I really liked it, I wouldn't call it romance tho! It's too dark and weird, more like Brazil than something like When Harry Met Sally.

Hi Sora!

There is a big difference in quality from cheap printers to expensive ones.

The cheaper ones, like MakerBot, have a lower resolution and use materials that come out rough looking- like this:

Often the plastic is very brittle and easily breakable.

The industrial /professional 3D printers are expensive($15k-$40k) and electricity hogs for sure. But they make beautiful prints-some of them in full color.

The quality of plastic from the expensive machines often can be customized. Some of them can print really rubbery-like.

I would suggest you either play around with a custom printing service like Shapeways, or find a collective shop. Here in the United States we have something called TechShop, where you sign up as a member and take classes to use machines like 3D printers, Laser Cutters, and more!

3D printing is pretty expensive and lossy. I mean- its easy to mess up your print. And unless you have a very big expensive machine, it's very slow.

It's definitely not a true manufacturing process yet. It's really only for prototyping or for creating something to cast off of.

Give it time- when it's perfected, then Hasbro can worry. :D

Err, also to the OP - a top of the line 3D printer actually costs closer to $40,000. We have some at work and they're still fussy and unreliable  . . . .

Agree with  DoctorMowinckel ! Get your lady a DSLR. Might be scary at first, but it's worth it.

Keep in mind the brand will be somewhat important- most brands have a proprietary lens system. (example: Canon: EF. Nikon: Nikkor, Panasonic: Micro 4/3rds)

That's ok- it's just going to matter down the line as you buy lenses. There are lens adapters for the different systems that allow you to switch them up, but they can be expensive and complicated.

Find one that fits within your price range.
Keep in mind the lens he suggested(the 50mm) is a "prime" lens- so it does not zoom.
Typically the camera will come with one- called a "kit" lens and will be called something like `18-50mm' to indicate it can change length.

If the camera does not come with a lens, it might say something like 'body only'.

Um, I want to add I'm not trying to badmouth primes. At all!!
I love them. :]
But you specifically mentioned zooming so I wanted to say that.

Lego is on the forefront of this, because their product is all 1 plastic, and can easily be 3D modeled.
As 3D printers pricedrop, Lego is going to have to deal with people replicating the bricks at home.

That's still pretty far in the future. Color 3D printing, and at high resolution, is still very expensive.

Your lego bricks wouldn't fit together right if it had the jaggy edges of typical printed objects. :]

But I sure can't wait to have my very own 3D printer! :D
