I’m definitely of the mindset that I’d like to alter as little as possible when the situation allows, so I do agree with Taffeta as far as best practices is concerned. Whenever I do buy one that doesn’t need much work, I think wipes and at most some acetone on tough spots would suffice nicely. The ponies I usually end up purchasing require deep cleaning, we’re talkin’ pin mold/dirt, grime, odor, yellowing and overall things that require a decent soak or the very least hot water to soften the vinyl enough for a good scrub.

I do what I can to avoid dismantling them, though most of the ponies I rescue are quite dirty, rattle, or need hair repair. Whenever I’ve tried to wash them without dismantling, usually water ends up inside the pony anyways. I always want to be sure everything is dry/rinsed out, thus I would typically end up needing to remove the head. All of these are strictly part of my personal collection and I’ve no intention to resell them, so I don’t think much in regards to resell value ^^;;

I’m leaning towards a swap up at some point while she was owned by someone else. It was just done so neatly that I was sincerely unsure as to if it was done originally or somewhere else down the line, which is why I asked for additional input from the community. I’m quite new to the hobby, so I’m still learning things each time I restore. I appreciate the responses and discussion either way  :blush:

I purchased a Baby Moondancer from a seller on eBay. By accident, they sent me this Baby Glory instead (I’ll be getting the Moondancer to restore later this week). :heart:

I was very confused as to why her tail was pink; I think she may be a factory error! Never seen one like this before, what do you guys think? I have a theory she may have been given Moondancer’s tail instead, ironically enough. I opened her up to make sure she wasn’t tampered with previously and she hadn’t been, so I’m pretty convinced it’s a true error unless the purple tails can somehow fade to pink. She also had an extra metal clamp inside, adding to how odd this all was. Curious to hear your thoughts!  :what:

Hi there, I'm Bunnie! I'm 31 and a longtime collector of plush, figures and other childhood toys. I've recently started a collection of G1 ponies with the emphasis on finding badly damaged/dirty ponies in need of love and restoration. There's just something very satisfying and comforting bringing them back to life! :heart:

I'm hoping to learn many more techniques and share my own experiences so far in regards to restoration. The community at large has been tremendously helpful when finding out exactly what to do in each scenario. I really enjoy seeing everyone's work and how they've restored their collection. I can't wait to share my before and after photos with all of you and I look forward to seeing what everyone here has done with their collection! :heart:
