Pony Corral / Re: Taobao/Ebay Finds - Master Thread

Time for some sleuthing! To me, they look very similar to the prototypes that Nakajima Corp showed off at the Tokyo Toy Show a few months ago. Same skinny/bendy legs, embroidered eyes, fabric mane with embroidered highlights. Their snouts are a little pointier/curvier than the protos, though. The Fluttershy posted here seems to have the same "double wing" design as the proto pegasi displayed at the TTS, with two different pieces to the feathering. The Applejack here also has a very similar hat, just a bit larger than the proto's and covering the ears.

Apparently the company decided not to manufacture the plush because they didn't get enough orders from large companies, but I also noticed a unique Princess Twilight Sparkle on ebay a few days ago with similar materials, construction, design cues, and a hangtag in Japanese. I thought it was odd that such a high quality plush with a seemingly official Japanese tag would exist (the tag even has a barcode and safety warning not to give to babies), seeing as the only company stated to have similar plans said they weren't going ahead. And now that I look at the seller's other items, they have an Applejack listed which looks identical to the AJ posted here, they even have the same tush tag! And the AJ listed has the same official-looking Japanese hangtag as Twilight.

So, maybe they are Nakajima prototypes leaking out the factory, or maybe the shop in Singapore placed a good enough order to pull Nakajima back into production? Or perhaps it's nothing at all and I'm blowing a lot of hot air. All we can do is wait and see. ;)

Pony Corral / Re: Wave 9 Nurse Coldheart/Nurse Snowheart variations

That's very interesting, thanks for posting pictures of both variants! Though I'm still more intrigued by the fact that this is a yellow pony and her name includes snow.

11 votes and no replies explaining their choice? I always think that Stella means "star", so I put the baby with the star at the center of her symbol under that name, making her orange. Baby Night Song is therefore white with the ringed planets. :)

Okay, so translating the title, the key words are "genuine, "Collector's Edition", "auspicious" & "Malaysia".

Not sure why Malaysia is in the title unless I'm mistranslating it (though Chinese Malaysians do celebrate Chinese New Year, Malaysia is not predominately Chinese...), but "auspicious" is usually used a lot to refer to the color red and/or Chinese New Year. :) Maybe someone who reads Chinese better than I can give a better explanation.

The color red and the word "auspicious" make me think that she's partly inspired by the lucky red envelopes used to give gifts of money on the Chinese New Year (and other occasions like weddings/family gatherings).

Lucky money is given in Malaysia too, but only by Muslim people on Eid, and they use green colored envelopes to signify the concept of Islamic paradise. Perhaps the person making the listing put Malaysia as a catch-all term for anyone that might be interested in seeing lucky money ponies?

Pony Corral / Re: EQ Girls Dolls, Wich ones have different hair?
« on: October 05, 2013, 07:36:33 AM »
My deluxe Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash dolls had kinda dry/coarse, friction-y hair that frizzed up when brushed. It can be fixed to be silky and smooth by liberal application of conditioner, though.

EDIT: I never thought that the type of hair could change with the accessories! My Fluttershy came with purple wings, and my Rainbow Dash came with red winged boots.

Pony Corral / Re: Cutie Mark Crusaders pack question

I could easily be wrong about this, but I don't think that Star Dreams is the one that will be in the new set based on the eye colour. Newer ponies lack the gradient in their eyes, and the preview image from Target's site has her with solid light blue eyes (with no sign of the darker turquoise the old Star Dreams has).

On another note, the set is also on Kmart's website so it at least won't be a Target exclusive. Not sure if it will be US exclusive or not though.

Some new ponies have gradient eyes, some don't. I'll throw some examples under a spoiler here, because I've been talking a heckuva lot in this thread and should probably cut back

Spoiler
Princess Twilight Sparkle (both regular and fashion size) and Sunset Shimmer from the upcoming Through The Mirror line have gradient eyes, and the printing has been modified to put eye shadow and glitter on them, so it's definitely brand new but still with gradient. Rarity from the Midnight in Canterlot collection doesn't have a very visible gradient, but everyone else from the same set do have gradients! Even Fluttershy, who has a brand new "open" eye shape, and Rainbow Dash, who has Cherry Berry's eyes, printed on her for the first time with round eye shines instead of the hexagonal gem shines that we've seen twice before.

For this new CMC pack, Cheerilee (with the new, rounder head mold), Twist-a-loo and Silver Spoon have been seen with gradient eyes, and those along with Sweetie Belle appear to have clear gradients on this promo image (right click -> view image to see it larger).

Some of them just have an area of lighter colour down the bottom of the iris, and lack the darker shadow up the top. To me, Star Dreams appears to have an overall lighter blue eye colour then her first release, lacking any dark shadow, but with a highlight near the lower part of the eye. A very subtle gradient but still possibly one. At this point, I don't think gradient presence or absence is a reliable marker of whether a pony is new or old release, although it is very interesting (and frustrating!) to try and piece together who's changing and how.

Listings for the new Star Dreams loose figures have shown up on ebay, and she seems to have the same pink-aqua-purple mane with a blended aqua-purple tail. So there's no obvious colour difference. As a note of interest, there's also a listing for a Sweet Slumbers accessory pack that has fine eyelashes Star Dreams in it. Perhaps the SS pack is still being produced now, or the wide eyelashes version was only used for the start of the run.

Search "My Little Pony Star Dreams", located in China.

Same search query, located in Poland. The fact that it's the fine eyelashes version shows up better when you zoom in the picture on the ebay listing.

I don't think that any further information on release dates/countries or in box photos have been seen, but I can confirm a minor difference on Star Dreams - I don't know about hair colour (it appears to be the same pink-aqua-purple), but she has a slightly different eye type. The first G4 baby was Sweetie Belle who had what I call the "wide eyelashes" type. Apple Bloom and Star Dreams had them too. The Pony School Pals release of Scootaloo was the first with a different eye that I call "fine eyelashes". SB and AB continued to be released with wide eyelashes up until the Wedding Flower Fillies pack, where SB was first printed with fine eyelashes.

(wide on the left, fine on the right)

All new baby ponies have been given fine eyelashes (Twisty Treats, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon and Twist-a-loo), and this new pack will be the first printing of Apple Bloom and Star Dreams with fine eyelashes. It seems to be the new standard baby eye, and wide eyelashes has been retired. So if you're interested in miniscule variations like I am, this will technically be a "new" version of Star Dreams. :P

(As an aside, a wide eyelashes version of Scootaloo does exist from the first mispackaged version of Fun at the Fair, but as far as I know very few of these were found and she must be very rare.)

Pony Corral / Re: Orange apple'd Applejack
« on: October 01, 2013, 05:23:14 PM »
Sorry to bump this thread out of the grave but I saw an Applejack on ebay just now which reminded me strongly of the question. If you search "My Little Pony Applejack Pat. Pending" there should be a shy pose AJ listing from the UK. Her symbols show a very unique gradient - faded yellow at the top, orange in the middle, and one red down the bottom. My guess is somebody displayed her in a place that got a very specific angle of sunlight each day, and it shows clearly that lighter symbol coloration is due to fading.

Awesome, looks like the dolls are getting as wide a release as the regular ponies. And thanks everyone for the hair colour information!

They are pretty sparse for highlights (lowlights?)

I find it funny that although Hasbro has the main MLP/FiM line and should be the best official source, the offshoots of Funko and 4DE are the ones making bank on the highest quality show-accurate figures and plush. I'm really excited to have two different merch lines coming out with double sided cutie marks, hopefully it will inspire other production companies to lift their game.

Pony Corral / Re: G2 - Prince Fauna tail rust... help?
« on: September 27, 2013, 06:44:59 PM »
From what I've read, it's the female pony that will have electronics in her. She lights up and says "I love you" when the male touches her cheek. The male just has a magnet in his nose that triggers the effect, so beheading him shouldn't change the function unless you somehow dislodge or lose the magnet.

EQD just posted another picture, complete with release date, dress, hair accessory, and little blurry text down the bottom that says *While stocks last. I believe the stock may not last very long at all!

Pony Corral / Re: Fizzy's Cup Handle Game!
« on: September 27, 2013, 03:12:56 PM »
My Fizzy's handles are facing the tail, and I've never seen a reversed symbol until looking at your image. It looks so odd with the little horizontal cup on the left side! Maybe Fizzy was stumbling and bumping into things around the factory that day and got her stamp reversed on accident.

Huh, that's odd. I was aware that Twilight has pink streaks and Applejack has red streaks in their hair, but I didn't know that Fluttershy had them too. The colour is really bold, it looks the same as Rainbow Dash's red hair colour. None of the photos of Fluttershy I saw online looked like they had streaked hair. Now I'm wondering if Rarity and/or Pinkie Pie have different colours as well? It really looks more like an error, being so sparse and hidden down the back.
