Pony Brag Arena / Retro Toy Fair Rescues
« on: June 02, 2014, 03:10:04 PM »
This weekend I attended a Retro Toy Fair, and while most of the selection was focused on toys targeted to boys, there were a few places to get ponies! And even luckier, not all of them were overpriced!

I managed to grab two G3 ornaments that are super adorable!

But the big find of the day were the G1s! One of the sellers had a box of some of the most mangled looking ponies I've ever seen (cancer, marker, engrained dirt, hair cuts, bite marks, pen make-up... you name the damage, it was there!). I grabbed who I thought I could salvage, but even they were pretty gross.

Here's a group shot!

Poor Tabby is a finger painting victim!

Fortunately, with the help of a lot of soap, a magic eraser, and a long time in the sink, these ponies are feeling better!

Chilling out after the spa

They look so clean and shiny and bright now!

Princess Starburst is free of her unwanted facial make-up, and Sundance looks like she was just taken out of her package!

Racer cleaned up well save for this one splotch (and he doesn't like to talk about it)

Crunch Berry and Tabby were completely different colours after I scrubbed off all the grime off of them

And so were these two babies! (Topper is still suffering from "Had my head pulled off for internal cleaning-itis)

Poor Banana Surprise was the only one to remain pretty beat up. But hopefully a stay in the window will fix that! (Her marks are a lot more visible IRL) visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I've wanted High Flyer for ages, so this was an excellent find! And that fakie is just too cute!

All in all, an excellent crop of finds that cleaned up fairly nicely!

Doobled some art for Pinks.
Man I really wish this line wasn't discontinued it makes me supremely sad. I really like the song from their site too.

That is adorable! And I have come to appreciate this line so much now that it is cancelled :(

Off Topic / Re: Have you read the book the last Unicorn?

The book is amazing, the graphic novel is amazing, the movie is amazing! Basically everything Peter S Beagle writes is amazing! (And he wrote the script for the movie too!). I also strongly recommend Tamsin as well!

Also, for fans, there's a Last Unicorn screening tour going on until 2016! They are in Canada right now and I just went to the Vancouver event and got my books signed by Beagle :D I would highly recommend that people check the tour out! http://lastunicorntour.com/

If anyone has an extra Twilight and Luna, I'm still looking for them!

Wow!!! Your pony art is just AMAZING! I used to follow your Sonic pieces way back when I was in that fandom, and I'm super happy to see your work again!

I'm not really on my DA anymore for so many reasons. The only place I am right now is here on the arena. Ideally, I want to work on a childrens book, but I question how realistic that goal is. It's cool to know you knew my work back when, and makes me happy :) Thanks for the comment!

Kiss, I can totally see a graphic childrens book filled with your art! It would be so beautiful!

Seriously?

Wow. I've been wanting to do a childrens book all in rhyme for years.

Seriously :) Your style is gorgeous. You have the skills to do it. And I am totally going to want an autographed copy of that book when it comes out

I second that! I would have totally loved a book with your art as a kid (and I would still love it today!)

  Siiiigh. Didn't see any at Winners. Maybe they never got as far as here.

If anyone can grab the basic girls for me, I'd be really grateful!
Sprinklescupcake is generously keeping an eye out for them in her area but I guess she's been unlucky so far.

The travel ones haven't made it out my way :( (In Vancouver)

This is getting out of hand XD

I went to the Salvation Army today to look for clothes (50% off Wednesday!) and found a display case.  So far I've deboxed two Pinkie dolls (I'm now calling them "Pinkie Pooper and the Girls").  I need to actually clean this case, but I put two of 'em in just to get an idea:

I am SO excited!  Adjustable glass shelves!! $5.99!! :D  My International Pinkies are going on the top (as soon as I find Beverly Hills Pinkie), the Runway Ladies on the second shelf, and if I can find them Saltine, Sprinkles, and glittery Li'l Pinkie on the bottom!

This is...this is just too much too fast!!

How adorable and a great price too!

I'm only missing the Travel Pinkie dolls so only missing 3 right now and wondering if i should panic now or am I okay to wait?

The Americans might correct me, but it seems like most of the dolls are going on clearance right now, and they are not going to be restocked. If you're in Canada, swing by a Winners and see if you can find the Travel dolls for $10 bucks there. But not all the Winners got them as fair warning.

I am trying to tell myself that I do not need Paris Pinkie. I should not go looking for her at Winners. I can resist! And I can't buy Beverly Pinkie just because I really love the dog that comes with her. No, self!

Also, fashion packs. I know in my heart that it's really not worth it to buy them full price and have them shipped. But but...

Collecting dilemmas as hard :D

I guess either you're lucky or I'm unlucky - the staff just told there was ''no wayyy'' to access the toys until next winter.
(Or maybe the storage rooms are different from one place to another. heh!)

Well, all my hopes are on Winners!

I think the employees I asked were reaaaaaaally bored. The only place that had stock near me was out in the middle of nowhere, and they were definitely not very busy! But the dolls have been spotted in quite a few Winners, so I'm crossing my fingers for you!
