Neat Saint Patrick's Day update this morning- but be careful of the Flim and Flam's game new ad if you get it-  says pop balloons for 10 gems for one week, but it's not 10 gems-  it's still taking off 25.

(and OMG  £900 ...  parental controls or not, there ought not be such an easy way to buy gems by pushing a couple buttons.)

Those don't look like the rereleases to me. Those really do look quite a bit different from the originals. It can be hard to see the differences in pics though when you can't compare them side by side. However, there is a way to rule out the rereleases for sure. Check the hooves. The rereleases say "2007" on their feet. Since the OP said they all say "1983", these aren't the rereleases.

Good to know that the date stamp is different and thanks for the info!  I haven't found any of these second hand yet, but that'll sure be a help in the coming 'sale-ing' season.  I do know about the difficulty in mixing materials, and strange things do happen. Although none of my ponies have ever gotten harder from ageing, (just super sticky and occasionally the reground materials show)--  my unopened Sweetberry pony Cherry Treats has been leeching/ forming/developing brown goo inside the bubble on her card and on her body for several years now.   >_<

Being that she's an original, then that really is one killer of a white Starshine and grats on finding her!

As for being glad they're not from China for quality-sake...  very true, but at the moment I think  I'm more glad they're not from North Korea.   ;)

I agree with everyone-  it would be really fun to have more of the older G1 characters rereleased in the G4 moulds, or even reproduced in the old moulds.  In Hasbro's mind, it may not be just a matter of reaffirming names though.  Here are a few thoughts that might also be having impacts:

Companies pay a lot for shelf space.
The Transformers fan base has been really large (and much louder) for a much longer time than the ponies, and not just in the US.  There were huge conventions for them long before ponies - like Botcon back in the early and mid 90's.  The reissues as well as the Universe toys for TF popped up after some of the newer lines began to become a bit less desireable with the fans (latter part of Beast Machines and onwards, though Armada had a good run).  The Bay movies were a disaster with most of the older G1 fans, but the Universe line was amazing-  it stepped in and bridged the gap, giving back older characters with recognizeable features.  Some (like Ironhide) it made to look even better than the original figure.  But- keep the shelf space in mind- the movie happened, and then the toon series.  It's a lot of product to display, but Hasbro knew they had the older fan base as well as the new movie fans and the kids to support it.

Pony-wise, G2 didn't go over well, sadly.  G3 had a fantastic run until we had too many of the same characters saturating the line, and then G 3.5 happened. G4 is a whopper of a hit, the fan base is huge- but it's not like Transformers.  I hope you'll allow a big generalization here- but there is a huge split between G4 fans and G1 fans, and it's not a pleasant one.  The newer fan base is massive, but it's only a bit over a couple years old.  Can Hasbro bridge the collector gap?  Sure they could- and of course there is a ready buyer's market for our old pony friends (as Applejack and Minty show), but at what cost?  Lots and lots of complaints. G4 sells, but originals that are in G4 bodies?  Lots of G1 collectors don't like G4, and vica versa.  Hasbro may be figuring it's just safer and more economical to focus on new characters and new product- and the artists working for them may be happier creating their own characters too, rather than reproducing the older ones.

Still... it'd sure be nice to have a Pony retro-line.  I'd love an official 'Masterpiece' G4 Magic Star, Gusty or Galaxy!  If the collectors as a whole keep asking, and keep showing that they'd support it, Hasbro has listened in the past.  After all, we got 25th releases and boy ponies again!!  G4 is still the new kid on the block in toy line terms- perhaps in time Hasbro will hear us.  After all, it'd only really need a couple more peg hangers.

Here's another possibility-

The Rainbow ponies (and the original Earth ponies) were reissued a while back.  Mine are still in the box, so I'm not sure about all the differences besides brighter colors, but I recall some of the members opening them when they were released and commenting on how much harder the plastic was.  Maybe someone with open ones would be able to say more.

So many neat stories!  I'll share mine, but be warned, it's a bit of a rollercoaster.  Back to the 70's--- I was a very active little kid.

Ballet, gymnastics, horseback riding lessons, swimming, Brownies, helping dad with the boat and at the die casting plant, fishing, softball, sailboating, rollerskating-  it was a fun time! (The horseback lessons were the best though, and a highlight every Saturday!)

And then '80 and '81 rolled around and life changed dramatically.  The die casting plant where my father worked had several murders happen- one of the owner's two sons was killing off the rest of the family.  He was caught (and eventually put down by lethal injection), but the plant was shut down while the remaining brother recovered from arsenic poisoning in the hospital.  During that time, there was no employment and our family had no insurance and no income.  A dangerously high fever and strep throat hit me, wiped out my immune system, and arthritis set into my joints.  At 8 years old I was paralyzed temporarily for two weeks in the hospital, and the bills nearly bankrupted our family.  My little body couldn't manage activities for a long time, nor could we afford the paid ones.  (Don't worry, there's a happy finish!)

Bet you can guess what the one bright shining happiness was!  Around Christmastime that year, they showed up... there on the shelf in the only grocery store in town- smiling faces, pretty colors and enticing shiny hair. Best yet- they were not incredibly expensive.  At $3.25, they were just manageable for my mother to buy for me.  One every two or three weeks- as long as the schoolwork reports came back with good feedback.  Ponies weren't horseback lessons, but they were almost just as much fun.  When you can't afford much, you tend to really treasure the things you do get, and I took very good care of the ponies I received.  The following year the remaining son was well enough to reopen the plant and my father returned as manager, where he still works at age 82.  As for my original ponies, they're all still here too, with new ones joining all the time.   Had 300 by high school, over 900 by university, and it's well beyond counting now.  (And now we have 2 live ones out back as well!)^.^

Pony Corral / Re: Twinkles... the cat with no face?

  Looks like a 1 to me too, with very shiny plastic like the ones I've gotten from England and the main body of Europe.  Casting moulds are each produced with a number, so that if a flaw happens in a product, they can tell which mould is responsible- but not all countries used them that way in the 80's and into the 90's.  Mostly it was Western countries that did- so this could be US, Canada or England/ Europe then, but most likely England or Canada judging from the shiny plastic in the picture.  :)  Still very cool- and definitely a neat addition to a collection.  One last question- does it feel hollow or solid?

Here are some of mine so you can see why I was asking-

See the Twinkles to the very far left -  that one came from Canada with very shiny 'harder' plastic.  She's more hollow than the two US ones on far right which are a softer and heavier rubber plastic.  And that's the Brandy with no face markings next to the US Twinkles.

By any chance, is there a mould number underneath your Twinkles?
I have a Brandy that came from Greece that has no markings, nor a mould casting number.  The plastic also feels hollow, not like our solid ones here from the states.  I have 6 different Twinkles from many countries, but none that match the Brandy, so it's a strong possibility that your Twinkles originated from the same place.

Lucky find in your lot!  If you want to sell her, keep me in mind.  :)

Grrr, now not all my friends show :(

I have a question on treasure chests - if someone leaves me one, should I see it  when I log into my game? I've received a few, but I don't recall actually seeing them in my  town and I think they registered when I was going round clicking on ponies, but I can't  be sure. Still need two chests to complete  this one quest I have going at the moment before I can move on!

Chests seem to register when you first log into the game.  When you're actually playing and someone drops a chest while you're active, usually for me the game restarts itself immediately.  If you're in doubt as to whether you've gotten a chest or not, you can close the application, or restart your phone to give the game a chance to reload.

Anyone having problems with Gameloft? I reinstalled the game a few days ago, but none of my Gameloft friends will show up in my friends list, even though if I log into my account they're there! Annoying.

(I'm BeatrixPlotter, by the way!)
If the friends list isn't showing, there are lots of causes for that.  Here are some possibilities for things you can try:

1)  While viewing your pony town, tap on the right scroll (the one with the store) and slide all the way down to settings.  Click on the networks option- and then make certain that the ring around Gameloft is green, not red.

2) Restart your phone and the application should restart too.  Then go to Gameloft in the scroll on the right, connect to it and then choose back to game.  Go to your social button in the right scroll and let it search for friends.  You may need to press the reload (dual arrows) button a couple times.

3)  Sometimes friends who play on different phones/ systems cannot register on your phone because they're incompatible.  For example, I have 62 in my gameloft list, but only 42 register - probably because the others play on different systems and not iphone.  Add lots of friends and that'll increase your chances of comaptibility.

4)  Sometimes Gameloft putters out.  Really.  There have been days when no matter how many times I try to connect to friends, Gameloft is servicing systems or updating or whatever- and while the game is playable, no friends list will pop up.  Best option is try later in the day.

That's not to say those are the only answers, just some options.  As for the purchase, possibly-  try reconnecting your phone/ device back to the computer and itunes?  I had a problem ages ago where an ad wouldn't load (LPS or such) and reconnecting it and restarting it seemed to help fix the trouble.  I hope that helps!

Seems I'm having the same trouble as everyone else.  Have 23 friends in Gameloft, but only 16 show up in the pony app.  Restarting the phone, relogging GL, resetting-  does very little to help.  I've been able to send hearts every day, but to do chests on my iphone, I've found it needs to be directly connected to the computer.
Go to the right hand scroll in the app, connect to Gameloft, then choose to go back to game.  If it connects at that time, you can access other friends' ponylands.  If it lags out during re-connecting, I've found the social function and friends list won't work on mine.  I've been able to send chests this way, but it's extremely fiddley- and I've only found one chest so far so guessing that others are having the same difficulties.

Pony Corral / Re: Dream Beauties
« on: January 26, 2013, 09:23:47 AM »
They're the "grown-up" versions of ponies, so I consider them to be no different than the ponies themselves.  Modern day G4's version would be Celestia - slightly different, but still very much pony.  Bigger, different, still equine, still pony.  I also consider Petite ponies to be ponies too.
I didn't like Dream Beauties much when they first came out- I thought they looked too much like Breyer horses or Fantasy Fillies.  Glitter and sparkles eventually changed my mind though.  Here's my set:visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Prince Firefly!

Give me a boat, fair wind and sweet breeze,
I'd love to be a captain, upon the high blue seas.
Salty and Barnacle are my brothers, loyal brave, true blue...
I'm blue too with freckles! ...but I've got some growing up to do.

It was very common for the mould castings to be in alternating colors, and that's still a typical practice for today's pony accessories.  It wastes less plastic material when multiple colors are needed for production... and tossing a whole sprue reel in means less time involved for plant employees and more fun for kids who like putting things together.   ;)

The different colors in the nursery bits are likely just chance rather than fixed with a particular run release of the set.  The nursery was available in several forms.  For example, the one I bought from the store shelves had BBE baby Tiddley in it, and came with blues for the bowl, mirror and bathtub.  I bought a second nursery from another collector which had NBBE Baby Tiddley, and had the reverse colors on the accessories- pinks rather than blues, but her own set had the blue bowl and such.  It's nice you are fortunate to have complete sets of both.  :)

Shelti, have you seen these yet?
I found them at Jewel/ Osco here in Illinois yesterday.  Haven't seen any signs of the glittery ones locally yet this year though.

Hmm, this sounds just like the G2 translucent Hip Holly problems. She did not have glitter but she inevitably would end up sticky or tacky over time as the plasticizer broke down. The only other translucent G2 that comes to mind immediately is Queen Sunsparkle, but I've never heard specifically of any problems with her. (She's glitter-filled like the G3s.) Can any G2 collectors weigh in?
My Queen Sunsparkle came super sticky straight from the box when they had just been released.  I've washed her about 7 times, but there's been very little luck removing the plasticizer.  It was a really common problem with both her and Hip Holly, as well as some of the G2 pony accessories.  I also have a translucent tiara that came on a German Ivy that has almost dissolved to a little sticky pile of goo now.  The talc idea that was suggested earlier sounds like a brilliant idea- I'll try that tomorrow.

My GL id is Lilsugarberry if anyone is in need of another friend to exchange chests with.   :)
