Volume 7 is still out of stock at the store where I buy my manga.

Ponyfan

I'm seriously considering ebay. If the sellers there didn't have such awful feedback, I'd probably have done it already, but I don't want to support their lack of customer service!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Vintage toys with asbestos in them?
« on: January 04, 2018, 07:16:31 PM »
We have asbestos in our front yard. In fact the whole hill I live on, which features houses that demand upwards of $1000p/w rent, used to be an asbestos dumping ground. There were guys in white hazmat suits with fire hoses next door to us last year when they put down the foundations on the new house there last year. It's bad if you breathe it, but it's honestly not that hard not to breathe it in, because it takes a fair bit of disturbance to make it airbourne to begin with. Cutting it up, or breaking sheets of it, or digging it up as dust are really all you need to worry about, unless you're eating it. Toys aren't really a problem for adult collectors, just wash your hands afterwards like you would with any vintage toy.

Yep, Gelly Roll all the way. Sakura pens are amazing, I'm in love with their metallic pentouch fineliners at the moment, they're so shiny!!

Symbols are open to interpretation, draw them in your own style, however you like.. they don't even have to be TAF if you don't want them to be.

Species:
Pegasus

Pose 1(Sapphire Rain, Milky Way) or 2(Peach Surprise, Strawberry Swirl)?: Pose 2 please!

Ooohhh I'm excited for these! I hope they come out here, our Target is a different company, but we occasionally get Target exclusive stuff :/

I LOVE that they fixed the eyes and the pink hair. Both bothered me so much that I never ended up picking up the two previous anniversary sets - the eyes were all so small and beady, and they just ruined the whole thing for me! These ones are gorgeous. If I see them I'll definitely pick them up, even though they'll probably be more expensive here.

This in NOT pony related, so please move if this isn't the appropriate place to post this.

Next month is 10 years since I started dating my now-husband. I'm wanting to commission a painting/drawing to illustrate the story of how we first met. The scene I'm imagining is of two teenage girls, both riding bay horses, and a guy standing beside them.

I'm thinking the picture needs to be vague in it's details, to match the story, as the story doesn't reveal who it's about until almost at the end, you have to know the story to know what's coming. No faces clearly visible or detailed, but the colours and emotions are vibrant in the story. (at least I hope that's how it comes across!)

I'm asking here, because pony peeps for the most part know horse anatomy fairly well.

If anyone would like to have a crack at it, I'm happy to provide ref pics of elements of the story, or even just describe things if that helps it remain vague and unspecific. This is a commission, something I'm wanting to pay for, as I'd ideally like to have a digital copy that I can have printed any which way I end up deciding on, as I'm as yet unsure how I'd like to present the story and picture. I have a few ideas, but I'm still hashing it out, despite it being next month. eek!

Here's the story in case that helps anyone put their hand up:
Spoiler
Many years ago, in a sleepy little town, at about this approximate time on a warm Autumn morning, a teenage girl rode a bay mare toward the showground gate. Her friend, upon seeing her, called out to them, and cantered up from the opposite direction, riding a bay gelding. The girls chatted as they rode the horses through the gate and towards the group that had gathered under the trees. It was sign up day for the local pony club, and the club’s administrative members milled around, busily handing out paperwork and accepting membership fees, while the riders saddled and warmed up around the outside of the arena. Parents trudged around four-wheel drives and horse floats, calling after their children and chatting amongst themselves.

Seeing the two girls approach, the pony club’s treasurer approached them, papers in hand. The girls, both being long-term members of the club, greeted the treasurer warmly, and accepted the papers on horseback, knowing that holding them wasn’t going to be an issue with the mounts they rode that day.
“Mum’s got my fees, here she comes now,” the younger girl, mounted on the gelding, cheerfully told the treasurer, gesturing to two people coming through the gate.
“Mine are in my backpack, but I’m gonna have to jump off to fill this out” the other girl lamented as she swung her small purple backpack around onto the pommel of her saddle, rummaging through the contents one-handedly, her other hand clutching the mare’s reins.
“That’s what he’s for!” laughed the girl as she pointed towards where her mother approached on foot, at a tall young man walking at her side.
“That’s what big brothers are for, right bro?” she called to him as they walked up towards the two horses. The young man laughed, and reached up to stroke the gelding’s face, running his fingers over the large star on the centre of his forehead.
“Come here and turn around so I can write on your back!” demanded his sister laughingly. The older girl, after passing her friend a pen from her backpack, re-zipped it and swung it back on, ready to dismount to fill out her own paperwork.
“Don’t get off, you can use him too” proclaimed her friend just as she’d slid her feet from her stirrups. The man laughed, his blue eyes betraying the slightest hint of hesitation. He shrugged slightly, seemingly fine with the prospect of being written on by a girl he’d never met before, and walked into the space between the two horses, his moment of hesitation passing as quickly as it had appeared. The older girl laughed and took the pen back from her friend, finding the whole situation rather convenient, but not in the least awkward. With her outgoing friend this sort of thing was the norm. Besides, he was just her friend’s brother, and while he was kind of cute, she already had a boyfriend. She leaned down and filled out the paperwork quickly, trying to write gently, and thanked her ‘desk’ as she pulled her backpack back around onto her lap to put her pen away.

“I suppose I should probably introduce you, huh?” the younger girl said jokingy.
“Storm, this is my brother Christian.”

To this day, the man claims he knew that day that the girl on the bay mare would be his someday. Almost a year later, on the 4th February, 2008, the girl went out on a date with him, and as they say, the rest is history. Today marks ten years since that first date, almost eleven since that very first fateful meeting when a girl on a horse used a guy as a writing surface, and their fates intertwined forever.

Also story critique is completely welcome! Have at it!

Awesome haul! That box art is awesome, shame it's most likely stolen.. I'd love to know the artist, their style is cute! I adore the stickers too, so cute.

I love the fakie plushies, they're actually quite nice - I have Cadence and Shiny, and Big Mac and Octavia, because they were in a skill tester near my MIL's place for a while and whenever we visited her we'd buy her groceries and hubby would get me a pony, haha!

Both my Concerned ponies came from Asian markets, where lots of fake toy lines were sold. Fake toys everywhere - it was awesome to see!

Here's some of my newbies:

90% of the time I avoid it like the plague. I've legit been quoted $50 to ship 6 MLP ribbons from the US to Australia via GSP! $50!!! They'd fit in a standard letter envelope for a few bucks! Not to mention our customs fee threshold is pretty high, (like $1000 I'm pretty sure) so it's rare to even get hit with customs fees, so why should I be paying them?!

If something is super heavy or large, but not hugely valuable, then I'll GSP it, just because it is cheaper somehow (probably because they're ripping people off on the smaller packages!). I've done this a handful of times with no issues yet, because usually the item is so big that they open it and just close it again, because it can't be re-packed, and is pretty durable. Otherwise, I see that little message that means GSP on the search result listing and don't even click on the item listing. I don't even tempt myself. Not worth the potential drama - they'd definitely be damaged, considering the big boxes I've had delivered through them were pretty seriously battered.

Third-party shippers are definitely a better option for those that buy lots of stuff in a particular country.

^^ THIS. Yes, they agreed to the shipping price, because that sounded appropriate for an adequately packaged box, more so when they threw extra in.

When the item arrives, they skimped out of the shipping method (much smaller box, items crammed in) to save themselves the money and pocket the extra (what they should have spent). This irks me so much. I agree to a shipping price, yes. But I expect it to be shipped in a way that reflects that value!! If it's free shipping, and it's crammed in, well my bad. But if I pay what should be a large box with room for my items, then that's what I expect to arrive. Obvious shipping overages, yes, I'll avoid them like the plague. But when something sounds reasonable, I expect it to be shipped properly - and that to me is a much bigger deception.

I know plushies are supposed to be 'surface wash only' but I'm terrified of germs and grossness lurking in the stuffing of 2nd hand plushies, so I'm firmly in the 'wash them completely' camp! I pop them in a pillowcase, tie off the end (to protect the eyes) and pop them in the machine on 'delicate' or 'hand wash' with some fabric softener and an antibacterial detergent or some baking soda. These cycles don't usually have a spin cycle, and only tumble them slowly and gently, so they get a thorough wash, but aren't treated roughly. After they come out of the machine, I pop either some extra fabric softener or some conditioner in the hair and give it a gentle brush out. They then get a final rinse off to remove any product left on them, and put the plush out to dry in the shade on my balcony for a few days at least - you want them to be thoroughly dry before they come inside!

I'm a bit of a vintage fakie nut, and so when these guys popped up on the Aussie MLP sale page on Facebook, I was definitely interested! I picked them up this morning, and spa day is underway. I couldn't wait to post a pic of the Simbas though... At the moment they're drying after having their hair washed:

The second batch has three of the giant cabbage patch style fakies, one of the babies, a vintage Lanard set, and a Princess Rinse 'n Spit! I can't wait to get them all clean and pretty, I'm super excited to see how they'll turn out.. not quite finished with them, there are some remco fakies and the giant cabbage patch girls still pending photos!

Damn... that's a keeper right there! I've had my man 10 years, and he recognises 3 of the mane 6!

..although he does collect Dr. Whooves stuff now after I dragged him to Ponycon last year, so he's a work in progress I guess.
