I've been passively watching this develop from a distance for a while, but movies just are not that interesting to me! Do you guys think this movie is them testing the waters for a proper show or is it just a one-off?

I thought they already said there's going to be a series.

My unpopular opinion is I find G3.5 really cute and I'm usually more excited to thrift one of them versus G4. They sell pretty okay for me, too!

Oh agree they are cute. But the end of the g3 line is full of the same 7 ponies. They are a large improvement over the same static pose before the redesign.

Plus they had great hair. Shame hasbro did literally nothing interesting with them.

Yeah this is how I feel about them! I think 3.5s are cute (albeit not horsey of course). Sadly though they are my least favorite generation just because being all Core 7 makes them not very fun to collect. But they're cute and are very high quality as well.

So it looks like Sunny is the new princess since that Sing and Skate has both wings and a horn?

I don't think so. Right now it's theorized that it's a temporary power up she gets in the film, since they seem to be made of light (hence why they are a lighter shade of orange from her body), and the render on the box definitely seems to support that.

i'd think it would be too early to only sell variations of the main characters... seeing this thread tells me im wrong

Oof yeah. G4 began with some alright variety for its early years and then after that began the bombarding of the main cast, but G5 just begins with it immediately. I hope we see some more variety once this first wave is out. There have been some non-"Mane 5", such as Sprout being included in that stylizing size set, and some non-main cast ponies included in that large molded hair set in the Amazon exclusive set, but that's hardly anything. :/ And the upcoming set that has both Mane 5 and Mane 6 ponies I guess but..... should we really count that?

I'm not overly concerned with show accuracy either but a MLP show usually is created with the goal of selling toys in mind, so I don't know why they bothered to design characters with markings that aren't going to be on the toys to begin with?

I was excited to finally have horsey markings on MLP charas, only to find out the toys wouldn't get them! I was a bit bummed.

Yeah! It's very bizarre that they even bothered to have those markings on them. I wish the toys had them. :(

A new line of Equestria Girls merchandise from Japan has been announced, from Amnibus. It features Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. I'm hoping they'll decide to do the other half of the Mane 6 later. Rather than giving them the Equestria Girls skintones, these feature realistic skintones, similar to that of the Kotobukiya figures.

The Tweet announcing them is here.

And the items are up for preorder here.

The merchandise collection includes T-shirts, acrylic stands, keychains, mugs, clear files, and pass cases. I love acrylic stands and clear files so I will be buying those. :)

I assume they do not ship internationally directly, but I've not checked into it yet. Even if they don't (which is more than likely), it is easy to nab merchandise from Japanese shops who lack international shipping through proxies or forwarding services, which I use on the regular.

I hope I can get Gingerbread. Will this site let you choose the pony you want or would they ship a random one out? I can't get one in person as none of the stores that carry the Basic Fun Retro ponies at this point are present here in Washington since Target stopped carrying them.

Pony Corral / Re: Big Mac - can anyone tell me more?
« on: August 16, 2021, 07:31:39 AM »
Hmm... only two Big Mac plushes were ever released, being listed on MLP Merch, and he definitely isn't either of those. He doesn't really look like the unreleased one either. Symbol and the markings on his hooves are definitely different from that one.

I'm leaning toward him being a fanmade plush. Custom hand made plushes was (is?) a very popular thing in the brony community since so many of them didn't like how official plushes weren't "show accurate".

I can't think of any that I outright just didn't like prior to getting them, but I remember being pretty neutral about Wysteria before getting her. I just thought she'd be an average G3 for me but she ended up being one of my favorites. She's stunning in person imo.

As a follow up to my post above from yesterday, I was finally able to find a G5 with rooted hair today. As I mentioned yesterday it was indeed at the third closest Target. They didn't have as much listed as being in stock this morning as they did when I looked yesterday though. Yesterday it showed on the site that they had singing Pipp, styling size Sunny, and the styling size 6 pack set, but upon looking at the stock online this morning, only Pipp remained so when I got there she was my only choice.

The singing Pipp is a really nice toy! I love the way the G5 style works on a pony this large. I look forward to having ponies of the regular styling size and the basic 3 inch size so I can do more of a comparison of them. But the G5 style does work really nicely on the size of Pipp. Her hair is soft and silky (I think it's nylon?), and I love her soft and fluffy wings. My one only real gripe is one that applies to the entire G5 toyline so far and that's the lack of white on Pipp's legs. I do wish they would implement these little design features like this that appear on the characters in the movie on their toys. Spoilered below is photos of her!

I went to four stores today in search of some G5s to get but didn't really find anything. Went to two Walmarts and two Targets. The Walmarts both had some molded hair ponies, including the large playset, and some of the little plushes, but I don't really want any of those? And both Targets had no MLP at all. I did look on Target's website though and their site claims that the third closest Target near me has some G5 brushables though so I'm planning to go there tomorrow. If I don't see any on the shelf I'll probably try asking if they're in the back, since they do show up on the website as in stock.

I think they're probably referring to older kids too! It's definitely not the case that all the kids who were into G4 have moved on from MLP, as teenagers who grew up with MLP are the majority of those I see complaining about G5 on the MLP Instagram every time it posts anything. Many older kids are definitely still attached to MLP.

I'm also a bit skeptical it would be referring to bronies because back when I interacted on brony focused sites the general vibe I got was that for the most part they didn't bother much with buying Hasbro made toys, and mostly stuck to buying some licensed merchandise from other manufacturers (such as Funko) or fanmade items. I'm sure there are bronies out there who bought the main toys, but mostly I saw people going on about how they don't like them and how they aren't "show accurate" or whatever.

It's interesting they decided to go with unicorn Twilight here rather than alicorn Twi. I like how they've got bangs!
