I originally picked up one just after the first pony project. I picked up another one up last year.
I made the effort to pull my original one MIP out to compare the condition and decide which one to sell.

Well turns out they are not the same. They are in fact different in a few ways.
The one on the left in all the photos is my original one that I pulled out of her bag.
The one on the right in all the photos is the one I bough last year.

Here are some of the noticeable differences
1- left is taller
2- left is slightly slimmer
3- mane is rooted differently

Here is a link to the photos

Any other differences I missed?

For those of you that have the blank or one of the Pony Project ponies which one do you have?
I would love to know any other info you can provide about the one you have.

Thanks!

When I started I had one pony that I would paint on then remove the paint and do it again.
She was my experimental pony. I never planned to make her into anything specific.
I used her as a way to test out things before putting them on a custom I was working to completion.
I never felt bad when it didn't turn out because I knew I could just repaint her again and again till I got it down.
I learned a ton by doing that and probably saved a ton of baits in the process.
It's all about practice

You are talking about the large blanks sent to artists for the pony project correct?
If so I bough mine for about $300 USD back about the time of the pony project.
You really don't see them come up for sale very often.
I don't think there are very many of them in the hands of collectors.
I have seen far fewer of them than rosey posey or the breast cancer awareness pony.

Not sure if I would part with mine for less that $650 however mine is mint.
Without pictures but given what you have said I would still say probably still at least $500.

Rares are really tough to price so I would love to hear others opinions as well.

I almost feel like we need a how to section on this site.  Keep all of these kind of things around easy to find

The rosey posey on eBay is up for $600 which I agree is too high. I haven't seen her up as frequently as I did several years ago. I feel like she is worth at least $350. She is really a lovely pony in person. I certainly wouldn't part with mine for less than that.

I feel like rares are hard to price because they come up so infrequently. Sometime you have to just wait for the right buyer to come along. Also the high price tag it's also a timing thing for even the people who can buy them.

closed mouth is more common.
I currently have in my collection 2 closed mouth and 1 open mouth.
The average of the 2 closed mouth version I bought was about 370 USD
I bought all of these in the past year so it should be pretty accurate.

The breast cancer pony is between $350 and $500 depending on what version you get.

I think ebay would tell you to pay with Paypal because they are practically the same thing. From what I remember Paypal is owned by ebay.

I have both versions of ribbons and hearts.
Is there a particular way you would like to have them photographed?

If you want diversity in a smaller collection you could just buy your favorite pony of each set.
It would give you a good way to see a pony from the set in person before you buy the whole set.
You could also buy a nice lot and get to know what flaws you are willing to live with and what you can't accept.

I don't think there is a wrong way to collect. Just keep the spending in check.

Don't forget to enjoy the ones you have too!

Congrats SDS!

I just hit the 10 year mark back in February.  I dated my husband for 7 years before we got married. Would have married sooner but wanted to finish college first.

The irony of the marriage is that we both started hanging out together because we didn't want to date and we didn't see each other as someone we would ever date.
We just wanted to be friends. Guess that didn't go as planned. Definitely turned out for the best though. I don't think I could have made a better choice.

For those of you searching for love "don't give up" and "be open to the possibility". You may find it in unexpected places and when you are least prepared for it.

They should have started here with the EQG. If the dolls with brushable hair had this style they would have made a killing IMO.

I grew up with G1 ponies and have about 60 of them. My entire original herd and my cousins that she didn't want anymore. Nothing is quite the same as the ones you grew up loving and playing with.

However that being said, I LOVE G3! They are the only ones that I have been excited to get a complete collection of. I was SO excited when I heard they were bringing ponies back and I hunted them down and bough the first wave. I was hooked. I loved the body proportions, the ears and they eyes. I loved everything about them. Sure I missed the unicorns and pegasus ponies but these were much more like the G1 ponies with their unique ponies in each series(until the end, 3.5). G3 really makes up the bulk of my collection. I have almost every one, including many of the rares and proto types. I think the only thing I wish they had done that they didn't do was add unicorn and pegasus ponies sooner, more baby ponies and boys.

I really wish I had pictures of my collection to share in this thread. When I get them all out again I will share some pictures!
I would love to see some some pictures of the G3 ponies people most love. I LOVE seeing the hair styles people come up with and the photogenic qualities of G3.

Sometimes it's hard to believe what you see on eBay.
I have seen both depressingly low prices for things and other time prices that seem outrageously high.

I would prefer to sell to the fine members here over eBay any day. I just haven't bought or sold ponies in significant quantities for several years.
