Pony Corral / Re: Who was your first pony?

G1 So-soft Truly and Magic stare were a gift to me when I was two, and they started a whole heard!  I loved their fuzziness and soft hair:

Magic Star is still in fairly nice condition, but Truly is a little well-loved.  That's ok, they're allowed to be a bit sparse on fuzz, just as they are, as that's how I know them.  They both still have their stands, stickers, and combs.

Here's another of Truly, I suppose if she were in the Velveteen rabbit, perhaps she could be considered 'real':

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

I've never really regretted a pony purchase (I'm very very selective on what I get), but on the happy side of the coin -

I bought some very sad So Softs to try deflocking, and I loved Angel so much I ended up keeping her.  I hadn't originally intended to, but how could I not love this aqua colored pony with her pretty fish symbols?  (I don't have anything against So Softs at all, and have a couple with flocking, but sometimes the flocking really just makes them so sad):

My ribbons!  I used to keep them in a big basket with the ribbons my mom tied in my hair when I was a little girl.  At some point I stopped wearing ribbons in my hair and the whole basket was donated to thrift.  I wasn't into ponies at the time (having outgrown them for the time being) and didn't think about it.  I know all but two of my pony ribbons were in there... ah!

It's especially frustrating as I otherwise took very good care of my childhood ponies, still have all of them and their brushes and accessories.

My childhood heard has to come in first (there's about 20 of them), but of them, Cool Breeze is probably the top favorite.  Pearly Baby Moondancer/Moondreamer is up there too.  My very first two ponies, Truly and Magic Star have to be up there also.

Others I really love:

Gusty, Glory, and Moondancer
Nightglider
Rainbow Curl Ringlet
Bubbles and Seashell
Spring Song

I also like Masquerade quite a bit, and Angel

Ahhh the impossible grail.  I think they're utterly adorable and would love one, but can nowhere near afford one (and doubt I ever will).

Absolutely perfect!  I love the complimentary design to the official ponies, and it seems like he fits in wonderfully.

I like the name Stardust but i'd be tempted to call him Starburst, if it's not too bold of me to suggest, it just popped right to mind when I saw him.

Let's see... I've never found any ponies while thrifting (I don't do it very often, but I have tried in the past)

On the positive, at the flea market I've found some really cute vintage stuffed animals for pretty much nothing (the tiger and lion, the panther was my mom's):

As well as some great records, odd action figures, and some pretty good vintage clothes.

On the negative... there's not much to thrift at around here, she major brand thrift stores are... honestly pretty sad here and I don't care to go in them if I don't have to.  The antique malls do have a couple of sellers that sell ponies - for way too much!  One sells poor condition common G1s for $50 bucks a pop, another tries to sell very common (like Sunny Daze) G3s for the same price or more.  The same ones have been sitting in both of their cases for years.

She's one of my childhood ponies (I still have her), despite being played with extensively (I loved the sweetheart sisters), she still pretty much has her factory curl.  It could probably use a touch-up though.

Wow... man, while it looks nice as is, I can't imagine these ever actually 'working' as the craft kit they're designed as.  Trying to color such a smooth surface with markers seems like it's destined for messy failure.  Seems like a weird way to package what is essentially a fancy statuette.

I don't have strong feelings on this, but Pony Bride was a childhood pony so that pushes her to the favored of the two!  They're both rather pretty.

I remember saving up pony points to mail off to get her!  I chose her and pearly baby moondancer/moondreamer.  The two of them got played with a lot, I loved the shimmer as a kid.

Customs / Re: Mr. Super Clear for ponies?
« on: February 23, 2019, 10:36:33 AM »
Personally, as someone who customizes Monster High, BJDs, and MLP; MSC is definitely suitable for use on vinyl (which MLP are made of).  It's what we (other half and I) generally use on MH heads which are also vinyl (although I often shrink the heads first, which gives a different surface than soft vinyl).  I don't usually have reason to seal my ponies as I use acrylic paint when painting on new symbols and I go for a very traditional look.  If you're working with pastels or pencils, you'll definitely want to use a sealer though.

My other half and I also use Duraclear matte varnish thinned with water on MH as well, I presume it would work on ponies.  It may take more than one coat and even the 'matte' can give a somewhat shiny finish.  MSC and Duraclear are the only two we've found that don't tend to get sticky over time.  Admittedly we don't know the very long term effect (I mention this, as, for example, acne cream was a popular treatment for spots on ponies but after ten years or so has shown to badly damage and discolor ponies), but we have BJDs which have lasted 10+ years very nicely with MSC and MH dolls which have lasted 6+ years the same.

Sort of a side note... MSC helps to prevent yellowing on resin (as it acts as a UV barrier), I wonder if it has any effect in that regard on vinyl.

Mod Podge as already stated isn't a good choice.

Aw man, she's one of the ones my best friend had, we used her a lot in stories as some sort of powerful being when playing with our MLPs.  I love the dream beauties but their price and size makes them a no go for my collection, even when they're super pretty.

Here's a tiny blind bag custom I did this year.  Hair is apoxie sculpt, paint is acrylic.  Her name is Sabbath Battical because I thought I needed a reminder to myself to slow down and enjoy the holidays.

I love Autumn Skye's color combination, symbol, and theme, to me she's just overall a really perfect pony (though I'd like to add Pumkin Tart to my collection at some point)
