Pony Corral / Re: Curse you eBay snipers!!!

Ugh! Yes!!!

There's the whole Max Bid thing that can totally get you. These days it's less about playing the game and more about what your what you're ultimately willing to spend.

Fooey.

Uhm... it's always been about how much you're willing to spend ;) That's the point...

My top tip: always enter your absolute MAX BID you're willing to pay. Ebay will bid up for you in increments anyway, so that way you'll never feel bad if someone puts in a late bid- they'll only win if they're willing to pay more than you. This personally really helps me to feel better if I lose an auction.

And I'll admit it, I snipe everything. No point in driving up the price! I do it manually when I can be at the computer, otherwise I use a programme, which is available to everybody so that's fair.

Just remember: you don't lose because they put in their bid later. They win because they want to spend more than you.

Thanks again for your replies!

ClosetAvalance, I understood what you meant but I've always thought that was in case I was not happy with it- which I'm not, but you know, that's because it's the wrong item :P Perhaps I've understood that wrong. And I don't mean he has to send me a free new item, I want to pay for it! As long as he pays shipping.

Ringlets thank you :)

Well, I'm just going to wait to see what the seller says to my proposal. I've made up my mind I will not send it back since the only way for me to be secure is registered shipping and that will mean I am out of money and since the original amount was so small it's just not worth it. How the seller replies will also determine what feedback I'll leave.

UPDATE:

Wow, this is even better than what I thought- they are dispatching a new one to me at no cost and told me to keep this one too. Super nice and if the right one does arrive of course I'll leave glowing feedback because that is wonderful. I believe the seller is actually a business with more than one person working there and the first person who responded didn't read my first message correctly :P

Thanks for your input guys! Eskara, if it does not work out I'll contact you for Pinkie because I've bought from you before and know I'll get the right thing LOL!

ClosetAvalanche, I really do not think I should be out money for a mistake the seller made... but I am afraid he will decide not to refund me and I will be out of close to 20 euro altogether and nothing to show for it. So.... yeah I'm reluctant to ship back without having any certainty about whether or not I'll be refunded. Especially as the seller has stated they do not refund registered shipping, so I would have no proof, or if I did send registered for my own sake I'd be out even more money  :whoa:

I send them my proposal, I hope they go for it.

Just wanted to see what others think or maybe have some good advice.

I BIN'ed a MIB G4 pony on Ebay. Got it this week- wrong one. I bought original Pinkie Pie but received the one with the suitcase (which I just as easily could have bought in stores here... awesome). I let the seller know and they suggested I return it after which they will evaluate if the item is 'faulty' and if they will refund my postage and send me another one or refund me altogether.

Well, that's great, but Dutch mail (as many of you know) is insane and returning it would cost more than the pony&postage cost me... bit ridiculous if you ask me, it would mean the seller has a loss too if he has to reimburse me for shipping and ship the correct one to me...

So.... I want to suggest that I keep this one, and that he sends me the correct one which I will pay for while he pays shipping. What do you think? Reasonable suggestion?

The thing on the left is a hair clip, I've never seen another one of those I have to say. My mom bought it for me when I was little :)

Oh no!! My tracking shows that the package was refused and is being returned? I really hope this is not true, how strange is that?

You could take a look here: http://moonbreeze.weebly.com/specials.html. Moonbreeze is a member here with a complete G2 collection and lots of photos on her website, I'm sure she wouldn't mind me promoting it. There is the oddball White Pearl variant, which I love because I found her on a market and she was previously undiscovered! I gave her to Moonbreeze as a gift because she's my best pony pal ;)

Hi!

I've been wanting to restore my Peru Parasol for a while, the poor thing barely has eyes. So I hope someone can share a pic which clearly show the eyes so that I (well- my husband, really, I have two left hands and he's a good painter, he does Warhammer) can fix them. It would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, that's exciting! I'll direct Moonbreeze over here, she's pretty knowledgeable about G2 ;) maybe she knows something.

Pony Corral / Re: G3 Market Collapse
« on: October 19, 2012, 12:43:38 PM »
I think there are a couple different factors behind the low market value of G3s.

1.  The Core Seven.  Who remembers this?  Going into the toy aisle and just seeing the same seven ponies, ooooover and oooover and ooooover.  It was worse than the current re-releases because it wasn't just "not very many other characters", it was literally NO OTHER CHARACTERS.  It was around this time that I began to see an exodus of collectors from the community, or people going into "sleep mode."  "I don't bother checking the toy aisle any more, what's the point?"  "I'm just not excited about ponies any more."  The G3 ponies who had been released previously became tarred with the same brush as the Bore Seven;  people were less excited about G3s in general.

It was also at this point that G3 prices began to nosedive.  I do not think the dip in prices had much to do with G4s.  Long before G4 came out, I had a rather extensive sales thread where I was STRUGGLING to sell absolutely mint G3s for $2 each.  Two dollars!!

2.  Okay, but that wasn't the only reason.  There was also Pony Fatigue.  I hated the Core 7 for erasing all but seven characters.  I am not happy with the lack of new brushables in the current line.  But there was a time when many collectors were completely overwhelmed with the continuous onslaught of new G3s.  It was almost impossible to keep up and very, very expensive to buy them all, if you were a completionist.  In addition, some ponies were kind of generically similar (especially in the Crystal Princess line).  Like, "pink + purple + flower", you know.

So, I saw some people burn out from that.  They were just tired of trying to keep up. This leads me to my next point . . .

3.  Lack of emotional attachment.  The toys we had as kids we played with and loved.  Toys we want as collectors we usually have to search for, which is exciting.  Going into a store and buying six new ponies all at once is not really exciting and, in my opinion, can become more of "just a goal" rather than a toy.  What I mean is . . . it's all about the acquisition, not about enjoying what you acquire.  When the glamour wears off, you're left with a lot of things you don't want, at just the point when a lot of OTHER people discover they, too, have acquired a lot of things they don't want.  They all go for sale at once and doooown goes the value.

Within a few years, we will see the market for G3s re-emerge, as the kids who played with them hit that "nostalgia stage."  It really is different if you grew up with something rather than collecting it later.  But for now, there is just not much demand.

(I also think G3s are hurt by a more limited palette of colors compared to G1 and G2.)

Excellent post- if this was Facebook I would have liked it ;)

I do think the value of G3 will go up again- at least for some ponies, pre Core 7 definitely- but it will not be anytime soon, nor do I think they'll reach the prices of the higher end G1s. The fact that there is a large online community with lots of information since the line started has got a LOT to do with that. There are likely many more mint/boxed G3s available because of collectors.
