I need some inspiration, Show me Blind Bag Customs!
« on: May 18, 2012, 01:48:24 PM »
Hey guys, I have several doubles of Wave 1 BB ponies (mostly because no one wants to trade for other waves XD) so I was thinking about customizing some of my doubles.. Maybe a few MGR Ponies and I was considering turning one or two into Merponies. However, I just need a little more inspiration and some tips... especially with dealing with the molded hair.

I made a Surprise custom with my first Pinkie Pie. I really enjoy repainting them to look like the G1/pre-FiM character designs. I'm working on a Firefly right now.

MGRs would be so pretty, and some TAF.  I wouldnt mind seeing some princess ponies.
You could also us those to increase the size of any pony specific heard.

I've done Rainbow Crash with cuts and bruises, a G1 Minty and a couple of random ones.

They are super fun to customize.  With the hair issues.  I usually use a combination of very small wire cutters/an exacto knife to carve out the original hair to prep the bait.  I will say if they are heated a bit then it is easier to cut through the plastic.  Some if you boil you can pop the head clean off and that is also super helpful.  Then sand it smooth and sculpt out a nice round head.  From there it's a matter of choosing how you want to sculpt the hair and also usually the poses you are missing an ear so sometimes you have to work that in there.  Feel free to browse my bb da if you like.  My granny is my fav.

For the hair I did what Sarahlacewing said about removing the head from the body. I stuck the bottom part of a small paintbrush into the head hole (and another one into the hole that's under one of the hooves) for a better hold and used the existing hair lines when painting :) . A tiny, TINY liner paintbrush will be your savior XD .

Lol what a lovely Mimic! I think I'm going to need to use one of the non-glittery blind bags before trying to chop on up XD

These aren't Blind Bags, but the size is about the same and the outcome is about the same. Maybe they will help.
