Well for me, large collection would be around the 200 mark, so I'd probably set them up in a room all on shelves, grab a chair and grin stupidly for a couple of hours observing the pony goodness, occasionally wandering around and viewing them all close-up.
I figure if the idea of 200 leaves me with that kind of euphoria I don't think I could handle myself with 2000.

First thing to note is that if you have low or no selling feedback, eBay will hold your money for a maximum of 21 days, including postage... so if you want the money quick, it might not be your best option I'll leave the rest for the more seasoned traders

actually, if you look at the screen caps on the first page again, the prices are listed. The castle play set translates into about $59.22 USD ;P So almost twice that, unfortunately :\
The prices on the first page seem marked up for Germany. I definitely think they will be cheaper for the US. Example: US singles are $5, Germany ones are above $11 last I heard

I think I've seen a few shops that still have 3.5 stuff, but even fewer that have these... although the Big W near me seemed to have a lot of 3.5 stuff left, so I would check there. I can't remember whether this includes the newborn cuties tho.

Scalpers are the bane of my existence. Every time I go to Ebay, rage ensues. I have even thought about giving up on collecting all together because of not being able to find the dolls.v Mattel's poor distribution plus the scalpers is ridiculous.
I would never pay 30+ bucks for a doll that is supposed to be out on shelves. In some countries, a single signature doll is retail $30 though...  I understand what you mean by the more extreme mark-ups though.

Holt Hyde is everywhere in stores around here, but retail is $30... plus shipping is rather expensive too. But if you can't find any better options I'm happy to help out

I managed to grab Spectra's fashion pack today, but it looks like the Kmart I went to, even though it had restocked recently, cleared out very fast. The signature range was pretty much untouched while there was one SS Ghoulia there and only Toralei's and Cleo's fashion packs left after I took mine...
Not sure about grabbing the Frankie outfit, as it seems too much like all the other ones released for her, and Toralei's seems just like a shirt, a skirt, new shoes and another bandanna... nothing really that great. I'm borderline on Cleo's outfit - although it looks prettier in person, it's still quite gaudy with all the gold... I know I'll end up getting it tho haha

Maybe if you just deep conditioned it (left conditioner in overnight) and then rinsed the conditioner out that would help with those fly-aways a bit? It normally does for normal hair, and usually helps a bit for me with tinsel as well.
