Pony Corral / Re: Ponies you should like, but . . .
« on: May 01, 2016, 01:26:17 AM »
Personally, for me it's TAF Buttons. I love unicorns. I love the Buttons pose. I REALLY love green ponies. But, while she's cute, her body is a 'pea soup' kind of green rather than a nice frosty/mint green or electric green, which personally sort of disappoints me.

Also, the first set of sea ponies. I not only love sea ponies, I am also a huge fan of this set's musical number 'Call Upon the Sea Ponies'. However, their colours are really forgettable, and they just don't leave a lasting impression on me.

Also, Steamer/Tracks from the Big Brother Ponies set. I like boy ponies (especially the Mountain Boys) but he just leaves me cold. Couldn't they have distinguished him from Slugger/First Base just a LITTLE more? You know, maybe make him a nice bright red or something, rather than that shade of pink? (Really, they should have had a wider colour palette for the first set of Big Brothers in general. I mean seriously, THREE blue ponies (and I LIKE blue ponies!), two pink ponies (both an eerily similar shade of pink) and only one yellow pony? Couldn't they have added a little orange, or red or purple into the set?)

Pony Corral / Re: Recommended Episodes for a first time G1 Viewer?

I'd definitely recommend 'Return of Tambelon' and RAMC. I'd also like to give special mention to 'The Magic Coins' here, as it is tuly a fantastic episode (as are 'Crunch the Rockdog' and 'The Golden Horseshoes' two I'd also like to mention).

'Mish Mash Melee' is a good one to start on though, due to its short length and strong characterizations.

Pony Corral / Re: Let's talk Sweetheart and Teddy
« on: April 27, 2016, 10:32:53 PM »
In the comics Sweetheart is more like a best friend to Teddy.  At one point he wants to give a Valentine to Bon Bon and Sweetheart thinks it's a great idea.  But in the show, yeah, Sweetheart and Teddy are pretty shippy.

Personally I think they're headed for a trainwreck of a relationship.
They probably are, unfortunately.

Either way, you are right LM, Sweetheart and Teddy are 'secret friends' in the comic (at least that's what the comics call it) and Teddy does seem to like Bon Bon- the story you're talking about is from MLP and Friends 44, right? If I remember rightly, I think it ends with Teddy and Bon Bon getting together...which is kind of implied in 'Bon Bon's Diary' (I see Sweetheart and Teddy in the show as a one-sided attraction. Sweetheart likes Teddy, but I wouldn't say the feeling is mutual (I see Teddy as thinking of her as his friend rather than his girlfriend, judging by how he interacts with her in the show). But yeah, the writers do seem to have loved shipping them either way,

sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but just curious the going rate for common issues?  I wanted to get a few just for me own reading and the art work but not looking to complete a collection by any means or acquire rare ones.
Hmmm...
The early issues (from 1 to about 60-70) are fairly common. You can usually find some around on eBay (there are some on there right now actually) and it's unlikely you will have to pay too much for it (MLP and Friends are a different story-I recently won issues 1-6 from that set and the first issue ALONE was 9.50 GBP, and it's probably the easiest to find issue of the set).
The later issues (of either set) are pretty elusive stuff and tracking down those last few numbers can be an annoying business - you may be forced to buy large lots with quite a few issues you already own (I've ended up with over 30 duplicates in this process - interestingly, many of these are later issues) and also because the issues featuring the Tales characters are also sought after by Tales fans in addition to G1 comic collectors.
Mimicsno1fan- WOW... how did you acquire so many in just a year? I've got about the same number of comics as you, but it's taken me three years of collecting to reach that point...I currently own...
MLP issues: 1-109, 115-116, 142-145, 149, 153-155, 157, 163-166, 168-176, 178-182, 184-187, 190-192, 194, 196, 198, 200-207, 209, 211-212, 215-221, 223
MLP and Friends issues: 1-6, 22, 30, 32, 37-46, 48, 51
Other: Spring Special 1986, Summer Special 1986, Winter Special 1986, Summer Special 1992, 1994 Poster Magazine (featuring the Rollerskate ponies)
P.S: What issues are you missing from the 200's? I have a few mint condition later issues (duplicates from large lots) up for sale - let me know if you're interested. :)

Thanks for the help guys :) Luckily quite a few of mine still have the free gifts attached but I have posters and stickers which are loose and i'm desperate to match them up. I also found a Wuzzle short comic in one of them which i don't want to sell until i know it didn't come with them.
You found a Wuzzle comic in one? I own all the early issues (which I know are the ones you own) and do not know of any Wuzzles short comic that came as a free gift with any of them. It could just have been placed in there by its original owner - I've seen it happen with some of my own G1 comics before and would not be surprised if that were the case.
I've been wondering about doing one myself for a while. My own G1 comic collection has been growing really rapidly in recent months (meaning I have access to a large number of issues) and I own a few rarities now, such as the first and last issues of both the MLP and MLP and Friends sets, as well as a Summer Special 1992, MLP and Friends comic 48 with its FREE GIFT still attached, and a Tales poster magazine featuring the Rollerskate ponies that no one seems to have seen before.

If only I owned a scanner *sigh*.

Yeah I had thought that but wanted to check to make sure. I should scan some of mine as I have about 200 of them now, I got an issue the other day which comes with Baby Katie's kitty friend attach! Not too sure if she is slightly bigger but was a shock to see her all the same :)
So it was you who snatched that copy of 222! Congratulations on that, it truly is a rarity finding such a rare issue with its free gift still attached.
What issues do you have now?

Just too adorable... Baby Shady is one of my favorite babies.
Why they didn't make one or sell her in the UK is baffling - she had a pretty awesome comic personality. :)

Pony Corral / Re: Things You Wonder About in the Shows/Books?
« on: April 16, 2016, 06:51:22 AM »
1) Who fathered all the baby ponies?

2) Why did Hasbro and the cartoons make all babies exact replicas of their mothers? Is this a result of an extraterrestrial cloning experiment?

3) How is it that the Crimson Cavern beyond the desert (The Magic Coins) and King Chalatan's frozen kingdom (Baby, It's Cold Outside) are both within walking distance?

4) Who is the mother of the newborn twins? What about Baby Half Note, Baby Tiddley-Winks, and Baby Cuddles? Ponyland has an awful lot of orphans.

In the comics, some of the babies came from a magic mirror.  In another comic, Lucky drew a picture of some babies and they magically came to life.

Really? Wow that's an even more bizarre explanation than any I'd have imagined, lol. Thanks for enlightening me on that.
The first set of baby ponies indeed came from a mirror. The babies Baby Lucky drew a picture of were the first set of Newborn Twins, explaining why none of them have an adult counterpart. Baby Half Note and the Baby Bonnet School of Dance were found by Locket on an island in a lake. Baby Cuddles was found by Spike and Baby Lucky.
As for Baby Tiddley-Winks, we are never told where she comes from. Come to think of it, nor are we told where the Beddy-Bye Eye babies come from (I know they weren't sold in the UK with their US gimmick or in their entirety, but Baby Lofty and Baby Shady are frequently in the comics none the less). I assume they too came from a mirror (Majesty says at the end of the first set's origin story that there will be 'other nights' perhaps some other ponies took advantage of this and created another set of babies?) we'll never know for sure.

Price Check Archives / Re: Pc on Locket and Ice crystal

Locket in bait condition sells for $6-10.
Ice Crystal in that condition is worth about $65-75, anywhere between those boundaries would be a reasonable price (Ice Crystal is very popular at the moment).
I hope this helps you.

Pony Brag Arena / More G1 comics! And a... Tales Poster Magazine?
« on: April 09, 2016, 12:48:35 PM »
Today I bought a (mint condition) lot of G1 comic later issues off eBay. The lot includes:
'My Little Pony' issues: 153,157,163,164 (with free gift attached),165,166,168,169,170 (with free gift attached),171,172,173,174,176,178,179,180,181,185,186,187,200,201,216,217,218,219,220,221.
'My Little Pony and Friends' issues: 41, 48 with free gift transfers
The lot also includes the Summer Specials 1986 and 1992, and a... Tales poster magazine from 1994? I recall it being mentioned in one of my later issues (I think it might have been advertised in MLP and Friends 44) but I have never seen it before or heard of anyone who has owned it. Can anyone provide information on this elusive rarity?

Hey, remember that time Bright Eyes almost let someone drown?  Good times, good times.
Ah yes, it was I who asked for that Prancer story to be scanned in! Not disappointed here!
And yeah, I own that comic with Melody and Patch in. I remember that the story had something to do with Melody betting Patch that she could run the ice cream shop (?) and Patch ends up botching it up.

Thanks you two!

Here's that page I was talking about:

Heh yeah, emblem is something different =D

Most of the other pages are a turn by turn for each girl, so they all had unique hair styles XD oh! And here was another image the auction had, and sadly Teddy was the only boy, Ace and Lancer didn't get one D=

Seriously love those sheets, Wildshadow, although I didn't see any difference in Bon Bon's stomach on the sheet!
I suspect that Teddy and Sweetheart would have more of a 'big brother little sister' relationship if Sweetheart were 6 years old. She'd probably also be more of a Tagalong Kid as well. Personally, I prefer Sweetheart being 9 though, her being younger just doesn't click to me.

Don't have any of the ponies (but got close to getting Bright Eyes, Patch and Bon Bon TWICE) but I do own the DVD set and more than half of the UK comics featuring the characters (should I mention that Teddy is often miscoloured as red in these? Or that Ace is usually miscoloured as green and sometimes has the wrong symbol? Or that Lancer is lilac sometimes?)
