Customs / My Little Ravenstag (Hannibal)
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:49:57 AM »
Just in time for the second season, I present to you the Hannibal pony that I've been working on since before last season ended. This was a gift for Cleolinda, recapper, pop culture blogger, and the person who coined the name "Dire Ravenstag."

For those of you not familiar with the show, the ravenstag is a recurring nightmare/hallucination that haunts FBI profiler Will Graham, inspired by a combination of images from a crime scene in the first episode. As the name implies, it's a black stag with feathers instead of fur, and it's a symbol of the danger Will's subconscious knows he's in.

I said feathers, right? Because there are feathers. Lots of them. I don't know how many; I lost count.

Feathers everywhere.

And antlers. Really awesome antlers.

And he has friends! Well, sort of friends. He has Will's dog Winston, who is a repainted Schleich figure, and a brain raccoon, which is a joke that originated in Cleo's recaps.

I have been working on this guy for nine months and finished him just in time to have him arrive at his destination the day before the season premiere. I'm thrilled with him, Cleo is thrilled with him, and the people she's been showimg him off to on various social media platforms are thrilled with him. Not a bad job, I'd say!

Pony Corral / Re: Who played the role of the males in your childhood herd?

None of 'em. My all-female herd had everything under control and they didn't need any boys cramping their style.

I love the poses on the jellybean toppers. Except for Pinkie, who appears to be gesturing at something and going "What am I looking at?"

Funnily enough, after I had finished inking this piece I suddenly realized that the only G3 in the entire image is the Ponyville Minty next to the two G4 minis.

Ah, so that's what that is! It was the only thing I couldn't work out.

There's a lot to love in this picture, but I want to give special praise to the way you nailed the relative scale of the toys.

I just got that carving set for Christmas! Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm quite excited to open it up and play.

That Periwinkle is gorgeous; the gem symbol looks almost factory! And I love the personality in her eyes. She looks oddly like one of my cousins, actually.

Customs / Re: Is there a learning curve with Apoxie Sculpt?
« on: December 06, 2013, 08:40:39 PM »
Depends on what you're trying to do. You can make removable bits with Apoxie Sculpt -- a layer of plastic wrap and/or petroleum jelly will prevent it from sticking to the pony while you're sculpting -- but as there is no flexibility to it once it's cured you have to design something that can slip on and off the pony without bending. With a hat, that will mostly mean being mindful of the size and shape of the earholes and always making sure that the bottom of every opening is its widest part.

I know that thickness matters with oven-bake clays, but does Apoxie Sculpt tend to cure fine regardless to how thick it is?

Apoxie's curing is entirely an "internal" chemical reaction and it will cure under pretty much any condition (although I think temperature may affect the curing time to a small degree?). You can leave it underwater and it'll still cure just as hard.

It's a REVIEW which puts it under the section of commentary as well as parody of fair use which protects my first amendment right to critique without the creator trying to censor my possibly negative opinion using copyright claims.

If I have misread your particular situation then I apologize.

I've disputed the claim on grounds of fair use, so we'll have to see what comes of it.

Putting a movie you don't own on Youtube is not fair use. "Fair use" is showing a short clip from a movie as part of a film review. "Fair use" is writing an academic paper about a book and including excerpts from the book to illustrate your point. Stop trying to justify your copyright violations with terms you clearly have no understanding of.

I don't even know.  I may write them a letter.

What, exactly, would that letter say? "I don't understand why you stopped me from doing something that is explicitly against both the law and the Terms of Service that I agreed to when signing up for Youtube"? You did something wrong and you got caught. Deal.

Remember the G3 Core 7 set with inspirational words printed down the legs? I'd like to see something like that, but with their Elements printed in appropriate colors and fonts.

They have a very different definition of 'empowering' than the rest of us. Also of 'new' and 'unique.'
