You mean the thing that holds the tail inside of the washer?  I've had good luck with G1s and G3s just by squishing it with my needle nose pilers.  I can't tell you off the top of my head how I squish it, as I haven't done it in a long time, but I think that I'd smash it open end up and then it would flatten a little bit to look kind of like this o_o.  Then, turn the pliers sideways and grip one of the "o" ends and untwist/roll it.  Do the same with the other.  I hope this made sense!  I'm not sure if it will work on every tail, every time, but it has the couple times I've done it :)

Okay. Gotta try this. Thanks!

I tried needle nose pliers to no avail. DH ended up sawing them off.
