This time, Johnny's character "Sam" from the movie Benny & Joon.

mlp base is a engineered pose. Body of a yellow diva pose, head of one of the hunkered down poses.


Full body repaint in flesh tone acrylics. Eyes painted in various oranges, flesh tones, browns, grays and black.


Mane and tail re-rooted in authentic Hasbro pony hair in the colors of black magick, deadly nightshade, devil's food and hazelnut.


All of the plugs were pre-made from a old project I did back when I did the wire method, so I had to revert from using the re-hair tool, to going back to the old method... and... I do not miss it. I had the tendency to make plugs too thick, back when I tied knots at the ends of them and with the re-hair tool, it forces you to minimalize the thickness of the plugs.


If the plugs were long enough, I would have simply cut the old knots off the ends like I usually do... but... weren't long enough.


Sam's outfit is entirely hand-sewn. White socks are bias tape I flattened out, shoes are authentic black leather of which I used a leather puncher to punch holes in, for the laces. I threaded black hemp and tied the shoes on to the feet.


White dress shirt is a white cotton material. Collar detailed in bias tape. Pants hat and coat are a thin faded black denim material. Tie is a wide black ribbon with a dull gray polka dot print. Suspenders are a medium wide black ribbon.


Coat and hat are removable, of course.


Hat has black wire sewn inside the fabric to shape it and is detailed in black ribbon.

 Benny & Joon is one of my favorite movies, and of course Johnny Depp is just stellar.

I must say I admire your customs even more now that I noticed how sloooow sewing actually is... Or rather, figuring out how to adapt existing patterns, or how to create your own if there isn't a readymade pattern available, is what takes an enormous amount of time. x__X But I'm slow at sewing, too.

That being said, the outfit on this one is gorgeous. Amazing work once again!

That being said, the outfit on this one is gorgeous. Amazing work once again!

The sewing itself doesn't actually take that long. In the sense of starting off glueing outfits with partially sculpted outfits when starting out, it does take a number of years to evolve the skill for sewing hems, but oddly when making a custom, the outfit takes the least amount of time compared to the painting and re-hair processes.

I suppose it also depends on the amount of detail a custom requires. The more detail, the longer it can take... x_____x I've ran in to some real doozies but the real straight-forward outfits are usually a breeze.

When fitting fabric on to ponies, I find it's a matter of triangles and rectangles. All the pieces you sew together, usually end up being a form of either of those shapes.
