Can Buddy L be rehaired?
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:10:24 PM »
I have a Buddy L pony that I want to rehair and take the mechanism out of.

Some things I'm wondering...

- Can her mane with two rows of close-together plugs be rehaired without cracking the plastic?
- Does anybody know her exact color match on Dollyhair?
- Will the mechanism be able to fit through the opening?
- How do I remove her head without making an ugly seam? (Do Buddy L ponies have plugs??)

 :glitter:
Thank you!!
-Em

i donĀ“t know about the machanism, but i guess electric banana from dollyhair would be a close match in haircolor. ;)

Electric Banana has a green tint to it in the light.. I'd suggest Lemon Drop, myself. But that's just a guess.

This is also a guess, but I think you can request color samples from Dollyhair.. Not certain though. You could ask for samples of a couple yellows and see how they match up.

I've taken one of those guys apart before. No sooner do you get the head off than you disconnect the wire that goes to the light up jewel on the forehead. I believe I took my mechanism out but it took a little work. I'll have to dig it up. I also replaced the batteries on a pegacorn Buddy L and it works again. You can't do that with these guys. I'll look after work tonight.

Here's some pics. Normal head plug. I took one of the wires I never pulled out of the head for fear of ruining the jewel. It will have holes in the belly unless you fill them in.

Thank you for all the responses!  After much work (2.5 hours), sore hands, and blood (yes, blood--exacto knives are evil) ... I removed her mechanism and set her head free!  Special thanks to HavACrumpet452 for the inspirational photos.. I think without seeing your pics as hard evidence I would have given up!

Now about her hair color.  It looks to me too light to be Dancing Butterfly's in some light but too dark to be Baby Tappy's.. puzzling all right!

The colors I'm looking into are Lemon Drop, Napalm, and Butterfly.  That's a lot of choices so I may end up ordering samples after all.  I'm also thinking of adding a touch of Sunlight for a nice subtle glimmering effect.. hmm.    -Em
