Pony Corral / Re: Collector’s Guilt?
« on: December 01, 2023, 11:40:49 AM »
I think, most of the times, those "call outs" are about making themselves look moral and beyond reproach by putting someone else down.  People who buy things, anything is contributing to human suffering and it really stinks.  It's just the pot calling the kettle black.  And trying to make one out to be worse is nonsense because we know, we know that the critical one is buying stuff, using energy and "wasting money."

The good side.  If anyone buys something, that money goes to someone else.  It doesn't just disappear.  It pays someone's wages, helps pay someone's rent, feeds a kid, buys them a toy and ultimately ends up in some multi-billionaire's pile of money where it really will go to waste - never to see the economy again.  :P   Ok, that's probably going too far lol.

But, unlike most of the things we buy, we can enjoy the toys and then resell them and get some of that money back.  We are keeping them from going into a landfill and they will, eventually belong to someone else.  We are only taking care of them for a short lifetime.

I do support laws that will reduce human suffering and help the planet.  I think that's really important.  We should be able to buy things knowing that we aren't doing damage somewhere else.  It's not at all transparent and it should be.

I have to admit, I don't watch the cartoons/movies.  Nor did I watch the g1 cartoons.  I would put them on for my niece while I worked but nothing I heard made them appealing.  Frankie in love again.  Or Cleo. It does sound like I missed a lot though.

I love the dolls  and just insert my own characters for them.

For G3, I really like Draculaura.  Venus and Abbey look good too.

I also love the G1 styled re-release dolls.  I've only bought one because of their prices but the  Howliday Edition Cleo looks incredible.

Shockponie, congrats on your new dolls!  I love how Jack and Sally look.  Amazing.

I'm waiting for my Draculaura.  I was going to buy her when she came to stores, but I haven't seen her.  So Amazon.

I really wonder what audience they're targeting when they put up these surveys.  But, my siblings and I had all of the winning toys.  My Little Pony and Transformers should still be the winner though.

Carrehz, thank you for the codes! If I ever spot them in the wild, I'm going to try to find Spike.

Eee! I love the skeleton costumes!

My friend had bat wings on her doggos.  I wish I had a picture.  One of them is teeny and almost bat sized.

We got trick-or-treaters too.  At first I thought no one was coming but after about nine we started getting all the middle school kids and high school students.  I started to lose count.  I'm good with older kids and even adults showing up.  I mean, what a nice holiday that encourages sharing treats and dressing up.

I am not a big fan of Nightmare Before Christmas the movie.  It looks amazing but I didn't like the story very much. Note hate, just meh. It's been easy to pass on the merch.   However, those two dolls are incredible!  I didn't try for them but there will always be a little regret there.

Congrats to everyone who got them though.  Looking forward to pictures!

Oh! I love all the images and the video.  You guys have the best ideas.

Here is my doggo.  She is a mixed breed we adopted from a shelter.  This girl is so sweet to both dogs and people and even our cat. Really well mannered and goofy. She thinks she looks like a shark... but most think it looks like she's being attacked by one.

Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro's Most Baffling MLP Decisions
« on: October 25, 2023, 11:02:17 AM »
I remember kids getting bored with their toys -even in the 80s.  Once I visited a little boy who had entire toy chest just for his transformers but, he said he didn't play with them.  He was more interested in the TV he had in his room.  He just had... too many toys.  Another girl left her ponies outside all of the time.  They were trampled and forgotten.  She said she didn't care about them.  I felt so awful for them.  Poor Sunbeam.   I saw this sort of thing a lot growing up. I just remember thinking how much of a waste that was.  Especially as I adored the few toys I had... even my sister's barbie.  We played too rough with them sometimes but we still loved them.

I think maybe most kids would be happy with one or two toys.  More than that and it's about impressing classmates or family doesn't know what to give them.   Now, collector children and adults... that's a different story.  :P

A baffling (but welcome) Hasbro decision was dropping the Mane Six for G5.  They didn't even go with the low-hanging fruit of "The new ponies are the children of the Mane Six," instead it's this grim dystopian future where the Mane Six failed and are all presumably dead.  It's sooo funny and probably my favorite way they could possibly have kept a connection to G4.  Anyway, the surprising part is that they would sideline the Mane Six since Hasbro has been trying to establish a core cast of widely recognizable ponies for SO long (since MLP Tales) and had finally achieved it.  Through cultural osmosis, even people who weren't into ponies knew names like "Fluttershy" and "Twilight Sparkle".  The early leaked concept art for G5 showed exactly what I expected:  the same six ponies, rebooted in a new universe with some minor cosmetic changes.  But then Hasbro punted them to the side in favor of a new cast.

I can only speculate that Hasbro wanted to leave the whole "brony" thing behind them and thought the best way to do this was to pivot away from the G4 cast.  And it worked, most bronies seem to hate (or at least be annoyed by) G5.  This makes me even more enthusiastic about the new generation, lol.

They lost rights

That's shocking.

Wow shockponie! I love that you celebrate all year and those new buckets are nice.

My dog was invited to a Halloween party.   :silly:   So we are going together to see all the other doggies and their costumes.  My dog is going as a shark but I doubt she'll wear it very long.

These are my decorations:
