Ok, first a couple movie ponies.  The first one is based off Regan from the Exorcist.  It was one of those g2 ponies where the head spins when you move the tail knob.  It always reminded me of the scene in the Exorcist where the girl's head spins all the way around, so customizing her into an exorcist pony made sense to me.  She's been re-haired with several different color of dollyhair and sculpted with apoxiescuplt.  An unfortunate dog-chewing incident caused me to have to re-sculpt her entire back end and glue the head spinning mechanism back together, but in the end, I think she turned out all right.

The second one is based off of Jareth from Labyrinth (aka David Bowie!).  Originally a pony bride, sculpted with apoxiescuplt and painted with acrylics.

Finally, I've always had a fascination with Sea Dragons, so when I came across a sea pony bait, it seemed like an interesting idea to try. Once again, sculpted with apoxiesculpt and painted with acrylic.  I used some fake seaweed from Michael's for the leafy bits.  He is removable from the base, but doesn't stand too well on his own.  The base is made with plywood, floral wire, fake seaweed, shells and pretty rocks I found along Lake Superior.

Customs / Re: So...sculpting clothes and air dry clay
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:26:40 PM »
Most air dry clay doesn't work well for sculpting over ponies because it shrinks as it dries.  So it ends up cracking all over the place because it's no longer big enough to encase the pony, if that makes any sense.  Plus it's very brittle and breaks easily.  Apoxiescuplt is really the only clay I know of that doesn't require baking and works well for ponies.

Customs / Re: Post your personal customizing horror stories!
« on: June 20, 2013, 08:17:57 PM »
I don't collect g2's, but somehow received one in a lot.  It was one that, if you turned a knob on the tail, the head would spin around completely.  It always reminded me of the Exorcist, so I kept it around.  Recently, I decided to actually customize it based on the possessed girl in the Exorcist.  Everything was going well on it, and I was 90% finished when suddenly I couldn't find it on the coffee table where I left it.  My heart sank as I realized there was only one other possibility...perhaps my adorably fluffy husky mix Nessie decided to adopt her as a chew toy.  Which would be a bit surprising, considering that I had left boxes of ponies on the floor before without her taking the slightest interest in them, but I've learned to never underestimate her.  So, I go upstairs, and sure enough, there she is happily chewing out the pony's butt while all of my sculpting lies in tiny pieces all over the bed.  The thing that holds the head on and enables it to turn, was, of course, broke.  I almost cried.  After regaining my composure, I went to work re-assembling her.  I glued the head part back on, and while it doesn't work as well as it should, it works somewhat.  Everything else was re-scuplted/painted.  The knob that you tuned and that encased the tail was chewed beyond recognition, but I was able to replace it with a couple skull beads.  Overall, she turned out all right, considering the circumstances.  But I'll never forget that moment of horror when I found her in Nessie's mouth and pieces all over the bed...I think maybe there was some sort of demonic conspiracy involved ;).

Pony Corral / Kind of a weird price check- NM Medly that won't stand
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:20:26 PM »
Ok, so I have this Medly, and she's almost perfect.  No visible flaws, beautiful hair, and perfect symbols, I've never seen one this nice before.  However, she absolutely will not stand up.  It seems like the two legs on one side are somehow longer than the leg on the other side.  I've tried things like putting a pen between the back legs, but all to no avail.  I don't think she's ever going to stand on her own.  Taking that into consideration, and the fact that she'd otherwise be mint, how would one price such a pony?

Customs / Ia! Ia! Cthulu Pontagn! (2 Cthulu Ponies!)
« on: June 14, 2013, 06:49:22 PM »
I've done two Cthulu ponies.  The first one I did a while ago, but never got around to posting it on here.  I made him specifically as a birthday present for a friend, using an old Peachy, wires, mesh, apoxiescuplt and acrylic paint.

Cthulu pony the second I just finished recently.  He's made from a styling pony, so he's bigger and more impressive.  I used the same materials on him, except for tentacles, I used perm rods, those bendy curlers you get get at Sally's.  With apoxie scuplted over them, of course.  This helped me cut back on the amount of apoxie needed, and it seemed to work out pretty well.  I'm very happy with how he turned out, and he's definitely coming along to the pony fair in July.

MLP Nirvana / Price check on several Nirvanas
« on: June 06, 2013, 01:05:24 PM »
I'm considering bringing some of these ponies to the fair to sell, but I'd like to get an idea of what they're going for, since I've been out of the pony loop for a while.  I've listed major flaws, the ones without descriptions are about average, may have some minor marks/wear.  Any help on pricing them would be much appreciated!

Argentina collector's pose Lickety-Split (lots of wear, re-haired)
Argentina baby Butterscotch (baby CC pose, may have minor haircut)
Brazil Twist (small chew mark on tip of one foot and tip of ear)
Argentina Glory (pink w/ purple hair)
Argentina Gusty (unicorn with neon green hair)
Macau Blossomscotch
Greek Firefly (orange w/ magenta/purple hair, mint with original packaging)
Dutch baby Schoolbag (near mint)

Customs / Attack of the Godzilla Pony!
« on: June 06, 2013, 12:48:39 PM »
I've always been a big fan of old Japanese monster movies, and had it in the back of my head that someday I would do a Godzilla pony.  The upcoming fair finally gave me motivation to actually do it!  I used a g3 rearing pose, as I think that's the only way to go, since Godzilla is bipedal.  Otherwise, he is sculpted entirely with apoxie sculpt and painted with acrylics.  Let me know what you think!

I always thought these guy were so cute, but I didn't really care for the diaper, so I sanded it off and re-sculpted their backsides.  Then they all got a re-hair and full body repaint.  They are done in the style of g1 taf's Sugarberry, Dancing Butterflies, and Nightglider.  I find them much cuter this way!

Customs / Re: Cyborg Pinkie Pie, a Sing & Dance Custom!

I don't know why I hadn't thought of just putting a video on youtube.  So, here it is, the long awaited video of Pinkie Pie in action!

I've always been kinda freaked out by the sing & dance Pinkie Pie.  Something about the way it moves its head and mouth is disconcerting.  So when I found one at a thrift store for $3, the natural course of action was to make it even more disturbing.  I wanted to give it a look like an old robot that's been sitting in the rain and rusting for many years, yet is somehow still functional.  I painted her base coat in silver and then used an antiquing set to give her the rusty look.  I cut out some holes in her body, to look like places where the metal had rusted away.  They also reveal some of her inner mechanics, to which I added some computer chips and wires to give her more of that robotic feel.  I did intentionally leave some pink, just to show her former glory.  Most importantly, she's still fully functional.  Really, though, she's much creepier when she's talking and singing (and she never shuts up!).  Unfortunately I don't think I can post a video at the arena.  I will be bringing her to the fair, however, for everyone's enjoyment/terror.

***Edit- here she is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvo2cb5DkN0&feature=youtu.be

Customs / Baby brothers with accessories! Barnacle, Chief & Wigwam.

I sculpted these guy's feet with apoxiescuplt and then gave them full body repaints and rehairs.  Here they are naked.

But of course, they needed accessories like their dads!  So I sewed up some bandannas for them, and made their hats with sculpy bake n' bend.

Thanks everyone!  They've gotten almost 300 shares since I posted them on Clive Barker's facebook yesterday.  They even got a like from the man himself!  I'm super stoked!  Now, back to creating more horrifying creatures.  Next up- Cthulu styling pony!

BlackCurtains- Maybe!  Depends on if I have time or not before the pony fair, there's a lot of other things I want to do before that.
