Pony Corral / Re: Update On The G1 Action Vinyls!

I want to buy them all.  I forgot are these being sold in stores or only on their website?  Are they being sold individually or a few ponies to a set, also are they going to be blind boxes or do we actually know what we're getting?

This is what i remember from the old thread, They will be in retail locations and also on the website. They will probably be individually boxed, and they will be blind boxed. You will also be able to buy them as a set of 16 as well.

Also I found a review of one of TLS's blind box TMNT figures with a ton of pictures for those curious about the general quality.

I remember a thread about how benzoyl peroxide whitened ponies, but ended up staying in the plastic and continuing to bleach it for a long time after and eventually yellowing it. Info on this thread for the curious: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,377336.0.html
Not sure if its the same for hydrogen peroxide, if that's what you used?

As far as masking for sunfading, i've seen masking tape recommended.
But I managed to find this thread http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,288994.0.html
Which uses paint to keep the symbols and stuff safe. It apparently works.

Here's a site that's great for pony restoration, and in particular the section that is relevant to sudfading and such: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/body.html#StainRemoval

Oh good, I'm so glad! I need some of these, especially Princess sparkle!
And they seem like a great company who really seem to care which is great :)

They care more about us then Hasbro does that's for sure. I'll pick some of the set up just cuz of that. My daughter is eyeing Firefly for a custom and she wants Lickety -split and she wants a unicorn as well. I sure would like to have Sundance or Snuzzle.

Still having a hard time getting over those proportions.

They definitely are. I have talked to them in the past once or twice and they were similarly polite and nice to contact. They also said back at that time that they were taking peoples' feedback into consideration, such as the colors and proportions. So who knows, maybe they've tweaked some things.

I think they're really cute either way, and thrilled that g1 collectors are getting a chance to collect something new and good quality.

Pony Corral / Update On The G1 Action Vinyls!

So it's been a while and the original thread on this has sunk into the back pages, here's what i am talking about for the unaware:

These are MLP Action Vinyls (the above are prototypes from the Toy Fair) from the company The Loyal Subjects. They will be in blind boxes and are about 3-4 inches tall with articulation. There will probably be a chase figure or two but i can't remember if that was confirmed.
The prototypes are subject to change so they may not look the same as the picture above anymore.

(There was more info on the old thread, http://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=376450.0
It's a big thread, but there was a bunch of info at the time of the toy fair earlier this year. Keep in mind TLS might have changed some things since it has been a few months.)

These were announced some months back and I was keeping an eye on their facebook for any more info. None appeared.

So I decided to message them on facebook a few days ago. I asked a few questions: Are these ponies still being worked on? When will they be released? And the final was because I was curious: Why did TLS decide to pick up on the g1 license when it seems a lot of their other toylines were traditionally 'for boys'? (TMNT and Transformers were what primarily came to mind at the time)

Here's the reply

Hi -Name-,

Yes, we are indeed still coming out with My Little Pony Action Vinyls, and are hoping to have them out by the end of this Summer.  Trust that we're looking forward to them too :)

We decided to pick up the license, because there's a ton of G1 collectors out there who need something fresh to add to their collections!  Plus, they're so cute!

Thanks again for the support, and I hope we can continue to earn it!

All the best,
TLS

I thought that was super cool so I wanted to let others know.
Also I'm personally hyped that they'll be released in the relatively near future!

Pony Corral / Re: How to fix EXTREME frizz?

Honestly the boiling method has worked wonders for me thus far.
Prime example:

(excuse the spoon, i didn't want to use tongs or pliers for dunking.)

I stuck this poor baity rosedust in a pot of boiling water and then cold water. Did that a few times, brushing it out, that whole thing. It didn't work for a while. Then when i was pretty much like "welp, guess i should cut my losses and see is she looks good with shorter hair...it started to defrizz!

This was the end result. It took me a WHILE to get there. A good 20-30 minutes of dunking and combing out and repeating. I think it took so long because the hair was so so bad?

I stopped when most of the water had boiled away and I was tired of working on this. So she and a few other crunchy hair ponies I have are eventually going to get dunked again.

The process was
Put hair in boiling water for a bit, 10 seconds at most while moving it a bit.
Dunk in cold water, and while I am not sure if the cold water actually fixes anything, it does take the heat out of the water in the pony's hair. Which is a good thing, because the water beforehand is boiling hot.
Brush out pony's hair straight, a comb is probably best.
Repeat a number of times and hope for the best.

Afterwards conditioning the hair with something that is good for dry and lifeless hair and leaving it in for a while is a good practice. The product i used made another pony's hair who was just sorta dull and dry all silky again. I used it on Rosedust, and it worked well on the fixed parts, otherwise it didn't change the crunchy parts.

Now a question similar to the OP's is:

Anyone got any advice for this Build a Bear RD's hair?

(I found her at a Good Will.)

Her hair is totally wrecked in its current state, I am thinking of boiling it like i did with my rosedust. But does anyone know if that will negatively affect the plush?

Pony Corral / Re: MLP G1 Vinyls Coming Soon
« on: February 18, 2016, 03:09:27 PM »
Hey guys, I got a reply from TLS a few days after I sent them a private message on Facebook. I was mostly saying what others here were saying about design issues and also being blind boxed. I suggested doing packaging similar to the re-release collector ponies.
Here's their reply:

"Thanks for contacting!  With regard to the ponies shown at NYTF, these were just paint samples.  We're still in design mode, so trust that many of your suggestions will be addressed.

Also, we're not married to packaging--just making great product.  MLP Wave 1 will indeed be a blind boxed figure, but we may offer them within window packaging as well.  We've done so with all other lines in the past.

Thanks again for the support, and I hope we can continue to earn it.

Wishing you all the best,
TLS"

Pony Corral / Re: Cleaning and restoration problems

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. Looks like I have a couple of projects for the week ahead...  I've tried de-smoozing one of the ponies today and some of the dots have come off, but my fingernails are really not up to it, so I think I'll be shopping for a stiff brush tomorrow!

That doesn't look like dirt to me, its too dotty and random with no smudgey dirt spots to accompany it.. Pindot/Smooze more than likely.

Also i've dealt with a few smoozed up ponies, a super hot (boiling hot, but the heat didn't transfer fully into the bucket I was using, energy loss and all that) using oxiclean bath worked wonders. After they came out of the water the smooze just rubbed off. Hopefully that will work for you.

A bit of a warning. I used a scrubby pad thing to get rid of some VERY stubborn smooze on a Firefly, it worked but ended up sanding her a bit. So she has a few slightly faded spots on her, I don't really mind it myself, but I wanted to give you a heads up about that.
(And I probably shouldn't have used a straight scrubby pad, but i was pretty done at that point, I must confess.)
Just something to keep in mind when looking for something to brush/scrub with!

Customs / Customizing Questions (On Hair and Sealants)
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:55:52 PM »
Heya,
I was wondering about the best places to get genuine nylon hair/ MLP nylon that ships relatively quick? I'd love to order from DH, but a lot of their colors are sold out. And RetrodollUS is also an option, but the majority of the colors are pre-orders that will evidently take at least a month to arrive.

I'm getting my first bait lot on Monday, and I am really excited to fix them up. A number of them need new hair, and I am hoping to get started as soon as I can, so I was wondering if there was another place I could order from? Or perhaps even buy from someone here?
(And I can get from retrodollUS if needed, but i wanted to check first.)

Also! I am going to be experimenting on some of the baity baits. I was thinking of coloring and drawing on ponies with watercolor pencils and pastels. Not sure if anyone's done that before, or if it will work at all. But since I don't like working with paints much, I thought I'd give it a go.

Though, I am wondering if G1s (and all the gens, really) will react poorly to Mr. Super Clear? That's what I am planning on for my sealant and primer.

Thanks!

These are beautiful, I hope they all find their homes soon!

Introductions / Hello!
« on: June 25, 2015, 12:11:53 PM »
Hello, I am Starlight, I am happy to have found this site as it seems to have a lot of good resources and people.
I am entirely new to Pony collecting, I have a few G4 things like the third series set of fashems and some Pinkie Pie plush. My fave G4 ponies are Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie at this point.
I have also made the very recent discovery that G1 would be fun to collect and care for. (I am going to blame my dear friend Gustybv for this eheh.)
I get my first g1 today hopefully, a SkyRocket! Quite looking forward to it.

I used to collect pokemon merch avidly, but have since lost interest over the years. I have always been fond of collecting things though, so I am hoping that I can attain many pretty ponies for myself. There's also something nice about owning and taking proper care of a long out of production piece of history like G1s.

I am an artist, and a hopeful writer as well.

Hope to make friends with everyone here, and I hope to learn how to restore less than top shape G1s too.
Have a good one fellow pony lovers. :3
