I have lots of snakes, but only a few pictures.

Sassy, my very first snake. She was sold to me as 'male nelson' and was later identified as 'female sinaloan'. :P

I also have lots of corn snakes. If there are any real experts out there, in this picture I have a 'normal marked anery' a 'aztec marked normal' and ... an orange one. People keep trying to tell me that orange one is a 'normal' but it is too orange! Any thoughts?

And this fellow was abandoned at the pound, I took this pic to try and ID him (to make sure he wasn't dangerous before they adopted him out.)  He's a 'brown aussie childrens python'. Safe.

I was able to sell my loose, working furbies for $20-30 each. It varies with color and alot with condition. MIB ones go for around $20-50. Again, it depends on which furby, if it is MIB or NRFB, and condition. Some go for alot more. Some go for less.

That is pretty cool!  There was something recently in the news here, in a nearby city. A woman has a mini-pig as a support animal, because her daughter is allergic to everything else. She has it registered, but the city still wants her to get rid of it, because it is 'livestock'. So there is a big fight going on over it, of course.

In another case, there is a fellow who has a ball python as a fully legal, registered, etc service animal for detecting seizures. He can take it where-ever he pleases. I believe it is a first, since it is a reptile. It isn't trained, he got it as a pet, and found out that it detects seizures, spot-on.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. I think there are alot more types of animals than just dogs that can provide service. And sometimes that service can be as simple as just a gentle presence.

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Canada Post Shipping
« on: April 23, 2013, 06:17:30 PM »
Definitely get a postal scale. I got mine from Staples. Your basic limits for parcels to the USA are up to 249 grams, up to 499 grams, and up to 999 grams. You can check online at canadapost.ca to find out what it will cost to ship each parcel, you put in the weight, dimensions, and destination, and it tells you what the cost will be.  The cheapest method of shipping to USA is "Small Packet Airmail". However, this option does not include insurance or tracking. You can also send by "Small Tracked Parcel" which is the same thing, but costs about $8 more and includes delivery confirmation and insurance. That is, insurance against loss: fragile items are not covered by insurance.

For inexpensive items, I charge an extra $2 per parcel for insurance, and then cover them myself. For expensive items, anything over $40 or so (that is my comfort zone, that is how much I am willing to risk being out of pocket), then I ship those the more expensive way.

Shipping overseas gets trickier, it is more expensive, and you have to be careful shipping ponies to some countries.

I always label my customs forms with 'collectible figurine' rather than 'toy'. I don't put 'my little pony' on the customs forms, to avoid theft.

Oh lordy. How about, a new hatched turkey that I allowed to imprint on a week old chicken. The turkey grew up to be about 20 pounds ... and would 'brood' by crawling under the young hen. So I would look outside to see a turkey sitting on the ground, with a chicken on its back.

My degu yells at me every time she hears my voice. She wants a raisin. That is the only thing that will shut her up. None of the others do this.

A two-legged hamster. (She lost both front legs in a fight with another hamster). I paired her up with a gentle-tempered hamster who was twice her size. She bossed him around, and would smack him in the face with her stumpy legs.

A tortoise who plays fetch. Very slowly. You roll the ball, he rolls it back.

Another tortoise who is obsessed with painted toenails. They look like strawberries.

Ah yes, I saw those this past weekend. I never considered using them on a custom, though.

I got the bear second-hand.

I don't have a picture at the moment. But if you go to ebay and search for "  22" Care Bear Funshine" and an auctin comes up for $35.09, the bear I have looks exactly the same but is birthday and not funshine.

Ok. Because.... I have one. I picked it up second hand. It is dated 2003 on the tag, looks somewhat vintage style but with the changes when they were re-released. It is exactly 22" tall, when standing (23" if you count the tuft of fur on top). That's inches, not centimeters.

I tried finding a care bear forum or message board, but had little to no success.  :(

I'm in Canada, if that might make a difference. Maybe it was just never sold in the USA?

There is a vintage care bears book called "The Care Bears And The Witch Down The Street". I don't know of any care cousins books like that, though.

I have been trying to find a bit of information about this, but not having much luck.

Does there exist a 22" Care Bear Plush, from 2003 (or thereabouts, the newer releases anyway)... of Birthday Bear?

Hey fellow piggie lovers!  (I have a current herd of 24:1). Bit of a tip for you: I read this awhile ago, but can't find my way back to the source. But it seems true from what I have observed:

Guinea Pigs need to work their jaws in order to swallow properly. That is why your piggies want to chew their water bowl and bottle nozzle while drinking. Mine all do the same thing to bottles, and it takes them a loooong time to get the proper hang of a water dish (well, in our case, trough). The babies just chew the edge and get their noses wet, and the adults ... sort of shove their faces in it and chew/swallow.
