WIP: First Custom "Ocean Star"
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:39:09 PM »
Hey guys ^^
Checking in with a few WIP pics of my first custom, just to get some C&C and feedback on how I'm doing. :)
Hope all the lines are smooth and everything :) Her symbol isn't quite finished yet though, I'm not sure how else to portray it. I'm very happy with the fish though :D

How am I doing for a first timer? Are there any things I could improve on before I seal her?

She looks great for your first, I really like the symbol and her freckles! Any plans on the hair colours yet? :)

She has a very simple, clean design. Your lines look steady enough, and very uniform. It looks like she might have some brush strokes, but not much? Its a bit hard for me to tell. Sometimes sealing a pony can help get rid of some of those, in my experience. Also, sometimes buffing her gently with a soft cloth can help too. But rub too hard and the paint can come off.

That said, I honestly think she looks great as she is. Im looking forward to see what else you do with her symbol, since you say it isn't quite finished

Thank you :) The freckles were a bit of last minute inspiration I'll admit but I like them. The fish on her symbols took ages to do and perfect :D
For hair colours, I'm thinking just doing a simple teal and white mix. Perhaps a white forelock, teal mane, and a lock of white just at the base of her mane as well. And her tail would be a mix of the two I'm thinking. She's modelled off of one of my old pony OC's :D

Thanks ^^ My paintwork got better towards the end, I'll admit. Her first few coats were very unsteady. I'll definitely be careful when buffing her paint and sealing her, thank you for the tips ^^

I may only add a few stars to her symbol, but I have some little fake diamonds I'm thinking of adding as well - though I'll need to think over those xD

As I'm heading home tomorrow for three weeks, I won't be able to take her or my supplies with me. Will she be OK, if I leave her unsealed if I can't finish her symbol in time?

She's looking really good. Nice and clean, as well. Her eyes and freckles make her look so cute and innocent! I think it's my favorite part. :)

aw, the symbol is so simplistically cute ^.^
I think this pony would look good with wispy loose curls or waves or something, to continue with the water and care-free theme :)
great job, and your fbr is well done too. You're on the right track ;)

She should be fine unsealed as long as no one is rough with her. Just check her for any scuffs or scratches when you get back. And you may want to gently rinse her in cold water to remove any dust before you seal her, if your paint will allow.

I love the yin-yang fish!  They look fantastic on both sides, and her freckles are very sweet.  My only suggestion would be to consider making her iris a bit thicker on the one side so it matches the other eye a touch better.

As Maniah said, she'll be fine unsealed if no one messes with her, and giving her a cool rinse before sealing to make sure there isn't any dust adhering to her paint job is a good idea.
