I kind of wished Hasbro took this opportunity to make a round eyed unicorn sculpt. Then they can reuse that sculpt to their heart's content, plus adding variety to the line. I do like me some variety :B

Otherwise, I really love the colours used on her. Of course I'm going customize her like crazy but everytime I see Hasbro make a non pink/purple pony I get really happy.

Surprise  would have been totally cool!  D:  I wonder WHY she could not keep them.  I don't get it.

I just don't get it, either.  If Hasbro doesn't have the rights, then who does?  and why would they only keep Applejack of all of the ponies?  I mean, not even Firefly?
I do remember there was some issue with trademarking Firefly because of Joss Whedon, though that was mainly to do with the show and not the toys.

I've yet to see any digital artist recommending you use pure white or pure black to colour in anything. I mean, if you're going to say Celestia is bright pink due to being a very pale shade of near white pink, then you can argue Rarity needing to be grey or Fleur de Lis to be violet :/

I'm sorry for being a total noob about other countries, but is Maccas and McD's the same thing? ^^;; Are these the 2011 G4 toys or the 2012, or something new?
Lols it's the Aussie way of calling them that, much like how it's sometimes called Mickey D's, though I heard no one in Australia calling them that.

Btw, Australia is only getting Pinkie, Dash, Rarity and Twilight so we're going to miss out on four of them :/

I'm terrible and just sprayed matte sealer on top of the default paint and painted it that way, then added more spray afterwards *cough*

Customs / Queen Chrysalis w/ temp. wings
« on: April 27, 2012, 09:49:06 AM »

Any ways, here is my Chrysalis custom painted up and all shiny. Can I just say she is IMPOSSIBLE to photograph because of how dark she is? Also her tail looks weird from any angle asides from the back, yes.

She is a molded Celestia body with a Fluttershy head, with an extended neck, and her hooves molded with milliput and had holes carved into them. The rest of the bits are also milliput and tears. I studied from the screencaps that she is indeed slightly taller than Celestia and is a head taller than Shining Armor so I used my Shining Armor as a reference. Her temporary wings are stolen from 3D glasses because I wanted a place holder for them.

She is definitely my most labour intensive, milliput laden and design complicated custom I have ever attempted and probably would not do ever again. Also her hair kept snapping off so she’s definitely fragile and such.I know that there’s already a bunch of Chrysalis customs and I’ll never match the speed or quality but hey, this was my personal project and I’m pretty chuffed at her.
I’ll take more pics when I get her proper wings done.

So here she is sanded and painted. Turns out my idea of using the box packaging failed when I tried to colour it so I stuck some 3D lenses into her back slots until I can pop out and grab actual coloured clear plastic. Haha.

Well, it seems I'm basically done, sculpting wise. Now I just need to wait til everything sets and I can sand the crap out of the sculpt. The next update will probably when I begin to paint her.

Her tail fell off so I reinforced it with more milliput and plan to stick it back on after I painted it and such.

Cadence and Irving just like hanging out on my desk.

It's a really bad angle, but I finished her tail. I tried to keep it as thin as possible without snapping the milliput. I also began working on her crown thing so woo. Also sanded her legs a bit and carved her hair a bit too and edited her horn slightly.

Chucked in Twilight and Shining Armor for a size comparison.

Thanks! I'm concerned with carving any more so hopefully the hole sizes look okay. The tail I'm worried about sculpting and making it too fragile, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I wonder if any one has made any progress on their Chrysalis customs?

And I'm debating making a Changeling custom just to go with Chrysalis but I dunno if I should.

So here is some more progress on my Chrysalis custom pony sculpt. I carved out her leg holes, sanded them a bit and filled them with milliput. I also sculpted some hair and made a base for the horn. I'll probably carve the horn and refine it some more, but yeah.

I also filled the back and make slots for her wings, and dreading on doing her tail.

Well I'm also gonna accept the "Queen challenge" because I just got commissioned for one :) . I got so excited for it that I started working on it a couple hours ago (it's 2AM now! XD ). I did some brainstorming on how to approach the legs, and came up with the closest thing to a structure with holes: swiss cheese! :lmao:

So here's a WIP pic of my first hoof done with "swiss cheese" holes done with a Dremel tool :) hope this is of help for you all!

Man, those are such great holes, I'm feeling kind of disheartened on my own one now haha. I instead decided to extend my celestia's legs with milliput and sculpt holes:

I understand I need to refine my sculpt tons and such, but it's something...

Just a note, all G4 figures have solid legs so drilling isn't much of an issue...
