I've needed Ringlet to complete my Rainbow Curls for a long time, but I'm always self-sabotaged by my own pickiness. I know a Ringlet without wing rubs will come along someday, but it's hard to be patient sometimes.

Like, it seems to me that if they weren't planning on making "normal Majesty" for stores, then they'd make the SDCC pony "normal Majesty", if that makes sense.

Yeah, it does make sense. Majesty, being queen and all, would be special enough on her own as an exclusive. It would have been a lot easier to make a "normal" Majesty repro, maybe in a fancier box or with one "extra" like SLH, for the SDCC. Instead she's a kitchen sink scenario of super long metallic hair, pearly coat, glitter horn, symbols evvvvverywherrrre! They didn't need to do all that... unless they wanted to make her significantly different to a standard, store-bought Majesty? One can hope. ;)

Do employees seriously run the other way? Either I’ve never had that happen to me, or I’m too naive to have noticed...

Sure-  they see some lady coming to pester them, they don't want to deal with it, so they pretend they don't see you and hurry off in the opposite direction.  They don't get paid commissions at Target so there is no motivation to wander around being helpful. They are certainly NEVER going to ask you "Hi can I help you with something?"

Of course there may be regional differences.  I speak of Targets in Seattle and So Cal.  I bet the Targets in the midwest are much more friendly...

Huh. I usually get the “Hi! Can I help you with anything? :D” reaction. Maybe I’ve been taking midwestern hospitality for granted all these years. XD

Yeah... Seattle in general is not overly friendly.  Lots of bookish nerds that run for cover. It's not that they are necessarily mean or nasty-   just shy or antisocial mostly. (okay and some are straight up unfriendly

The first time I visited a midwestern state the people were so bizarrely friendly-  it was a real culture shock, haha  I honestly had a hard time believing they were sincere at first...  :P

I think it must be highly localized to Seattle proper, because I've been to a bunch of Targets from Redmond to Renton, and all the redshirts have been very kind and helpful to me.

I will say that the cake-taking of Target employees' eagerness to please was in the midwest though. I was living in Indiana when the Basic Fun (then Bridge Direct) original six retros had just come out, and after a lot of looking, Glenn (ilu 4ever) came from the back empty-handed and apologetic. I did the rest of my shopping and was standing in line to check out, when Glenn rushes up to me with a shipping box in his hand! He had stumbled across them in a different section and raced all over the store to try to find me, bless him.

I haven't experienced quite that level of dedication since, but everyone at Target has always been happy to help me. Just making eye contact down the aisle is enough to get a "can I help you find anything?" but maybe I just look perpetually befuddled. Resting distressed face?

It's worked to my advantage though, since I've been able to help a bunch of international fans get their ST AJ. :) I'm hoping that the next shipment comes in soon because I don't like to clear out the stock at any one location and the pickings are getting slim.

Hey Ardid, I think Moonbreeze is going to take her, but I can try to get one for you too. The folks at Target are getting a little sick of me, but I don't mind.

I find myself in the possession of one (1) extra ST AJ and would like to move her along to a proper home ASAP. As ever, I'm only asking cost+shipping for her, but serious buyers only please. -_-

If interested, please post here, since I won't be reliably checking my PMs over the US holiday weekend. Thanks, and enjoy season three!

I think it’s absolutely awesome that the retro ponies have been so popular that Basic Fun is releasing a SDCC exclusive! Even if I never own this one (which I hope I can snag one online), it still means that Basic Fun is willing to try new things other than just faithful reproductions. If this one does really well then they might start considering releasing new characters or “artsy” ponies in a wider market.

Well said. This is one instance where I'm not even going to be a little disgruntled about the SDCC scalpers. If it encourages Basic Fun to believe there's a market for "new" G1s, then I hope they don't leave the con with even one Majesty left over.

I'm glad they're willing to try new takes on old toys. Is it just me, or do some of the flowers look faded?

The TAF symbols are smaller and lighter than her actual symbols, and there's a bit of glare in some spots from her pearliness, but nothing that looks faded to me.

Lemon Drop might have had a chance if they hadn't screwed it up by selling her with her actual playset. This and the insistence on Target exclusives are the only things Basic Fun has done to annoy the heck out of me. I would have loved the Show Stable.

I don’t think this is a case of these being “Target exclusive.”  Target usually puts a sticker on  things that are meant to be exclusive to them.   Plus Walmart had the collector ponies over the holidays.   This is a case of other stores simply choosing not to carry these.

And have you seen any other place selling the rest of these since TrU kacked it? I sure haven't.

That's not Basic Fun's fault or even in their control. They haven't "done" anything to make the retros exclusive to Target. (Neither has Target!) It's all just down to which retailer agrees to purchase them from BF and sell them to us. So far, only Target has really stepped up, although Nordstrom carried the unipegs briefly and Cracker Barrel has (had?) the 1st wave rainbows. (BF says Walmart is a supplier as well but...) I'm sure Basic Fun would be happy to have more places order the retro ponies, but they can't force their way onto the shelves.

While I was out getting ST AJs, I noticed that Target has marked down the Pretty Parlor again. Now it's down to nine dollars (like buying Peachy and getting the playset free!) and there are still at least half a dozen of them.

At this rate, I'm not feeling good about Lemondrop's chances of being picked up by Target. :( It would be nice if she eventually showed up somewhere though... Maybe a non-US country could get an exclusive for a change!

As far as the scented rainbows, I would rank them this way, from safest to riskiest, based on my own experiences and the reports of others here:
Skydancer
Windy
Sunlight
Starshine
Parasol
Moonstone
But it's entirely possible to get lucky and not have a problem with any of them. :) My second scented Moonstone is still fine, although I've been tempted to get an unscented one as insurance. Especially if you like scented stuff, I think it's worth the gamble.

Whenever her friends try something new, Star Dasher is there to encourage them. Just last week, she helped some pony pals learn to skate by cheering them on. Then her friends gave her a hand as she learned to ski downhill!

Star Dasher is a member of the "Princess Who Skates" team at the annual Pony Pony Derby. In the spirit of the great event's theme, the pony princesses will compete in the largest event of its kind in their home city of Indianapolis, Indiana. The three princesses are a mix of old and new, each vying for the championship title to celebrate the Princess Who Skates festival. The two ponies on stage are the first princesses who have ever won in the Derby.

Star Dasher is a fan of all things nerdy!

Star Dasher also loves playing with her sister on the swings. She's always been a fan of the little ponies, so when the royal family invited her to join the Derby for the very first time as part of their princess line, she jumped on board. She's so excited for the chance to compete with her sisters.

"I knew there'd be something for the three of us."

For Star Dasher, that means making an impact. She hopes her skills will help them bring this festival and Pony Pony Derby to the greater downtown area.

I can't even begin to describe how much Princess Pony Roller Derby would improve the Indianapolis downtown area.

Thanks to a kind Arena member, I was able to get ST Applejack! <3 Her name is now Mindjacker. XD

And look! El made friends with a pony in the Upside-Down!

Eleven makes a badass Megan XD

It's really disappointing to hear that only Target chose to carry Applejack after all. :( I guess I can understand if American '80s nostalgia isn't exactly a sure bet overseas, but I thought a pop-culture store like Think Geek or FYE might pick her up for the US market too. I hope that Targets get another case in later, or ST AJ is going to be a very limited release indeed. :(

The map inside the backpack is interesting. I wonder if those are schematics to the Starcourt Mall? I don't think I'd buy it for myself, but I'm definitely going to try to see it in person. I'm getting pretty hyped for S3 to drop!

Oooh, I love stuff like this!

"Carrehz is a lavender unicorn pony with lilac hair, an insect theme, and tinsel hair."

Hmmm, not into the insect part, and I could do without the tinsel hair ;) but I like the rest of it, sounds cute!! ^^

Oh, that sounds just like G2 Dragonfly! Lucky Carrehz, your pony already exists!

Pony Corral / Re: hydrogen peroxide tutorial?
« on: June 22, 2019, 01:36:42 PM »
Hydrogen peroxide use is more art than science. No one can tell you exactly what to do to get the result you want because there are a lot of different variables (between peroxide solutions, between relative UV exposure of different times/locations, between ponies themselves...) There are no hard and fast maximums and minimums, it's just what works for you.

I will say that if you're hoping to get her head not just unyellowed, but also matching her body, then you will have to treat her body as well. The peroxide will "brighten" out a little of her blue color as well as the yellow, so her head would end up slightly lighter than her body otherwise.

Also, as the pony continues to age, she may continue to yellow. Hydrogen peroxide bleaching may fix the symptom, but it's not a cure of the "disease" of plastic degradation. So it may be necessary to repeat the process in the future if you want her to always be true blue. Something to consider when you're making your custom. ;)

You still could think of her as a new character! XD Like... Applejack’s terrifying, Upside-Down counterpart (a Demo-Applejack?).
Jackapple?

We were having a lot of fun with this at my house yesterday. XD Our favorites:

Shadowjack
Blackjack
Applebarb
Apple-Upside-Down-Cake
Kajelpa (Applejack backward)
El Packaj (Jackapple backward, quite fitting when packing up extras for shipping!)

Here's my take, as someone who ships internationally fairly often, albeit not through Facebook:

1.  I read on the other thread that there is supposed to be an international release.  So do we all just need to relax a little and wait a bit longer?

Yes, probably. But there's always the chance that it won't be released in [country] and by the time an overseas person knows that for sure, the available stock in the US might be gone, making it even harder to get than before. So people have to decide what horse they want to back, if you'll pardon the metaphor.

Quote
2.  Is it difficult and expensive to ship overseas?  I read on here you guys talking about fees the posts in Europe charge.  And do I have to muddle through complicated shipping and insurance forms?

Not difficult (only one extra small form that Bandit explained) but expensive for sure. For example, just sending AJ across the border to Canada is $17.25 and overseas would be around $25. Insurance would be extra on top of that, but I doubt anyone would spring for insurance on a $10 pony anyway. But those costs are all the buyer's concern not yours. As are any import fees on their end.

For another data point, I almost always mark "gift" on the form. Since I'm dealing with friends -- or people I'm at least friendly with -- in secondhand goods that don't really have monetary value in wider society... It's easier for me to conceive of that as a (reciprocated) gift than merchandise. If I were a Facebook/Instagram/eBay seller, I might feel differently.

Quote
3.  Is it ok to charge a little bit extra for my time?  I'm not going to take advantage of anyone by any means, but isn't that fair?  And what would be an ok mark up?  A couple dollars?  Five?

 That's a personal call. I would feel awful about charging desperate people extra for the opportunity to get what I can easily have. If I'm already taking trips to Target and the P.O. (which I am) then "my time" is like an extra ten minutes max, which is like... The warm fuzzies from helping others is payment enough? I mean, maybe if I was taking an extra bus to a different location for the sole purpose of doing them a favor, then I would add that to the "actual cost" of the item, but I would be up front and exact about that.

On the other hand, in this scenario, I wouldn't feel bad at all about insisting they pay their own paypal fees if applicable. Otherwise, selling ponies "at cost" would actually be costing me money to send them. ^^;

Quote
4.  Is it ok to ask people on Facebook if they are a member here with feedback I can check?  I don't want to get scammed.

Definitely! TBH, I wouldn't even consider doing a favor for some rando on Facebook if they weren't someone I recognized from around the MLP community. It's not a guarantee against scamming, but it's reassuring to at least sort of know who you're dealing with.
