Haven't seen anyone mention these? Aussies come get your G1 bedding (from Spotlight):

https://www.spotlightstores.com/kids/kids-bedroom/kids-quilt-covers/my-little-pony-dreams-quilt-cover-set/BP80558761-pink

The image is too much of a hassle for me to link. Also has other things, like a fitted sheet set and a throw blanket. No international shipping unfortunately. It's too bad, it's really cute. I like the quilt's other side.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Question about Breyers? Arctic Grandeur
« on: October 28, 2021, 03:57:33 PM »
I bought this year's Holiday Horse from the official Breyer site along with some other things. The other things arrived, but NOT the model horse I spent $60 on. I've never bought Breyers online before, so I don't know how their site operates or what the deal is with how they ship things, especially things that are more "limited" like this. I ordered him the night he came out, it said he was on "backorder". Not "sold out" just "backorder". Not sure what that means, but they did ship him out with my other things.

Allegedly.

The receipt says everything was shipped on the same day, and has been "fulfilled", and that the horse has been delivered. It was not.

Posting here since it's horse adjacent and there doesn't seem to be very many active Breyer communities? Plus, I'm not really a *Breyer* collector. I do like them, but not enough to go onto a dedicated forum to ask about it. I sent an email to them, which on the "Contact Us" page says they respond within one business day. Well, it's been about one business week! Do they usually take this long to respond? Should I send them another email?!

Is Arctic Grandeur even out? Does anyone else have him?! I have the pin, but not the actual horse...?

Never noticed the orange in her hair before. That makes her only slightly more interesting.

Pass. 2007 onward white ponies with pink and purple hair are a dime a dozen. Sweetie Belle, Cute Curtsey, Sweet Sparkle, so on and so forth. She doesn't do anything groundbreaking and she's in a boring pose. Worst of all, she's not even Halloween-y!

The alternative to "The 2007+ White Pony with Pink and Purple Hair" is "The 2007+ Pony with Purple Body and Pink Hair" which her partner in crime Lovely Ladybug is. I'm sure she's close behind Fun Fairy for POTD. ;)

Pony Corral / Re: Opinion on unicorn horns?
« on: October 27, 2021, 02:40:07 PM »
I have no strong opinions on unicorn horns other than G4's were too stubby.

However...

In G5 it seems like the horns are on TOP of the head rather than on the forehead, which bothers me. A bit hard to tell on Izzy because of her bangs (it's hard to call it a forelock when there's so much), but it's very obvious on Alphabittle.

Right between the ears. I don't like it at all.

But maybe it's just a problem with Alphabittle? Don't feel like skimming through the movie to get profile views of background ponies, but the other unicorns don't seem to be as extreme. Would still prefer it to be further down.

The first comic is out!
Spoiler
I didn't like it at all.

Sorry to hear it. How come?

I haven't read it myself (yet?), but from the sounds of it, it's not very G1-y. :P The Witches aren't really witches but are apparently ponies banished to the EQG world or something? The G1 ponies haven't showed up at all yet...

Customs / Re: Using new G5s as bait

Right now, I'm not sure any of these would be considered "rare". I've accumulated 5 Sunnys so far, not including my 6" styling size. I wouldn't touch non-Mane 5s such as Haven or Shutter Snap though.

@Minty Magic, I'm trying to remember from the G2 comics (which I mostly no longer have) whether the G2 ponies had a lot of magic, but I think they did have some. But MLP tales also did not have magic and referenced in at least one episode an incident that was pseudomediaeval with a knight (Squire) and a dragon...which sounds a lot more like old G1.

I'm not sure about G3.

G3 didn't really have any magic to speak of, in the backcards, storybooks, and the animated media. Star Catcher is one of the characters with the most magical presence, being able to grant "wishes", but all she has are a bunch of butterflies that follow her around.

In "Dancing in the Clouds", Skywishes wishes for dance ideas for the friendship ball, Star Catcher comes out with her butterflies. The butterflies carry Skywishes around, which gives her the idea to bring them to the Friendship Ball to use for the dance. Star Catcher plays "Fairy Godmother" in a couple books, one of which her butterflies bring Twinkle Twirl a dress, and the other... I think she brings Skywishes a dress too. There's nothing MAGICAL about her, really. But she's kind of the "wish granter" and could be perceived as "magical".

However, there's a rainbow waterfall that acts as a portal between Ponyville and Butterfly Island. That's kind of magical, right?

Magic didn't come to G3 until "The Runaway Rainbow", but even then, the unicorns didn't have any powers except for the appointed "rainbow makers". Even THEN it seems to be a time-sensitive thing, and they can't make a rainbow without Rarity. Which, Rarity might be the only magic user in all of G3, relying on a magic wand that can teleport her, create rainbows, etc. She doesn't really use this until the end of the movie so (imo) she's not as "magical" as Star Catcher despite actually having magic. :P

Spike in "The Princess Promenade" slept for a thousand years so he could give a special flower to a pony and crown her Princess. Nothing magical about him, nor the flower.

Maybe there are some other smaller things but generally speaking, G3 was very... normal. :P

Pony Corral / Re: 'cut out' playsets - yay or neigh?
« on: October 05, 2021, 07:13:32 PM »
I agree it's cheap. The worst part about the Canterlot Castle was that it was being sold for $40. It's not very big, one-dimensional, and comes with very few accessories. You really only get a throne and a table in terms of furniture with this one. Few unique accessories if any, most of these are reused from previous sets (I bring this up because G4 was bad about accessories-- throwing in reused accessories for the sake of having accessories, disregarding theme or purpose, such as the Wedding Castle's seashell cake). $40! That's the same price the current G5 castle is going for, and that's 2 feet tall, for use with the standard 3" ponies.

I got the Sweet Apple Acres barn from the FiM collection when it was full price at Toys R Us and it's a decent display piece if you're a FiM fan, but $20 is a lot and you get so little. I'd say it's worth $12 TOPS, as in, that's what they should've charged for it initially. It's nicely detailed on the outside with stickers and such, but when you turn it around, there's nothing on the inside. There's SOME sculpting but it's hard to make out because nothing is painted. It would've been awful to play with if I had this as a kid. When I was little I hated sculpted details on playsets that weren't painted. As an ADULT I hate it, and especially when it's so small, and when everything's in the shadows like these playsets are, it's all hard to see.

Not to mention they would be flimsy to play with. You'd be knocking it over and putting it back up every time you moved your pony. So at that point they're just backdrops... so what's stopping you from printing out a picture of Canterlot Castle and using that?

I understand "it's more expensive to make toys nowadays" but have you seen toys in a similar price range? Honeybee Acres and Woodzeez, etc? Much better. Everything's painted, tons and tons and tons of accessories. Good value, good quality for the price. Modern MLP is trash, objectively speaking. Poor quality control and everything costs too much for too little. A tiny pony with dry knotted up hair costs $4.99 because it has the "My Little Pony" branding on it. They sell better quality fakies right next to the MLPs for $1.99 and are twice the size. Great hair, better paint, better quality.

Similarly, you have MGA who puts their dolls in actual hemmed clothing while Barbie is only dressed in paper-thin, unhemmed, oversized t-shirt dresses with things printed on them. When I was a kid, if you wanted a Barbie overalls, the overalls would be a full piece of overalls as you would expect, with pant legs and all, maybe small little beads to simulate buttons. There would probably be a t-shirt sewn onto them, and everything would be Velcro'd. I saw a Barbie with "overalls" recently, except it wasn't overalls, it was a paper-thin, unhemmed, oversized t-shirt dress with "overalls" printed onto it, but only on the front side. They have 20th anniversary Nutcracker dolls out that have no detail... everything is just printed on. When I was a kid, the Nutcracker dolls had actual lace and ribbons and detail on them. MGA puts REAL CLOTHES on their dolls, yes they're a bit more expensive, but the quality is day and night. If you buy Rainbow High you're going to get more bang for your buck than Barbie.

Didn't mean to go on a rant there but it's hard to justify anything like this when everything else Hasbro is doing lately (since 2013ish but especially 2016 onward) is awful. If these "playsets" were $15 or less I'd be fine, but they're charging $20 to $40 for absolutely nothing. I also say this as a big playset enthusiast. I had tons of G3 ones as a kid but as an adult I have Paradise Estate, Prancing Pretty Carousel, G2 Playcase, Sweetberry's Kitchen (G2, not sure what it's actually called if it has a proper name), Celebration Castle, Cotton Candy Cafe, the G4 Wedding Castle, and the Barn. Actually, both barns, the one released in 2010/2011 and the FiM Collection barn from ~2016. These FiM Collection "playsets" should be compared to other MLP playsets of similar scale, such as Petite Ponies and G3 Ponyville, and in that regard, it's still embarrassing. Both of these series had full three-dimensional sets with detail and several accessories, yet these sets from the 2010s couldn't even do that. Very few accessories, no room to play, no real "playability". Just a wall.

Spoiler
Mostly I just have questions. Like, Maretime Bay and Zypher Heights were both shown to be technologically advanced, even with smartphones and TV's. And yet the unicorns that live in the woods have no technology? Even their "video games" are shown to be made of wood and powered by animals on a treadmill? (An old cartoon cliche.) Why such a separation? What is the purpose, story-wise, for the unicorns to be living like fantasy-style cavemen, basically?

Spoiler
I didn't think about it until last night, but like... what happens to the species now that magic is back? They're just friends now? Everyone gets along all of a sudden because of magic? What about the prejudices they've been taught their entire lives, is that all thrown away now, the instant magic is brought back? I guess this is something that could be addressed in a series or the special.

And are these three towns the ONLY places on the planet where ponies live...?

I can't remember if the unicorn technology part was brought up or not, officially. Maybe it was a theory, maybe it was someone who worked on the movie that said this, but it might've had to do something with the unicorns' superstitious nature. "Technology bad"?

Guess I haven't shared my thoughts yet. :P

Spoiler
I liked it better than the G4 movie.

The characters were more mature and likeable, they're very distinct but they feel like they would have chemistry. G4 only had the one trait per character and as a result the ponies didn't seem to mesh well together. They're supposedly "best friends forever" and even the GUARDIANS of the concept of "Friendship" yet none of them really have chemistry with each other. They just "hang out" because plot demands or they're paired up together for the sake of missions. How often do the Mane 6 hang out together, just as friends? Realistically, why would someone like Rarity hang out with someone like Rainbow Dash? Why should I believe that they're inseparable best friends until the day they die? The Mane 5 could get along with each other, either one-on-one or as a larger group.

Haven was my favourite character because vain characters tend to be my favourite. It's too bad Pipp didn't get more screentime. She was so superficial and "influencer"-y in the movie. Maybe not a good character for kids to look up to, but a fun one to watch.

The music I liked better in New Generation too. The G4 movie music sounded very samey, when I saw the movie in theatre I wasn't impressed by any of it except "One Small Thing" which seems to be an unpopular opinion, because that song seems to be the least popular when it comes to Youtube views. The opening song and "Time to be Awesome" sound the same, I don't remember anything from Capper's song, "Open Up Your Eyes" is overhyped. I think people just like it because of "ooh it's a villain song, just like how Disney used to do!", the singing is fine and all and I don't remember having issues with the lyrics but the instrumentals are lacking. I don't feel intimidated like I should be by Tempest, instead I'm just bored. The song lacks power. When it comes to G5 I liked all the songs, very catchy, well-sung. I might have to re-listen to the song where Sunny and Izzy run away together because I wasn't impressed by it. Maybe it will grow on me if I listen more? "Gonna Be My Day" is good, "Fit Right In" is fantastic, "Glowin' Up" was one that had to grow on me and now I like it too. Sprout's song was alright, very catchy, but the lyrics were kind of dumb. Maybe that's because he's a pathetic villain and he's not supposed to be too intimidating, the song is supposed to be dumb like him, but it's kinda... yeah, it's dumb. XD

I mentioned locations in the Unpopular Opinions thread, but I really love all three towns and I want to see them a lot in the series. Maretime Bay reminds me G3 Ponyville, very colourful. Zephyr Heights is gorgeous and I love the verticality of it, I love all the gold. Bridlewood got the least amount of screentime but I'd like to see more! Compare to the locations in G4 which was just... dirt, dirt, dirt, and more dirt. G4 Ponyville was flat with dirt roads and copypasted cottages everywhere. Like I understand copypasting things to save time and money, but you can at least change some things here and there! Everything looked the same in Ponyville! The locations in G5 have a lot of "layers" to it and are more lively.

Plot was okay. Better than G4. Like... G4 was definitely more high-stakes but G4 ALWAYS had big adventures. That was one of the issues with having a G4 movie -- what can you do that hasn't already been done before? And most people will say that the movie was worse than an average FiM episode. The Mane 6 were bumping into characters, for what reason? To sell toys that didn't even sell? Capper shelfwarmed at Target for like two years before moving to Five Below to shelfwarm there. Capper and the Pirates were worthless, Grubber was an annoying henchman, the Stormking was lame. The seaponies had like 2 minutes of screentime until Twilight uncharacteristically stole their pearl, because every kids movie needs an obligatory third act breakup scene, even if that means everyone acts out of character. Oh, and there can't be any complex emotions or any consequences, so make sure they make up and be friends again within 5 minutes. It all just felt like filler. Every character in ANG seemed to have purpose even if they didn't get that much screentime (Alphabittle...).

« on: September 23, 2021, 06:33:56 PM »

BTW, am I imagining it or is there not a tale somewhere in FIM of unicorns, earths and pegasi being segregated and ponies being mutually suspicious? Did I dream that or did it happen? Bear in mind I've only seen some of FIM and no episode more than once, so I may just be inventing this. But it just feels like this theme is really...familiar...to Equestria somehow.

The first Christmas special "Hearth's Warming Eve" talked about ancient Equestria history, a tale based off of it or something? I haven't watched this episode since it aired in 2011 so I don't remember exactly what happened. But yes, the ponies were once separated by species, but then their leaders got stuck together in a cave and they suddenly became friends...? And that's the TRUE meaning of Christmas

Pony Corral / Re: Who was the very first G3 you ever bought?
« on: September 17, 2021, 07:00:09 PM »
I came home from school one day and my mom bought four ponies. Two were for me (plus Cotton Candy Cafe!) and two were going to a classmate for her birthday. I ended up choosing Sunny Daze and Wysteria. :) I gave up Rainbow Dash and I don't remember who the other pony was. The Glitter Celebration ponies were the hardest to find to complete my set, I got them all at once! They were the only ones I've seen that had the free Charming Birthday VHS too, I didn't know they were supposed to come with movies.

My friend ended up getting Celebration Castle for her birthday and I was soooo jealous!! The balloon was so cool!! Until I was able to get it I played with my ponies in an appropriately sized wooden dollhouse.

We got a full 1-minute clip of Sunny and Izzy! For those who have watched the trailer, this is where the can of beans scene happens lmao

I think they're cute! One of the things I'm excited for in G5 is the fact that the characters all have deeper voices. :P No more squeally chipmunk ponies...!
