Off Topic / Re: The Trivial Complaints Thread ... #3
« on: April 30, 2023, 03:00:22 AM »
I felt like I was babysitting baby birds this week.

Earlier today I noticed there was a scruffy little black bird on my patio that was just kind of chilling. It disint fly away when I went out, so I was worried it was sick. I brought it out some winter and seeds, but then what Im assuming was Mama bird flew down and fed it. At that point they scurried off somewhere. I have no idea how they got out since it seemed like the scruffy one could fly, I was just relieved it wasn’t hurt or sick.

Then, about an hour later, Amazon delivered some packages to my door. I heard the door on their van slam and that they drove away, but it REALLY sounded like someone was still at my door playing with it. I decided to peek out the window, but I didn’t see anyone, so I just opened the front door to grab my stuff. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN THERES A SCEUFFY LITTLE BIRD THATS FLAILING RIGHT BETWWEN MY DOOR AND THE SCREEN. I freaked out and closed the door back up and went around to release it from the front. I have zero idea if that was the same baby bird as before or how on earth Amazon managed to trap it, but I’m glad I didn’t just ignore the noise!

Then this past week there has been a dove that keeps suicide bombing my glass doors on the patio. Like multiple times a day, multiple times this week. I finally looked it up online and I think it might be trying to fight its reflection since it doesn’t seem to be getting hurt, but omg it’s concerning every time it slams the glass!

I have to go into the office next week. I hope the birds can behave when I’m not there to monitor them!

I don’t think I would have even known to look for the hoof stamps if it weren’t for this thread! I’m kind of glad mine have them, but it’s neat some of you have the “rare” variants as Basic Fun is putting it. ;)

Taffeta: here is the tag on mine, I just took a pic since it appears to have contact info for both Basic Fun and K’nex on either side

Carrehz, here they are in the claw machine! I think it’s about time to rearrange everyone. I can see that my non mlp plushies I’ve been throwing in are now more prominent than the real ones! :P

I’m late to the party, but congrats to all the winners of the drawing!

Also thank you for all of your kind words on my custom!

Sunpony, it’s too bad you didn’t have time to make yours! It would have been awesome to have an orange pony in the mix, and her design is fantastic!

Thanks for sharing the email Carrehz! The fact that no US distributors have picked up the 40th stuff makes me sad. :( I guess it is still early, but I hope someone picks them up soon! I’m glad I ordered from Amazon while the prices were low just in case they don’t come over this way.

I actually got my plushies in today! And regarding the hoof stamp….mine have it! It must be the ones that are stamped are now officially being distributed. they still came in the baggies rather than the box, but they’re going in my claw machine anyway, somI don’t care so much about that!

All in all I am really happy with these! They are really well made and dense like the original G1 plushies. Plus they are so soft! I’ll be sure to leave them a good review in hopes it makes the average rating on these a little kinder.

Holy cow! The entries so far are so incredible! It’s fun to see what some of us had similar ideas on and where we really differed!

Ponybookworm, wow! You got two customs done, I am impressed! They both look fabulous, I love the G3 style glitter on their faces! It is a great touch. The crochet animal friend is absolutely darling too!

HoM, Mustikka is absolutely precious! The use of beads as the blueberries is brilliant, they work perfectly with your pony! Her little friend is darling too!

Starscout, I love the concept behind Moonmelon! I remember that post going around Tumblr. I forgot all about it but straight up Moonmelons totally sound like they should be a food that exists in the pony universe  Your custom is so glittery and fun, I love her!

Griffin, Mango Bubble and Boba both look incredible! Your symbols are so crisp and detailed, they are stunning! The sculpt work on Boba is absolutely fantastic as well!

Pokeyonekenobie, Plum wild looks fantastic! Her lil freckles are so cute, and the rearing pose is perfect for her! Crafting her animal friend out of beads was also a brilliant way to use a coup,e of the prompts in one!

YAY! I am SO excited to see what everyone came up with! I have seriously been dying to see how everyone interpreted the prompt.

Here is my custom, Sushi Sparkle!
(I am not good at naming LOL)

More detail shots under the break:

I got done with her a while ago…..I took some time off work and used a fair bit of that time to just sit down and finish her off since I knew I wouldn’t have much time later on!

I really struggled to incorporate Orange into the body color at first. I knew we were able to use it in the cutie mark, but at first I could think of many foods with orange in them! I also for sure wanted to use it in the cutie mark because it felt easiest for me to use blue/purple to do the dark points on her body. Then I realized Sushi can look kind of orange! So that was the theme I ran with. I also gave her glittery orange and red eyeshadow to further draw that orange in. :) Her cutie mark has painted sparkle symbols, but also a layer of glitter varnish as well.

Her animal friend there is meant to be a Snow Fox. What does a fox have to do with Sushi? Well, the name brand of the Sushi I buy at the grocery store is actually Snow Fox, so voila! :P I thought of making a fish, but that seemed too morbid haha, so she has a little fish charm on her necklace instead!

I went with 3 simple blocks of color in her hair to show off the colors required for the challenge. I went with a shade of pink for the red, white, and then a deep purple for her hair. Then, to ensure she had plenty of sparkle I gave her some tinsel in her hair too!

It was definitely a challenge to hit on all the required points of the challenge, but overall I’m very happy with how my custom turned out! Coming up with general ideas is usually the hardest part of making customs for me, so a challenge like this was an awesome way to get my creative gears going!

Since old art was given the green light, here is a pic I drew of Springy about a year back! :) Hope that is okay to try and keep this thread alive!

I really need to start drawing again! I don’t have my pencil with me right now, but for the next prompt I will try and draw something new!

Up next, how about a pony doing their favorite activity?

The price of Moondancer dropped down into the $30s and with the most recent paycheck I gave in and ordered her. lol I can't wait!

Thanks for the heads up the price dropped again on these! I’ve been lurking waiting to get these. I was going to wait until they came to the states, but with all the negative reviews due to the lack of box I’m getting worried they may not get a wider release. :( Like others in the thread have Sid, it’s a bummer they don’t have the cute box, but that should knock off like one star at most imo if the plush quality is still good. It seems like Basic Fun is having enough trouble getting the ponies picked up by retailers, we don’t need overly negative reviews driving them even further away.

I ordered Moondancer and Glory. :) They were about $30 and $25, and then Imgot one free with my Amazon points so it seemed like a good time to buy! At least they had free shipping from Amazon….

I’d be interested! I usually try and stay inside during the summer as much as I can, so I should have some free time!

I’m so excited to see what you all came up with!! Idk if I already said it, but mine is ready to go. I finished a while ago when I had some time off work. I’m glad it did it then, I really haven’t had time lately!

Lots of great advice here already! I’m mostly going to just echo what everyone else has stated since I’m fairly new to customizing myself!

Regular ponies will survive the oven just fine, but I’m going to second the recommendation for apoxie sculpt over oven bake clay. I seriously wish I had tried apoxie earlier, I personally find it so much easier to use! It adheres to the pony much easier.

I think sculpted hair vs a re-hair and the level of difficulty will depend on your comfort level with sculpting. I’ve tried sculpted hair myself but I am never happy with how it looks. It is definitely trickier than it looks! A full re-hair can be daunting at first, but it’s really not so bad if you use the tool. :) Though idk about G4 ponies, I’ve only ever customized G3 and G1 ponies thus far.

Lastly, if you don’t already have detailing brushes, buy some. They are SO worth it. That is another thing I bought recently and I’m like, why have I been struggling with normal brushes until now??

Off Topic / Re: Candles
« on: March 27, 2023, 09:24:14 PM »
Oh, I’m 100% a candle addict haha! My favorite scents to be fall scents, so I stock up a bunch that time of year and try to make them last year round. Usually around May/ June I start running low though. There are unfortunately only so many candles I can store at once.

Bath and Body works is usually my go to for candles, though I refuse to buy them at full price since they are so expensive! I usually try and wait until they are having a buy 3 get 3 free sale and when I have a 20% off coupon to stock up. I like Yankee candles as well, but same thing, they are so pricey with no coupons or sales!

I’ve also become a big fan of jewelry candles like Fragrant Jewels and Jackpot Candles. Once again they are a little expensive…but each candle comes with a ring inside so they are fun to burn for that! The rings are pretty too. They aren’t very good quality, they do tarnish after a while, but for like $30 it’s a fun splurge here and there!

My favorite cheap candles are Tuscany candles from Kroger or whatever it may be called by you. :P They are large glass jars like Yankee and they have a pretty strong scent. They also burn for an insanely long time, so I love them for that!

Off Topic / Re: Have you attended any concerts?
« on: March 15, 2023, 05:54:40 PM »
Oh man, I’m not sure I can even remember all the shows I’ve been to! I LOVE concerts and since I’m usually going to see smaller, lesser known bands the tickets are very cheap. There are still a few smaller venues here that don’t use Ticketmaster and I love them for it! Last year alone I went to about 20 concerts!

These are some of my favorite bands I’ve seen multiple times and some bigger shows where you all might actually know the act. :P

AJJ (10x I think?)
*this band is local so I get to see them allllll the time for super cheap, sometimes for free!
Jeff Rosenstock (7x)
Godspeed you! Black emperor (4x)
Grandson (4x)
The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid To Die (4x, about to be 5 in April)
NIN (3x? Maybe 4?)
Joywave (2x)
Alt-J (2x)
Of Montreal (3x)
KISS (4x)
Black Sabbath (1x)
Iron Maiden (1x)

The World is a Beautiful Place is actually playing this year on my birthday in my city!! Me and my friend will be going, so I’m super excited for that!

I found a dead roach in my house today. I’m thankful it was dead, but it’s still disturbing. It’s been a few years since I’ve actually seen a roach inside, so I’m worried there’s some new access point I need to track down. :(
