I never really thought about that; I keep my collection small (as in one plastic tote's worth), and pretty much all of them are common figures, mostly G3.  So unless there's some crazy market bubble that forms in the next few decades that makes G3s highly sought after, I have no problem giving them to young family members to play with.  Or just donate them!  :)

I'd like to (finally) try my hand at rehairing and customs.  I have a Cherries Jubilee with a hopelessly dry, frizzy mane that could use a rehair, and a baity Beach Ball and Streaky that I want to do something with - I like purple unicorns in the trotting pose.  :P

Awesome spread!  With as popular as the strawberries and bananas were, maybe for a future party you should do a fruit theme!  Bananas, mango, all kinds of berries... mmm...  :D

I'm a Taurus - we like our possessions and earthly delights, so I suppose being a collector is no surprise!

The lack of Leo members isn't surprising, either; Leos value passion and ideals more than they do tangible stuff, so they're not typically into building up hoards.  :P

Not a fan of G2 in general, so I'll pass on this gal.  Cute name though!  :)

Pfft!  Casserole is well-trod territory where I live!  ;)  In Minnesota we call it hotdish.   ^.^

Then you'll just need to make a very obscure, challenging casserole!

What?  No tater tots?  OUTRAGE!  :P

I'm just kidding around... I look forward to finding a more "unconventional" casserole to make!  Maybe something that would use up leftover turkey...  ;)

I decided to try a vegan casserole in order to get away from the standard "starch + dairy + meat" theme that so many casseroles have!  :P

This one sounds hearty and nummy - lentil & mushroom shepherd's pie! :-9

Yeah, I agree with most everyone who's posted - the prognosis is grim.  G4 just won't appreciate in value for a few reasons:

~Redundancy.  The G4 merch has been largely "Main Six" stuff with little variety to speak of.  Less unique figures = less scarcity, creating an item that's not especially rare or sought after.

~Popularity.  Because of the huge influx of FiM fans, who are largely the type to buy collectibles and other merch in large quantities, the overall number of merch available on the secondhand market is plentiful - including comics.  Again, the more of something there is, the less its individual value.

~Quality.  The G4 line is notorious for its poor QC on toys and other figures.  Even the Funko figures are often badly painted, smudged, etc.

~Larger collector communities and ease of purchase through the internet.  Only a few decades ago, collectors of any particular item, but especially children's stuff like toys and comics, were not especially common.  They had limited means of communication with each other, and acquiring the items that you wanted was not that easy.  Nowadays, nostalgic collectors are much greater in numbers, and the internet allows for the formation of communities and subcultures, as well as making the collecting itself much easier with online retailers, eBay, etc.  With more people investing in brand-new toys, books etc. from the moment they hit stores, the more quantity is squirreled away and the less valuable it will be in the long run.

I'm curious if anyone else has found these
I have!  The one in Lakeville, MN had two of the three designs out.  ^.^

Those are quite the cute tins, though I am not much of a jelly bean fan.
The tin comes with just a small packet of jellybeans - they could maybe fill up only 1/4 of the container.  The tin itself looks like it has about a 6 oz. capacity or so.

She's one of the later G3s with more of a generic name and color scheme.  She's not really unique enough to catch my fancy, truth be told!  :P

Oooh! I just found out there's a CB about 15 minutes south of me.  I may have to pay them a visit soon...  ;)

When I was younger I used to compile a sort of "catalog" list of things I wanted for holidays (books, DVDs etc.) which included a picture of the item and a detailed description.  :P  This was before the net was really widespread and before handy tools like Amazon Wishlists, etc.  I would think that if MLP still had some variety to it, we could still make wishlists to make it easy for relatives to identify and shop for the toys that we were looking for in stores.

But secondhand shopping, forget it!  I can't see anyone but the most adept eBayer look for G1 ponies in a certain condition for their crazy collector cousin.  ;)

That's why I like the Arena Swaps - shopping for collectors, by collectors!  I can't wait to see which ponies I get from my partner in the Holiday Swap this year!!  :D
