Introductions / Long Time, No See?
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:38:24 AM »
Hey, MLPA! I'm Veda (or Kanthaka—I'll happily answer to either here) and, after disappearing into the night a couple of years ago, I'm ready to come back to the world of ponies. (You know, if you'll have me.) I've been out of the pony loop for a while now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's new. I'm sure there are a ton of new collectors and customizers out there!

It seems silly to say much about myself here, but feel free to ask me anything.

See you all around the forums!

Coming out of hiding to say WOW:shocked:

Everything about her is absolutely perfect!  Gorgeously smooth sculpting, awesome pattern, a fantastic rainbow of colors... PoD, I think that you've outdone yourself.

Customs / Winter Swap Pony for Kaoskat
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:24:59 PM »
This is Lumi, created for Kaoskat in the 2012 Winter Swap.  I'm a little late with pictures.   She reached her home eons ago and Kat seemed pleased.

Kat's list for the swap mentioned that, while she loves snow, she lives in a place that doesn't see any.  I decided to combine the idea of snow with lights and sparkles--other things that appeared on her likes and things that I happen to like too.

She started out as a molded-wing Starcatcher that some enterprising young artist took a pen to.  I painted white snowflakes and frost patterns and "lights" on top of that.  After several layers of glitter and some odd glitter-stuff from my grandmother's house that looks like small glass beads (it reminded me of snow), I sealed her a couple of times with Testor's Dulllcote.

Lumi was rehaired with several hand-blended colors.  I don't remember the names, but I used a white, a pink, a blue, a yellow, a green, and a lot of Starlight.  She looked a little plain, so I added a braid, some metallic embroidery thread, and a chandelier crystal.  To finish, I sculpted some treats from Apoxie Sculpt, painted them, and repainted a G3 MLP serving tray to put them in.

Apologies for the picture quality, and thank you for looking!

I received a lovely custom with a bunch of extra goodies today!  There wasn't a card or anything so I'm not entirely who to thank.  Ellis1342, I think?  Thank you!

(Haven't shipped yet myself.  What a crazy month!)

Work through the blocks and ignore the plot holes!

It sounds like most everyone's off to a good start, and Katika, thank you for the advice.  I hope that today's a good word count day for you all.

I'm lagging, but the first leg is the hardest part for me. :P  It takes time to convince the editor to help less!

Hey!  Poking my head in here for the first time.   All of your lovely pictures of the MH dolls made me want to customize them and I've somehow ended up latching on to Lagoona and Rochelle and Abby.  Oops?

Rochelle is being rehaired and, in theory, Abby's going to be custom.  We'll see how that goes down.

This is my second year!  I began a bit late last year because I had this ridiculously elaborate plot with equally elaborate character relationships and loads of "supernatural science" to build up, but I managed to hit 50,619 words on the 30th.  It wasn't good enough to share with anyone and I'm not sure if it's salvageable enough to bother editing; the experience was nice, though.  I almost never write because I get caught up in getting everything perfect (and inevitably rage-quitting when perfect doesn't happen).  Just writing without editing myself too much felt like a major accomplishment.

This year, I'm doing a sort of... guided free-writing. ;)  Even if it doesn't work better than the approach I tried last year, it should at least spark some ideas for other projects.

My username's Vedarling on the website, if anyone wants to be friends.  I just joined and haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Customs / Re: Sealer vs. Mod Podge- FIGHT!
« on: October 31, 2012, 01:08:59 PM »
I've just recently started messing around with Testor's, but I've mostly used Mod Podge.  Styling can definitely be a problem when you use Mod Podge and I'm sure it doesn't do well in some climates, but I've lived in humid areas and haven't noticed any stickiness.  I'm not much of a fan of spray sealants, but Dullcoat worked really well for a pony with a full body repaint... after it dried. :P

This is completely personal preference, but I think I'll stick to Mod Podge for sealing smaller areas and use TDC on full repaints.

Happy late birthday, fellow Omahan!  (Is that what people from Omaha are called?  I don't know.)
