The Dollhouse / Re: Barbie Extra!

It seems strange not to rush them out for the holiday season, doesn’t it?

I love #3 as well—she gives me glammed-up 90s popstar vibes. :D

The Dollhouse / Barbie Extra!

Has anyone else seen these Barbies up for sale? It seems they’ve been released in some of the EU, but the Amazon US page slates them for January. I already preordered “Beanie/#2” (look at that adorable outfit!), but the preorders for the others have already sold out!

They remind of the BMR1959 line in terms of detail and style, albeit more modernized and geared towards a younger crowd. I’m so thrilled to see more general Barbie releases featuring articulation and detailed fashions, though! Plus, I’m in love with all the colorful outfits and hairstyles. What do you guys think?

The greatest missed opportunity of all: not keeping the amazing tone and stylings of RaMC for the entirety of the series. X3 RaMC was MLP at its very finest, IMO.

Which leads into... We need more villain toys! G4 was the first time we received any at all, if I’m not mistaken. Tragically, we still don’t have a single representation of Tirek or Scorpan, despite them making it into FiM.

Are these standard POP size, or vinyl minis? If they’re standard size... I might have to grab them to go with my other retro toy POPs. XD
Standard POPs!

RIP my wallet. :’)

I actually quite liked the 3.5 look (gasp!), so I have a soft spot for the Mom ponies. Mom Dash is my favorite of the three. ^_^ Have!

Hugs for all! Thank you for the support, everyone. It means a lot, honestly. This has been such a difficult year to process, and just being able to visit this forum and be part of this community has helped so much to ease the strain.

It’s not at all trivial, but I honestly just don’t have the emotional energy to make a full thread in WYP...

My elderly aunt and uncle were diagnosed with Covid-19, and are having trouble getting treatment (presumably due to hospital shortages and the surge in cases). I lost two grandparents this year (unrelated to the pandemic), and this really just feels like too much. I feel like crying, but I’m just so numb and shocked that the tears won’t even come. I can’t wait for this terrible year to end, even though obviously a new calendar can’t actually restore the people and things we’ve lost...

Every time I go through major stress, my pain and migraines get worse... Uuuugh, my neck and jaw feel so stiff, it’s awful. :(

Unicorns, because I love the folklore and history surrounding them. :)

Pony Corral / Re: Rather than a reboot, what if we got a redo?
« on: November 07, 2020, 08:13:28 PM »
I think OP meant a reboot in the sense of same franchise name but completely different toys, line, concept etc. And redo as in a reboot based on a previous gen characters/location/toys...whatever.

Ah, that makes more sense. Still, the fandom terminology can get a bit murky in those areas...

This might be a hot take, but I just don’t feel like MLP as a whole has the kind of enduring or iconic characters needed to make a “redo” viable or desirable. G4 might have changed that a bit with its focus on a core cast, but even so it seems like the general idea of MLP (rainbow fantasy ponies with pictures on their flanks) is more recognizable and timeless than any specific character. In short, I feel like MLP will always be better off for refreshing the cast and overall feel of the brand to reflect the current market.

Getting pretty meta in terms of fandom definitions and whatnot, but... Wouldn’t a “redo” still be a “reboot”? I mean, you could use all G1 or G2 characters, make the toys look retro, even build on to an existing world/story... but it would still be new and disjointed from the original version of what it’s emulating. Most fans would never accept it as “G1 canon”. It would always be “G1 REBOOT canon” or even something like “G1 2.0 canon”. Lots of franchises choose to use classic characters, designs, and backstories *cough*Transformers*cough* while still keeping those generational “universes” separate.

As for whether I’d like to see a redo attempted... I really wouldn’t. I like seeing cameos of characters from past gens (like Tirek And Scorpan in G4), but I wouldn’t want to see a current series actually attempt to be a sequel or reimagining of an existing gen. MLP is a franchise that does best when it innovates IMO, so I want something new. :)

The Dollhouse / Re: MONSTER HIGH RETURNS
« on: November 04, 2020, 04:33:42 AM »
Personally- I love Pennywise but I would love a Beetlejuice too!

It seems like these may be the start of a new collector line- which makes sense, since it is more adults than kids that would be interested in MH at this point probably. (the kids have moved on).

I just noticed this posted on their new "Mattel Creations" site (which seems to be a rebranded repurposed matty collectors)

SKULLECTOR DOLLS
From the makers of Monster High™,Skullector™ is an all-new, horrifying collectible line of dolls featuring scare-raising skullebrities and some of the most haunting characters ever to appear on the silver scream. Crafted with to-die-for details, dead-on costumes, and drool-worthy accessories, they’re so creepy and collectible – it’s scary!

I also kinda like their MOTU crystal Skeletor, although I would have preferred Shera..

I find the language “from the makers of Monster High” to be very interesting. It sounds like they’re branding these as “Skullector Dolls” rather than an actual part of the MH line/branding. That’s a much better idea, IMHO, given the stark departure from the original look and themes of MH.

Pennywise not so much because it's the remake one. Props to them for using a girl for him, tho. Fans know Penny is really a female spider and just shapeshifts into a male clown for spoopy reasons.

This makes me happy, as well. :D Now bring on the spider-version doll! THAT I would buy. XD
