One of my best early finds was a bag of 10 or so G1s I bought at a thrift store for $8 that included Movie!Firefly plus a few older fakies (some of which I'd had as a kid).
Another great find was part of literal truckload of 80s-90s toys that were for sale outside a thrift store a couple towns away, including a good number of ponies. I ended up buying a total of 13 G1s (including Summer Wing Glow in fair condition and Tex's hat) for $11.
I seldom have much luck in the local thrift/antique stores (I may have had 2-3 good finds over the last few years, counting the one I already mentioned), but I've had better luck at some of the stores in a nearby city that I occasionally visit, including one that's always full of vintage/antique items. The ponies I've found there (which include Baby Countdown, Braided Beauty, and more recently, Quackers and Blueberry Baskets) were all priced at $5 or less.
