Introductions / Re: This forum just got 20% cooler!

Hey and welcome! :)

Admittedly, even though I'm pretty much in the same age range as the average brony (23 years), I'm not entirely a fan of the culture they've built up for themselves, mostly because I have noticed a majority of them tend to outright bash the earlier gens in the rudest way possible. It's all fine and good to not like something, but the behaviour I've seen from the average brony when it comes to displaying their hatred for the previous pony shows is really frustrating...or maybe I'm just bitter since I grew up watching the original 80's cartoons and will always love them no matter how cheesy they may be ;)

But you seem quite more open-minded toward the other generations, and respect is all I hope for when meeting new pony fans. So welcome!

Alrighty pony folks! I'm on a mission to hunt down some beautiful unicorns for my wedding and I'm reaching out to you for help!

What I'm looking for:
*Inexpensive! Sorry for sounding like a real cheapskate, but since I need to gather at LEAST 35 of these unicorns in the next few months, I'm on a pretty strict budget
*Anything from plastic toys to statues (brass, porcelain, etc.) should be okay
*Anything ranging in size from a blind bag to a G1 adult is a-okay by me
*Molded hair only-sorry, no rooted hair will work
*I really prefer more "elegant" sculpted unicorns, so the chunky bodies of most MLP might not work, but I'm open to my options
*Ugly paint jobs or tiny chips are perfectly fine
* I'm also looking for brooches! I will be making a brooch bouquet including unicorn brooches and would love any jewelry to add to it

What I'm NOT looking for:
*Pricey/valuable ponies-ALL ponies are going to be spray-painted a solid shade of silver so anything particularly expensive or should be left as is will not be suitable
*Anything flocked, plush or with rooted hair

Inky, thats Star Swirl. She's an exclusive release to, I think, Australia. Pricy for us Americans

Aww, just my luck! Thanks for pinpointing her :)

I really wish we knew if the Collectors Set ponies would also be sold separately somewhere down the line. I know I've seen Lyra and Trixie sold by themselves, but no word yet if Lemon Hearts shall be. I'd dearly love to add her to my collection someday but none of the other ponies in the set she's included in interest me.

Can't find Flitterheart or Snowcatcher anywhere. I shan't rest until I find them, especially the beautiful Snowcatcher :(

Also, was Princess Luna ever sold separately as her own brushable, or is she always sold as a part of a set?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I took photos of the three shelves and collaged them together
I love seeing everyone elses collections, they look so organised ^_^

I hope it's alright to ask, but who is that lovely G4 pony on the middle shelf all the way to the left? She has dark purple hair and a blue body...I thought she was Snowcatcher at first but now I don't think the colors are quite right and I can't be sure if I see a horn or not.

I've seen Snowcatcher at Family Dollar..have you checked there?

I don't believe we have that store around here :( I've seen quite a few ponies at Target, yet they never seem to have her, no matter which I visit.

Off Topic / Living with your parents vs. moving out :(
« on: June 24, 2012, 02:33:03 PM »
Okay, I feel really terrible the more and more I think about this and I would really like some opinions and advice. I just turned 23 at the beginning of the month, and I just moved back in with my parents. I'll be living with them for at least another year as I finish school (I thought I would graduate in a semester but it's more likely it'll be 2 semesters). After that, I'll likely live with them a little bit longer as I seek out a steady career I can actually support myself with. This means I probably won't move out to my own, real home until I'm 26-27 years old. Is that too old? Should I move out as soon as I get my BA when I'm 24? I'm really conflicted.

My practical side says there's no problem living at home. I have a good relationship with my parents, I don't pay rent which enables me to save what I make from my part time job for my future down-payment on an actual house, I'm within close distance of the rest of my family, it gives me a stable place to live while I seek out future careers, etc. However, the other side of my brain feels as though I'm being a lazy loser by staying here. From what I read, everyone thinks you should
move out at 18, which I did, I just...moved back in again. I DO work and I have full intentions to find a more stable job once I graduate, but I'm afraid that that simply doesn't matter since I'm still living here.

Advise? :(

Pony Corral / Re: Downsizing a collection?
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:54:36 PM »
My collection isn't very big at all so there isn't much of a need to downsize. However, I do still have a few I would like to get rid of, that I would likely have to Goodwill as they're so common I don't see the point in trying to sell them. I have three G3's, and I'd like to get rid of one or two, and then I mostly have a bunch of the little Ponyville G3.5's...but I feel bad about getting rid of them as they were all gifts, used as caketoppers for my 19th birthday, and I have a Sweetie Belle G3.5 that's...quite ugly, but I don't think I could ever part with her because my mom surprised me with her which makes me smile whenever I look at her. I wonder, if I struck a compromise by keeping Sweetie Belle, would it be so bad to get rid of the others? Gah! I don't want a hoard of ponies but it's terrible shaking the guilt of getting rid of ponies that were gifts.

Oh HUN!! They turned out so so gorgeous!!! I still think she's a prom queen! Stunning!!

:frolic:

Thank you!! I probably would have quit right in the middle of Pretty Belle's tail, it was SO frizzy, if you hadn't helped get me prepped! I couldn't be more shocked at how different they look at just a couple hours of TLC <3

Edited the first post to show them all done up and looking beautiful! I've never deep cleaned a pony like that before and I'm absolutely thrilled at how they turned out  :lovey:

Pony Corral / Buying in person vs. buying online?
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:31:14 AM »
So for those who strictly buy the older generations, this may not as easily apply to you, but I'm curious, do you prefer one method of buying new ponies over another? That is, buying online versus buying in person?

I almost strictly buy G4 ponies, so it's always a huge thrill when I see a new one I've been wanting pop in stores and I get the chance to see her in person before snatching her up. However, there are some G4s I've never seen around here (which I'm pretty sure were sold in the US) that I've been searching for, such as Flitterheart and Snowcatcher. I've seen them for sale a few times here on the forums, but I always hesitate because I wonder if that takes some of "magic" out of happening upon her in the stores, that rush that comes from finding a pony you hadn't expected. I'm having the same feelings with the pre-orders for Sunny Rays, is it worth it to get in on it, or just sit back and wait and hope that she hits a store nearby?

Opinions? Suggestions? Stories to share?

Off Topic / Re: Yesterday's Pizza
« on: June 23, 2012, 04:52:52 PM »
Haha, I don't really eat pizza, but this reminds me of when I learned that a lot of people eat their pumpkin pie cold O.o I always reheat it, I mean...warm pie with just a dollop of whipped cream, how is that not perfection? Yet apparently warming it up isn't the norm around here.
