Griffin - I agree with the collector pose, it's not my favourite either but I have so damn many baits in this pose and I wanted a colour that would suit the brown/orange theme.

She's been rehaired with about 6 different shades of nylon Dolly hair. Her eyes were painted, hair curled and styled, and the branches, fungus-type stuff and mushrooms sculpted from polymer clay.

Turns out that sculpting tiny polypore fungus is next to impossible and that's where my whole idea started, so she didn't turn out like I'd pictured in my head.. Enough fragile and minuscule sculpting for me for a while!! Hope she likes the makeover

Love seeing these progress shots Darkhorse! Do you paint the designs free-hand?? How long does it usually take you to finish a custom like this one? She's gorgeous, and I don't really like the sea ponies but she's still amazing!!

Derp - didn't even realise until I got them home that they're the 1983 Original set which was released in 2017! Gah, Australia is so far behind the rest of the world I'm hoping we might get the 35th anniversary ponies in 2021 maybe?

But yes - got the set of 6 ponies, plus some extras for customising. Happy happy!

I use RIT Dye or I airbrush

I have often wondered how you achieved such brilliant colour results with your ponies Darkhorse!!

Do you use RIT Dyemore? I've never tried it because of all the horror stories but looking at your work makes me sooooo tempted!! Have you experienced many issues with fading, uneven coverage etc?

I also wonder if dying a G3 pony is better than G1, if the older plastic and age spots would struggle to hold the colour?

I'm loving the marble effect you've created on the black and red/black and blue ponies!!! Very cool!

Just out of curiosity - does the swap have to be Winter themed? Southern hemisphere have Christmas in the middle of Summer...
