Pony Corral / Re: Lets start a new one! Show off your pony collection/Room!
« on: February 23, 2016, 04:15:07 PM »
Oooh I love this seeing everyone's collections and it's great timing for me as I have just managed to get mine out on display after moving, before that they were always just all in boxes under the bed.

I am still restricted for space and ponies are a bit all crammed in there, I have yet to sort out raisers, but I think it's a lot better for them to be out of boxes and for me to be able to actually see them.

Ahh yes butterscotch...for the dreaded PC *closes eyes and holds breath*

Here she is ....

I have decided that she was worth it to me as I have somehow found myself in the odd position of trying to find ponies in a suitable condition to fit in with my existing collection.  The ponies in my Greek collection have been so loved that I now have to be careful not to add ponies that are too minty as they would just look silly (and put the others to shame  ;)).

See photo example with Mohawk bow tie and cotton candy(bow tie was also missing a tail), half a mane bluebelle, poor minty-oh my word - she has black marks, painted hair and only half of one eye. All have marks, hair cuts and symbol issues.  Bless them.

I have debated with myself so many times as to whether I should rehair or touch up minty' eyes and symbols or just leave them all be.

I have looked and looked and looked again at luna_scythe's blossom, it's driving me crazy  :P  I think she is a good price, my only problem is that I am uk based so by the time I have added on shipping, customs charges and handling it bumps the price up a fair bit....and silly as it sounds I'm not sure she is baity enough.  I think at some point I will look at getting upgrades, but for now I feel like I saved the poor unloved ponies and gave them a home :)

It also occurred to me that I have two peachy's so I don't know if it might be worth looking to do some sort of trade involving a poor condition peachy for a poor condition blossom...watch this space for wtb baity Greek blossom!

Ok but she is feeling embarrassed to be photographed now that she is so old and baity so please don't judge her it's not her fault  ;)

Here's her stamps

Pictures of her to see her eyes, hair, symbols (and pink from bleeding), and her larger than normal tail hole.

So my Greek butterscotch came today (the one I overpaid for ).  And I noticed that you can still see half a Hong (as in half of the word) from the wiped out Hong Kong symbol.  I have read about this so didn't think much of it other than I thought it was kind of cool.

Then having never really paid much attention to the feet of the rest of my Greek herd other than they are blank I got curious and went to see what the rest looked like...only to find that my Greek  lemondrop has two stamps, Hong Kong and hasbro pat pending 82.

I know I am a newbie and it's likely now for everyone to think I have the head of a Greek on the body of a normal lemondrop (head is certainly Greek, has the haircut and the brown eyes).  But the head and body match, the tail is the same as my other Greeks, her body has the same looks like she has had a suntan look about it, plastic same squishyness as head, symbols  have the Greek bleeding look, even as a newbie I don't have any doubt that she is all Greek.

I am thinking somehow she missed getting her stamps covered altogether?  I just wondered if anyone else has come across this?
Either way she is not of any value as she is very baity ( on a side note I am one baity Greek blossom away from a complete and beloved baity Greek cp set lol), I am just curious  :)

I dont have her here yet to photo but I will post one when I do and you can tell me what you think (I'll whisper you what number to say to make me feel better  j/k  ;))

Not mint but in fairly good condition.  Eyes ok, hair and tail looks ok (possibly a very light cut). Symbols ok, expected bleeding but still visible and no scratches/rubs.  One or two very light marks ( looks like the marks from a saddle being left on ).

Thanks  :)

I second Shileah's technique I have used it on a few ponies with great success. Just wanted to add that I have found that if you re pink with rit dye for some reason this seems to improve the hair condition further.

Ok so go easy....

This is the first time I have shared and my first time doing anything like this (omg I hope the upload works or I will feel very silly) So first rehair, first fbr, first attempt at eye and symbol painting.

I most certainly do not consider myself an artist (as I do so many of the customisers I have seen here that have a real talent).  However I wanted to give customising a try and liked the idea of creating a space filler for a very beautiful pony who I doubt I will ever own.  I suspect it has been done before and I suspect it has been done to a better standard.  But I managed to create something through a lot of trial and error that I am quite pleased with, I even love her many faults as I figure they were all part of my learning process.

Things I have learned...
1. FBRs not as easy as they look on the tutorials (I think this was attempt 4 in total of starting and stripping her down again)
2. Symbol painting (especially with little to go on ) is hard, I have a new respect for all of you who manage to create factory looking symbols (Oh and I suffer from shaky hand syndrome).
3. If you are not happy with something take the time to start over....but also know when to stop!  (I think I came to the realisation that there were limits to my ability and I would have to accept that, maybe with some practise I may improve.

Also I just wanted to talk a little about her symbol.I looked quite a lot into trying to figure out what her symbol looked like.  On a few pictures I saw definite ball shapes under her candles and was mystified at what these could be.  Someone in a post on another site had suggested that these were apples, but this didn't make any sense to me in relation to her theme.  Anyway when I mentioned this to my husband(who is Greek) he immediately came up with the idea that in Greece it's a custom at Easter to have eggs that are dyed red and perhaps that's what the round objects were.  I went with that as it made sense but I just wanted to throw it out there as it seems obvious but I have come across the idea anywhere else yet...I guess it's a possibility.  The heart shape was not intentional and I actually didn't notice this until taking the photos

I would also love advice on how to get the symbols nice and smooth as mine are a bit lumpy in places (or any other advice from the experts will be gratefully received).

Thanks

Thanks, I had forgotten about this post.  Update is that there is a post on the site saying the owner is not very well hence why the site is not operating as usual (I hadn't noticed this previously as I was on my mobile and couldnt see the post).

I am guessing most people know this by now.  It is a real shame though, here's hoping she feels better soon  :)

Oh wow thanks for that valeofspring.  Very interesting and I have to say although I'm not a fan personally even I have to admit that they are beautiful and your ponies look lovely with all their ribbons.  You can very much see the difference in quality and the originals appear to be extremely well made.  On a side note looking at mine now I think they are more than likely imposters however I will know what to look for in future  :)

Sorry to ask the stupid question but I have wondered for a while now....

How can you tell it's an original ribbon and not just a replacement?

I ask as I hate the ribbons (sorry  it's mainly because I am terrible at tying them so they just irritate me) anyway so I usually don't bother with them and have a bag of loose ribbons ( em...and brushes too which I also don't care for, sorry again ).  Would just hate to think that I may have ribbons that someone else may want but have no clue.
