Pony Corral / Re: Moving. Need Help Packing Ponies and Customs D:
« on: June 27, 2018, 11:22:31 AM »
I hope this doesn't count as hijacking the thread, but I was curious if anyone could point me in the direction of somewhere online that I can purchase acid free tissue paper for storing ponies? I've seen it mentioned a lot and as I understand it is not the same thing as the plain white tissue paper used for giftwrapping.

It is often used for storing wedding dresses and other delicate fabrics so search online in those sections if it is not available in stationery (though our local greetings-card shop stocks it, and that's in a small town) Get white tissue paper.

I have put Earth ponies because my very favourites are the Boy ponies and they don't have a section :)

but a very difficult decision because I have favourites in many species

OK - this one will be unpopular, sorry in advance!

G1  Rapunzel -

for sure a much-loved, much coveted (and rare/expensive) pony...

but I just don't admire her yellow/pink colour combo all that much  :bolt:

You are not alone, can't say I like her that much either  (good thing too, I have far too many expensive ponies on my wish list as it is)

Pony Corral / Re: Rehairing for personal collection
« on: June 23, 2018, 01:06:59 AM »
There will be many different views on this, it's what you are comfortable with doing.

Personally, I re-root or do alternative rehairs on ponies for my personal collection if their hair is in a bad way. I repair my ponies and touch-up symbols and eyes too if a pony has damage.Sometimes a new hair-do without reroot can give a pony a whole new look - I've conditioned and curled a couple with thinning, but still shiny, hair, it can look great on the right pony (one was a Twister who is in the same pose as Powder, she looks great with shortish, very curly hair)  I have very few mint ponies (and can't afford them) so mine usually need some tlc, though often it's their flaws that give them character and a unique beauty of their own so I leave them be.

I am less comfortable with extensive customisation unless the pony is true bait.
My ponies are not for sale, just for my own personal enjoyment,. If they did need to be sold I feel that rehairing is not so permanent as full customisation - if someone had donor hair then an alt-rehair could be restored to the 'original' pony.

Mine has lost her symbols. I like her like that - she is a very pretty, gentle looking pony.

Pony Corral / Re: Baby Applejack with yellow apples?
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:04:49 AM »
Not Applejack, but Wigwam who is another orange pony:

I have three, they all look very different but I'm pretty sure that two are faded. They have faded very uniformly over their bodies, and the hair and eyes have remained white and blue. The red symbols have faded to almost nothing particularly on the lightest of the three. I've had the heads off all three and the neck plugs on the light ones are darker orange than the outside of the body.
I love them as they look like a set of brothers, similar but different enough to be individuals, but they are all regular Wigwams as far as I know.

Pony Corral / Re: Why Do YOU Collect My Little Ponies?
« on: June 18, 2018, 11:44:46 AM »

Also, computer games. Gaming is acceptable. Also men collecting toys is often more acceptable. There are a lot of disparities.

If it's socially acceptable to collect He-Man and TMNT toys as an adult, it should be just as acceptable to collect MLP as an adult.

THIS.
I have been hitting a wall with my friend recently over this issue, I think they are embarrassed about me but they wont admit it, I cant wear cute clothes or collect girly toys but they can collect model trains and planes. It annoys me to no end

I find this so sad, though it says more about them and their insecurities than you.
Don't get too disconsolate, just do what makes you happy - your real friends will accept it as it is part of you, and we all come as a 'package'.

He looks great - how did you get him so clean?
The hair is fabulous and also the repainted symbols.

Thanks for the tip on the needles - I'm always breaking them and always buy in plenty of spares but you and your Dad have inspired me to have a go and experiment making my own.

Now I have a fair amount of pink ponies in my collection; so I am happy to think about how their values have all just shot up. Pity about those other colours that have just decreased in value, but then one can't have everything in life.

That's OK by me - I like blue and yellow ponies (wicked grin)

I hope noone gets scammed by this - however it does demonstrate the importance of research, the principle of 'caveat emptor' and to hold out on buying above market value.
Annoying as it is to sift through reams of overpriced ponies on an ebay search the market will soon rebalance itself if prices are too high.

Pony Corral / Re: Who is the rarest pony you have come across?
« on: June 13, 2018, 02:13:29 AM »
A very pretty 'Peachy' who was an 'extra' in a lot I bought for some other ponies in it. She is actually Macau Nelly!

I guess rarity depends upon where you are in the world too, some of my other ponies are sought-after UK releases.

Pony Corral / Re: stupid things sellers do (tell me)
« on: June 01, 2018, 01:19:18 AM »
I just won a great deal on ebay-

But the seller cancelled the listing because he didn't get enough for it- what a jerk!  I posted a thread about it on one of my dolly forums, and it turns out he is famous for doing exactly that.   -_-

He also is known for scamming people so I guess I got lucky.

i had a similar experience with a seller cancelling and refunding an agreed sale (don't think it was with the same seller).
I sort of joked at the time that maybe Fate had something special around the corner.

Anyways, Karma was actually looking after me, for a month later I found the same ponies in a lot for the same price with a different seller. And not only were the ponies I was originally searching for really lovely,  they came in a lot with a couple of extra ponies including the prettiest 'Peachy' I've ever seen.........didn't realise until I gave her a bath that she's actually Macau Nelly!
So, sometimes things are for the best if they don't quite work out.

We've got a few courtesy of Hubby -

Nice n spicey is Nigella (after a TV cook)
Posey is Ginger (I think after ginger rogers - who knows?)
His Rosedust is called Daffodil.

But the name that's really stuck and I can't think of the poor pony as anything else now - is a formerly beat-up Daddy Bright Bouquet who has had a rehair and a bandana to hide a scar on his neck  - he's now Daddy Mid-life Crisis
