Pony Corral / Re: G1 Collectors who collect non-nostalgically?
« on: June 10, 2020, 12:23:54 PM »
Every G1 pony is shaped like a friend

This is true and I want this on a t-shirt.

It's interesting for me to hear how many other collectors got into G1 for their design/aesthetic, it really does it for me too.
s much as I love G3 and 4, I think G1s just have a very timeless feel, their rosy cheeks, soft painted eyes and the whole rainbowy meadow aesthetic they have just give an air of innocence. It also doesn't hurt that they smell really nice.  :P
You def hit the nail on the head!

Now I collect to photograph them. I prefer to find them in the wild because honestly the fun for me is the hunt and the cleaning.

This too! I forgot to mention cleaning and restoration in my original post. I love the before and after, and photographing my collection.

So I guess the short answer is, my love for G1 is motivated mostly by love for them, partly by spite. Jokes on you, mum and ex-stepdad, ya jerks.
 I'm so sorry your childhood collection was taken from you like that. I'm happy that G1 is a source of happiness for you

I honestly didn't expect so many responses, I kind of figured that I was an outlier and I love reading all your stories about how you got into G1!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Fizzy Scrumptious' Pony Art Thread
« on: June 10, 2020, 11:43:17 AM »
Hi there! I saw a few people putting together a thread for their art and updating it accordingly. Here's my own :)

Kicking it off with this drawing of G3s Shell-Belle and August Breeze that I did yesterday, I was compiling a G3 wishlist and fell in love with these two!

Plus some tilted images to show off the glittery pen I used! :good:

Pony Corral / G1 Collectors who collect non-nostalgically?
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:12:53 PM »
So I'm pretty young (turning 20 this year!) compared to a lot of G1 collectors I know, who owned the G1 toys as children. While I owned some G1 cartoons on VHS, I actually grew up playing with G3s and donated them when I thought I was outgrowing them (silly past me :P). When FiM came out I was all over it, diving into the show and the franchise's history. Eventually I stumbled upon Ponylandpress.com and something about G1s just kickstarted a collecting urge in me that G3s and G4s didn't.

Nowadays I'm primarily a G1 collector, but want to get some G2s soon. I know a lot of G1 collectors' nostalgia plays some part in their collecting (not that it's necessarily the driving force). How many collectors on here didn't own G1 in their childhoods, but collect G1s today? What endears G1s to you?

For me personally I wrote a paper on my collecting hobby for a class, and I found that my collecting is probably linked to the satisfaction I get from being able to catalog and organize my collection, not to mention the sense of accomplishment I get from knowing so much about one topic. I think I latched onto G1 because I love their softer designs, and there's so many ponies and so much obscure information out there to learn about!

They look really cute! I love their yarn wings especially!
Aww they look adorable! I really loved this character design when you posted it. ^.^  The yarn hair and wings make them look so soft all over.
Aw, she's so cute! I think you did her design well, I remember when you posted it :)
cute
great first custom

Thank you all so much! I appreciate it ^.^ ^.^

Wow!! Especially for a first custom, she looks fantastic!! The linework on her symbol is absolutely stunning! I also made my first custom out of a fakie, and it ... was not good. XD She's adorable!!

Thank you so much! The symbol took a few repaints and I used a pink sharpie pen for certain spots :P I'm of the opinion that if you enjoyed making a custom it's good no matter what!

Lol, my first custom was also a blond bag. I’m counting it as my first custom, but it’s like an honorary first. They look super nice! And I like the little yellow stars on the nose. It’s a very lovely touch! I recently finished my “first” custom doll as well, and I completely understand the learning curve. With time and practice, I’m sure we can both get better at it!

I still have my old blindbag custom! she's an honorary first too :P I'm sure we'll both improve, good luck on your customizing adventures!!

They are SERVING those brows and liner  :flirty:  :lovey:

yessss :rainbow:

She looks very cute, and I adore her symbol!  The yarn hair makes her look so soft.  I've never done a yarn rehair, was it hard to do?

tysm! I've never rehaired anything before so I will say that I did it the totally wrong way... I tied strands of yarn together with a single knot and pulled the ends through HUGE hair plugs that I made with scissors. They're less hair plugs and more hair holes :P

Customs / Starsketch - My First Custom!
« on: June 01, 2020, 06:16:38 PM »
Hi all! With the abundance of free time on my hands I figured that I could finally get to work customizing this old fakie that's been sitting around for literal years, hairless, waiting for me to get started :P Technically I've customized before, but it was a G4 blind bag that I painted in 7th grade so I elect not to count it. lol

So here is my first custom, of my ponysona Starsketch! I only used what I had on hand and it was certainly a learning experience (and a hack job - I'm not selling this anywhere so I took scissors to the hairplugs to be able to get the yarn through ).

There were def lessons to be learned from this project but overall I'm really happy with how they came out! I'm good at drawing small but painting small is a whole different thing :P

I love the rest of the line to death but Molasses is just so boring to me. The pink+blue color scheme was done better on Sugar Sweet IMO. And for some reason I'm not a big fan of her symbol compared to the rest. I agree with others in the thread about Caramel Crunch's clashing colors, but I think her adorable symbol saves it for me :P

Molasses I think. She need any wrong colors maybe. Smth like that?

I would love Molasses with these colors!!

Pony Corral / Re: Your Top 5 Favorite Baby Pony Sets
« on: May 31, 2020, 11:10:50 AM »
The Fancy Pants Babies are another one where I was fairly indifferent to them, and then I suddenly really liked them.  What set that one off was the Argentina Fancy Pants Babies.  My husband got me one several years ago, and I suddenly had to have all of them!  I had one Fancy Pants I got as a Christmas gift from a friend when I was like 11, and the nostalgia got to me.

I honestly really love the Fancy Pants babies! I just think their symbols and colors are so pleasant. They're all so cute!!

I suppose in order I would rank my top 5:

1. Baby Rainbow Ponies - I'm a sucker for rainbow!!
2. Sweetie Babies - if only money weren't an object...
3. UK Starlight Baby Ponies
4. First Tooth - they're classic and pretty darn adorable ;__;
5. Fancy Pants

Up Up and Away has specifical colors. I don't think what they are combined well. I really love balloons, but green, yellow and hard pink? Srsly?  >_<

I agree! I really don't like how her colors were combined, the balloons don't look that good against her pink IMO. I feel like the green wasn't a good choice lol

If I'm remembering correctly, G1 Baby Frosting isn't super loved, bc of the shade of green they used and probably also bc BBE. But one came with a lot of ponies I bought a few years ago and I fell in love. What can I say? Baby Frosting is just adorable!!

I can relate to the people mentioning how their mental health is not being helped by this quarantine.  >_< My brain's been a fun roller coaster of anxiety these past two weeks. Doesn't help that I work at a grocery store so I can't effectively self-isolate, though I'm grateful to still have a job at all! I've been doing a lot of art and working on my pony website in the meantime, though. My ponies give me projects to focus on, which is helpful :)

Hi there, I have a pony page (see below) let me know if you can see it ok.

Yay I can see it just fine, adding it to the list! Your pony photos are so gorgeous! I love looking through them.

I don't have a website but I love yours! It's so interesting to read.
I can't wait for you to add more. I wish I could help but I know nothing about building a website...
It's still fun tho.

Thank you! <3 I'm using Weebly so thankfully I don't need to know any coding. It has an interface that's easy to use if you don't know how to code, but you have to be a little patient about building it.

Cool, I bookmarked your website. I look foreward to see how it evolves.
I also have a world created around my ponies :)

I don't have a pony website at the moment - I have one for my toys and there is a bit of MLP in there and I have a couple of MLP albums on Flickr, but I have plans of making a new pony website along the lines the ones I used to have years ago. I don't know when that will be, though, but probably sometime during this year.

Thanks! I love learning about the worlds people build with their collections. I just took a look at your Pommel photos and they're so fun and dynamic! If you put together a new site I would love it see it!  :)

I love all the photos you took!!

Thank you! <3 I wanted to give little backdrops to the documentation photos instead of just a blank wall. Now I realize how much work I've made for myself... *side-eyes the size of my collection*

Ahhh I love this, it looks amazing so far! I've bookmarked it as well. I love pony websites too, I miss the days where there were more of them.

Here's mine! <3 It's a bit messy atm as I'm reorganizing a lot of things but yeah >u<

Thank you so much! I already added yours to the list since I remembered it from another thread about pony sites. I took a second look at your site and REALLY love how much of your collection you've documented. I don't know what it is, I love scrolling through peoples' cataloging of their stuff :P

Mine is in my sig but it is more an info site featuring my ponies than a collection site...

Wow your site is so dedicated!! What an awesome store of UK pony knowledge <3
