Off Topic / Re: suggestions for cleaning battery compartment?

Nu-uh.

All you need is a brillo pad.  No water, just the brillo pad, and cut it to a small square and scrub away at those conductors until they're shiny.

I keep some brillo in my camera bag at all times, because I shoot with a lot of old cameras that basically run on the same sorts of batteries that most toys run on.  Every so often, they'll corrode and need a quick scrub so the light meters will boot up.

Thanks!  Going to bump, because I know there are at least a couple in the area, but they may just be a bit slow getting around to this.  ;)

And she's a Nirvana!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/My-little-Pony-German-Pony-Skydancer-other-50-ponies-for-sale-too-/360690131604?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=wj46%252BjHOwUUhYVrN3P3RGQICFeo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I accidentally forgot I was bidding with quids and not dollars, and that was the only reason I won her.  I had planned to put $30usd on her, and I really have no clue if I got her for a good price or not, but she seems to be in lovely condition and beautiful, so I'm pleased.

I kind of feel she's my first Nirvana.  I have a few Italians, like Heartthrob and Applejack, and then I have some Euro-exclusives, but this one is an alt-post, so very happy!

Okay, so, when I was here years ago, there was a seller named L11111111Y or something, but that said, I *swear* this seller is the same person.  The photos are identical, or least to my eyes.

But anyways, it was hit and miss.  She was always quick and the ponies were always clean, so I always bought.  However, I was kind of burnt of even buying ponies after I got into a ridiculous bid war over a Blueberry Baskets that she claimed was absolutely mint.

She wasn't.

I paid $80 for a Blueberry Baskets with crunchy hair and tail rust.

My most regretted pony purchase, for sure.

But if someone could confirm for me if it's the same seller or not, I would like to know.

MLP Nirvana / Re: How much does rehairing affect value?
« on: July 08, 2013, 12:33:13 AM »
My question is, if the pony is almost bald, or completely bald, how in Earth can its value be reduced because it's rehaired?

It's not like rehairs are irreversible when there is no hair to begin with.

I would rather have a pony that's been nicely rehaired, Nirvana or not, than one completely bald and looks atrocious.  Originality is always nice, but one can't always have originality, and when there are only so many examples out there, I would prefer those examples restored versus looking like post-apocalyptic ponies.

I second those who have said 'no prices'.  I once looked at a nice piece of furniture (a compactum or man-robe for those who know what one is).  I asked the lady how much she wanted for it and she told me to make her an offer.  I offered her $50 (I am a second hand dealer so I know what things are worth) and she said 'oh no, I want at least $80 for it.'  *eyeroll*  Well, why don't you put that on it then???

But if you had offered 80, she would've said $110!

Pony Corral / Gulfcoast / Florida Pony Meet? ( Brainstorming )

So, I've been hankering for a pony meet like something awful.

To start out, I'm in Pensacola, Fl.  The Southeast Pony meet is almost in reach, but still a six hour drive that would require an overnight stay at very least.  I have two cats and not really anyone to look after them but my roommate, and she would likely want to go with me, which I don't blame her!  So, I'd like to do something closer to home, and if not, I would be up to host even.  I do only live in a ( larger ) apartment, but I could manage a small meet of 5-10 people, probably.

So, I'm looking at interest or who is in the area and might be interested and throwing around some dates and seeing if something could be worked out.  :3

I just found this but, I'm thinking about it!  I'm in Pensacola, Fl, but I'm afraid I don't know too terribly many people, but as of the moment, I have so many ponies I'd like to trade or sell.  :P

As a seller...I can't STAND early birds and lowballers. My best friend and I used to do joint sales (my neighborhood banned them, hers didn't care), and we'd put NO EARLY BIRDS on the sign, and there'd still be people showing up while we were setting up...at 5:30 AM. The sign said it started at 7.

And we'd have the same people show up EVERYTIME and try to buy everything...like, "Oh how much for ALL the purses?" And we'd give a number, and they'd immediately lowball like crazy. Like we'd say $50 because there were a LOT of things and they'd go...$10. NOT KIDDING. They resell at the local swap meet on the weekends. They were really bad about the makeup I was selling (all new), and I finally said...its $20 for the whole box, I can make MORE selling the pieces individually...pay $20 OR LEAVE.

As a buyer...I hate overpriced items. I hate that they overprice things because they're "antiques". And I hate when a flier says toys and they have none.

Lowballers, ugh.  Exactly why I won't do a yardsale down where I live.  People are so freaking cheap where I live, it's asinine.

I would have new, with tags clothing out, or near new ( I'm very gentle on clothes ) and for pieces with tags and such, they'd tried to offer me .15c.  No, seriously, that cheap.  I'm like, "No, $5, or I'm taking it to the thrift store for that."

Then I had a crazy religious nut try to throw away some halloween jewelry I had for sale because it was scary and satanic.

Yard sales around here, consequently, are absolutely worthless.  It's always Christmas junk and dishware that should've been canned.

I always hope for the best and expect the worst...besides, I'd rather clean them myself in case something needs specialized work and may be ruined with "trditional" cleaning...like, things that aren't obvious to a non-pony person like not using hot water on sparkle symbols. That said, grossness is grossness and a heads-up would be nice! Lol!

Exactly!  Most people who are not into collecting, and happen upon collectibles, whether they're kids toys or what not *know this.*  They know if it's not something they specialize in, not to mess with it!  There's lots of people who I've bought dolls from that say, "Item is dirty, I don't know how to clean it, so I'm going to leave that up to the professionals!"

That's why online 'boutiques,' who specialize in certain items, get more money per item than a layman does selling a huge lot.  Hell, I depended on dirty, dingy and wrecky looking dolls, because I would turn items from being worth $20-$40 and assembling them into something worth $300 or more.

Long as it doesn't come covered in fecal matter and bugs, I'm mostly okay.  :P  I've had dolls come in smelling like vomit, however, but it wasn't vomit, thank goodness, just something called hard plastic sickness.  Kind of in league with pony cancer.

I looooove her.  I did not have her as a child, unfortunately, but she was the first perfume puff I bought when I started recollecting.  She's just an altogether lovely pony.

If only there was a perfume puff pony in Surprise pose, though!

I have, on the other hand, gotten Mint in package dolls from the 1930's to 1950's, and my issue is that I can't take them out and display them.  I have *always* sold these on, because it just doesn't work for me.  I won't remove these items because I know how rare they are, so I instead pass them onto collectors who do appreciate it and do enjoy it.

Yeah, I have this quirk too with other items I collect.

"Oooo...I want this one! It's in great shape! And it's from the 70s! And....it's still sealed. I'd feel bad opening it. I can't do this."

Yeah, I like my stuff opened, though I have no idea what I'm going to do if I cave and buy this one figure off ebay. It's SO AWESOME. But it's the only one I've seen and in box and I can't open the box gently like my anime figurines.

Sigh.

I have a couple of Transformers figures that I take in and out of the boxes.  I have a pre-TF Takara one, and he's all mint and stuff but he comes out of his box easily enough to put back and such, and then I have a reissue Silverstreak that has been in and out of his box.  But other than that, that's is for stuff in the box.  And oh, some Micromachines Starwars Xwings.  That I haven't yet found a way of getting rid of.

I've never gotten any MOC MIP ponies but for a G2 Ivy in her baggy, which yes, I did unbag her, because I'm one of those people who believe and knows that in some situations, keeping something MOC/MIP can be damaging.

Me, my dolls all sit up on the headboard of my bed.  I don't have the sort of space for display in mint in the box or the card.  Besides, I'm too touchy-feely.

I did once get a Japanese doll from the 1880's who still had her wooden box, but she had been removed from it on and off.  I did toss it, shamefully enough, knowing I shouldn't, given the rarity, but I'm extremely unlikely to sell this doll, and I don't have the space to store wooden storage crates. . .  It's bad enough I have a Geisha's wig in a wooden storage box that I want rid of and can't seem to find a buyer for.
