Is there a tutorial for a way to rehair with needle and hair? I wanted to make my fiance a pony before I move and don't have time to wait for a rehair tool to come in the mail.

Also this would be my first custom, is there any info on dyeing ponies, deheading them, what paints to use that wont cost rediculus amounts and what kind of sealer. Or any other a info a newbie might need? I'll be working with a g4.

Does walmart or michaels sell acetone?

take a stick (i took mine straight out of the woods), put a needle in it (fix it with superglue if necessary), take a needle with a big eye, cut it crooked to get 1 longer and 1 shorter tooth (with pliers) and TADAAAA: you have a re hairing tool!

Aikarin rerooting tutorial using the wire method. This was my way of doing it as well before getting a rehairing tool.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum that has a bunch of really great tutorials.  If you haven't looked at them, I highly suggest them.  :)  Not sure if there's info for removing g4 heads there, though. With those I usually grip the head, and pull straight up from the neck (the plugs are pretty easy to break, but I haven't broken any). Heating the head under a hot faucet helps too.  To get the plug out of the neck, you gotta take an exacto and slowly poke around in the seam til it comes out.  Don't push too hard, or you may push through the neck and leave a cut, or worse, cut a finger.

Also,  you mentioned dyeing,  if you plan on doing that be aware that the dye can take up to a few months to set in some cases and may bleed into the symbol or hair if you finish the custom before it sets completely.  I avoid dyeing from what I've read about it but I'm no expert at all.

I but my acetone at walmart.  They have a small bottle in the beauty section with the nail polish remover, and a larger can in the hardware near the paint.  If you can't find it there, hardware stores also carry the large cans.

If you ave an Exacto knife the base of those is perfect for making a tool. Just get an appropriate sized needle and modify it and put it in the rotating screw head and tighten it down. This doesnt have the possibility of getting pushed further ad further into the tool like the wooden dowel tool does.

If you decide to go another way I have used a doll needle with what I consider pretty good success.  When I want short hair I thread each strand through two holes to eliminate the need for a cut and knot.  But it works well for knotted or glue dabbed hair as well.  I like how long they are.  I also have had some luck using a big eye needle for G4s.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I just made a rehairing tool with an exacto handle and a long eyed needle snapped off at an angle.  You can also use a long doll hairing needle by threading it with the plug, rooting it from the outside, then knotting the hair and pulling it back up through the head.
