piece is supported by vinyl that is part of the scalp, it is not just glued in around the edges.  You can't really see it in these pics, but there is a thin piece of vinyl glued to the bottom of the hard plastic.  Also I think it would be difficult to just drill holes in the hard plastic scalp to root it because there are 'walls' around the hole where the wig peg is.  I think those would get in the way and make drilling and rooting very difficult.

But-  I am thinking that it could be possible to remove the hair from one of the CAM wig caps, and cut part of the cap out and glue it inside the hole where the hard plastic piece is to make a 'new scalp'.  I'm going to be trying that in the new few days and I will let you know how it goes.

I hope this answers some questions.

Interesting. I'm curious if it would be possible to insert a styrofoam ball into the head as a base, root a piece of fabric or plastic and glue it on to the ball... =X

I bet that would work too.  The only challenge will be finding a ball that's small enough to fit but not so small that it falls out or fits poorly.

dang mattel! that's an evil evil trick you dealt us! :\

or once it's cut out and false scalp rooted and whatnot, a little apoxy or somethin somethin drizzled into the head to lock it in? obviously have to watch for root seep, but would lock the false scalp in place ...

I am guessing they did that so the wig stays in better? What about just rerooting the wig and gluing it on since the hair in the wigs isn't that great anyways? Then if you needed to you could root around the wig where it is soft.

I think it was to keep the wigs on better. The CAM heads I have are the earlier ones without the hard plastic, and the wigs just will not stay on the heads. =p

I have both an old CAM and a new CAM with wigs, and the wigs on the new one does fit better. I actually am debating on what I'm going to do with my sea monster... I have already dehaired an unused wig, and I think I'm just going to root the hair onto that.
