hate her as a character (and there are many long, funny stories behind that) but I have her NIB from the first wave she was released
she IS pretty to look at! I might buy her loose to display and style her mane :inlove:

haha that is strange!
not going to lie though, I love the mold they used, I would love to see a Princess Luna or Princess Cadance in that mold - they don't have the weird tiny upper thighs, it just looks so elegant and well proportioned!

She was on another thread in a photo, pictured with a line of other knockoffs..
..but what's with the tumor on her shoulder??

I noticed that a lot of rehairs have ridiculously long hair and manes that look like they were rehaired and just never cut. I'm not a huge fan of it, even though it does look pretty and brushable/braidable!
What about some rehairs with cuts to the same length/style as the originals? I saw a chart that gave precise lengths for each ponies for rehairers.
So I am curious since I haven't seen that many, where are all the 'short' haired rehairs? :) Or maybe I've seen them and wasn't able to tell it was a rehair! Ha!

Pony Corral / Re: Newbie questions (glue, neon hair)

Thank you guys for the wonderful feedback!! I hope someday I can give advice to others! :frolic:

Try to avoid her hair getting wrapped around her in storage especially in warmer climates.  I'm pretty sure you can flat-iron her with no issues.
oh dear, I live in Arizona and it'll be in the 100s (possibly up to 105, eeek) when she is expected to arrive.. and my mailbox turns into an oven in this kind of heat (problem being the mail box unit is a quarter mile from my house so I never hear/see the mail truck!)
Hope that short amount of time in the heat doesn't do any damage :/

Pony Corral / Newbie questions (glue, neon hair)
« on: May 06, 2014, 11:57:17 PM »
I started collecting G4 ponies back in 2011 and have a pretty unhealthy sized collection! Some styled, some unstyled, some boxed from the first wave, some rarer, some not so.
With G1s I want to eventually be a restorer, I feel it is a shame for some salvageable antiques no longer in production to be turned into customs because of fixable things! Plus I have always been a crafty person. Restoring sounds like my jam.
I've already gotten the thick smell of cigarette smoke out of my Glory. I store my ponies in my walk in closet, and even just having her displayed in there, I could smell it faintly when I opened the door. That's how bad it was. Now I can only smell it faintly on her body if I put her right up to my nose, but holy smokes (pun intended), not to brag, but I am impressed at myself how well I fixed it! It was a lot of very warm/hot washes with soap and water and a 15 minute scrub with a soft toothbrush with a peroxide & baking soda paste (1 part peroxide 2 parts baking soda), done twice one day apart.

Anyways, I am such a sentimental person and I think the G1s are precious little pieces of history, that is why I am being so careful and reading as much as I can. I don't want to ever accidentally 'ruin' or so much as put a scratch on them :P

So something that confuses me is supergluing the neck. Why is this done? Some ponies I have have glued necks, some don't, I've heard G3s are notorious for having a lot of glue in their neck, but if they were glued how would their heads be moveable?
What would the reason be for two of the G1 ponies I have to have superglued necks, but not the other? This must mean the pony was pried open for some reason at some point..?

Also I purchased a Surprise in wonderful condition. I know there are problems with color bleeding if neon hair colors are boiled or even put in hot water (or is it just boiling?), so if I were to wash and style her mane and tail, what do I need to be careful of, and things I absolutely should not do? Is a gentle flat ironing okay?

Thanks in advance for putting up with my lame newbie questions, haha!

@UrocyanFox haha, thanks! i think I do tend to add a little G2 to my art, maybe it stems from my love of long legged skinny sighthounds (particularly Whippets!), sending you a PM with the fanfic now! 8)
and @Griffin gosh your comment made my day yesterday, your feedback is so lovely and so appreciated! thank you!!

Arts & Crafts Corral / G4 & G4 style pony arts! (warning: pony heavy)
« on: March 27, 2014, 02:29:43 AM »
so here's a sampling of my art, my style is obviously very G4 influenced (oddly enough when I first began drawing it was LESS G4 style influenced!)

here's a Fluttershy I drew for a dear friend of mine a while back - took eons to finish (I'm a slow artist) but he loves it so it was worth it!

my character Moxie and a friend of mine's character, the backstory is that Moxie has a gimpy right wing and generally flightless (so no, that's not an awful attempt at perspective, it's meant to be wimpy and smaller), Spectty (who has his own ask blog, warning: it's a little... eccentric? [Link removed for language - ZennaBug]) earns his cutie mark while realizing that his talent is flying!

also, here's a 30 minute challenge fightin' Scootaloo in monochromatic colors

aaand here is a cover for a fanfiction I did which revolves around Moxie, but actually written by a good friend of mine, same friend I drew that Fluttershy up there for!
basically, the story is set in the desert of Saddle Arabia, Moxie is part of royalty and is set up for an arranged marriage. I won't post a link to the story since it is sort of a mature theme (both intense and adult situations) but have the cover instead! ;P

also S3 finale Rarity art, she's my favorite! (and this about sums up the detailed art with backgrounds I have ever completed..

...but my art is probably 50/50 serious stuff and silly stuff. goofy stuff is my favorite. I won't even explain any of these.

I have a lot more pony art but those are my favorites for now! you can visit my deviantART page here, but I don't post much pony art these days so don't expect too much.

I really want to take a stab at some G1 style inspired pony art now.. suggestions are very welcomed! :)

Introductions / hello! G4 fan converted to G1 collector!
« on: March 25, 2014, 11:38:06 PM »
Hi! My name is Moxie, I am a connoisseur of dogs (dog show handler - taking a long hiatus and possibly 'retiring'), art, ponies and sloths
I fell in love with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the beginning of 2011 or so. It wasn't until very recently that I found a love for the G1 ponies as well.
I am an artist, even though I hate referring to myself as such because I feel stuck up lumping myself under the same label as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and even modern folks like Craig McCracken ;P
Moxie is mostly an internet monicker and also the name of my OC who is a gimpy winged pegasus!

I am still learning but I would really like to get into restoration (but NOT customisation), it seems like a neat craft to get into.

Please excuse any questions that might come off as super obvious or stupid - this newfound love of G1 ponies came about just this year and it's not even April yet!

So hello, here's my required welcome post!

and lastly here is my very small but growing collection (not pictured is a Glory in the process of some minor beginner stuff restoration), a BEAUTIFUL pretty much flawless Cotton Candy and a Posey also in pretty good condition!
(and just a thought, but having moved to Arizona recently, I wonder if sunfading in summer speeds up the process or would be considered pony abuse? ;P)
