I always just hold the doll's head/neck in place with one hand and, with the other, use a pair of pliers to yank the tie right out. That usually works, but if it doesn't, you just get something small and flat (like an eyebrow plucker) and keep pushing down on the tie until it disappears into the doll's head. I wouldn't recommend cutting, you risk getting some of the doll's hair that way and you won't be able to get it short enough that those ties won't occasionally pinch your fingers when you're handling the toy.

In Friendship is Magic there's such things as 'hay burgers' and 'hay fries'. :wonder: Are potatoes bad for horses/ponies? I understand why they would use hay as a substitute for meat... but french fries???

With the heavy disclaimer that I have never owned/kept horses, yes, I believe so. The high amounts of starch are quite bad for their physiology and if the potato is even slightly green, they can be poisoned. So in this case, the hay fries actually make sense. :nerdy:

Oh good, i wasn't sure which pony content's story I was clicking into...

No I can't imagine what sort of horrible person puts excrement into a toy, or anywhere else it doesn't belong.  Not just because it's an awful thing to even conceive of doing but...how disgusting it would be to carry out, apparently cackling evilly all the while in anticipation of the misery and surprise of some hapless unknown victim in the future.

If it helps any, I think it could've been placed there by a small child thinking it was funny or even wanting to hide a "little accident" or something like that. Still gross, of course, but a bit less...heinous, imo. The only issue with this theory is that a child might have trouble getting a pony's head off and then back on, but who knows?

I would never shelf my feelings for her. She's way too special for that. If it were any other doll in her shape though I likely wouldn't even bother. But since it's her I don't care, we can make this work. Her wear and tear came from us dancing and spinning together, playing dress up, lots of hugs, and being carried around. Her eyebrow was bad luck. When my mom moved while I was at college some of my things were unfortunately lost or damaged in the mood. She had green and yellow paint melted into her face and removing that did unfortunately take some brow with it.

I don't really know too much about her origins honestly. I've had her since before I can remember. It doesn't seem to be something I will be able to track down either. The extend of what I know about her is here with pictures of course lol. I'm about half way through filling in her scalp now.

Since you expressed interest I'll throw her progress so far into a spoiler :)

Unfortunately I can't seem to find anything on her either. : [ Her face looks Madame Alexander-ish to me but I'm probably dead wrong since child dolls aren't really my area of expertise. You're doing great work on her, though, her hair is already looking much better! Curious, are you creating new holes so she can have more plugs of hair rather than the............rather distinctive rooting pattern she had before?

Stinks about the eyebrow. Luckily, hers look pretty simple, so it shouldn't be too hard to simply redo.

Oh man, I'm super sorry this is happening. =/ Don't lose heart, if none of your boxes have holes in them there's little chance that they just got left behind, and they'll probably turn up when you least expect it.

I definitely wouldn't call her "the poor man's Nightglider" (never seen that before, anyway); I don't have Nightglider myself (one day..), but from what I've seen they're totally different, not even the same shade of blue.

That actually brings up a really good point. I don't think I've ever seen the two next to each other; I wonder if anyone has direct comparison pics. I'd be curious to see how the colors actually match up in reality.

I don't like the 2nd set of Princess ponies.  The tinsel topknot is weird and their symbols are just random geometric shapes instead recognizable objects.

I'm with you on the hair. Tinsel in doll hair in general is one of my biggest pet peeves. The stuff takes about two seconds to crinkle irreversibly and then it just sticks out every which way and makes the doll look unkempt no matter how meticulous you are and argh. It makes me *frumple*.

oh man I am dating myself

anybody remember gorgeous creatures??  What were those toy makers were smokin' back then... anyhow yeah I look at that now and think of Howard Stern's "but her face" comments

that dog-doll kinda reminded me

I'm too young to have experienced these firsthand, but I've seen pictures of them before! I oddly sort of like them. I appreciate how...buxom they are, LOL

I think a more direct ancestor to Pinkie Cooper might be Peteena Poodle.

I like her and kind of want one, but not for the amount of money she generally sells for these days. If I found her in a yard sale I definitely wouldn't pass her up though!

I have a doll from when I was a kid. She has a cloth body that's disintegrating, she's lost both her arms and her head is only half attached. Her legs have a ton of pen and highlighter on them it looks like, fingers have turned grey. Oh and she has huge bald spots, and one of her eyebrows is partly missing. Love her to pieces though. I think that covers them all lol? She's getting a lot of work put into her to fix her up because I love her so much.

I know that feeling. It's hard to put away your feelings for childhood toys if you have that special bond with them, no matter how grubby they start to get -- and in my opinion, you shouldn't feel obligated to shelve those feelings, anyways. c: I'm sure she's beautiful to you and I'd be interested in seeing her restored. Do you know what kind of doll she is?

I've heard a lot of people here basically say she's like the poor man's Night Glider. Unfortunate, really -- she's pretty cute if you get past that association.

Personally, I wish yellow wasn't her dominant hair color, and that her boats looked a little less like weird folded-up paper, but I can't deny there's something to her. She looks like a sunny, clear day -- perfect for sailing!

Pony Corral / Re: Pony population poll 2: what gens do you collect?
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:41:02 AM »
For now I'm only collecting G1s, but I'm probably a bit atypical since I wasn't born when they first came out and only got into collecting MLP in the first place due to seeing G1s on sale at a convention and being surprised by how pretty and high-quality they were. G3s, especially customized ones, aren't out of the question if I see one that really piques my interest, but they're not quite the same to me and I'm not going out of my way to find them.

Oddly, even though my few childhood ponies were G2s, I have no particular sentimental attachment to them at all (though I do think their eyes are very pretty).

I think she's beautiful -- not too simple at all! I like how her accents of green keep her from being too samey.

That is so much cooler than the spider nest I found in mine.

Nightmares for weeks. Thank you.

I want to ask more, but also I don't...

Wow, she cleaned up beautifully! Surprising that underneath that grime she was actually so nice.

Be sure to show us pics of Night Glider when she's all clean! You're really lucky.

Also, if you do debox Harry, tell us how nice his flocking feels. :P

It depends on what you want! Are you looking for something mythical? Silly? MLP-inspired?
