Pony Corral / Re: Tutorial on how to re-twinkle/glitter symbols!

Good question bluerose!

I find that the 'fine' glitters are the best to use for the symbols. Coarse and thicker textures of sparkles can alter the design of the shaped symbols. As far as colors go, I usually invite a pony with me to go glitter dust shopping. Or I use a picture on my phone of a the pony's glitter symbols to help reference the with color(s). If I can't find the exact color, I will try and find the closest shade as possible to match up with the once existing one. ^-^

Yes and no. It would all depend on the buyers and sellers preference. Also keep in mind that there are two different kinds of people for custom work; one who refurbishes and then there is strictly custom work. Some buyers will pay more for a customized pony verses the actual untouched, unfinished version because they are paying at the commissioners expense. Refurbished work would probably make less or could make a decent amount if it is highly requested and if one has a high volume customer base. It could go one way or another. For example, the Twilight pony I re-twinkled. If I where to refurbish ponies symbols and sell them accordingly like.. let say, $5-$8 a pony, I would not be making very much. Realistically, the quality and precision of ones work and if done well, can go for more then $5-8. Not saying my work is shoddy, but I just used those numbers as an example. :P If I where to customize ponies as a whole, I would be making a little more bank. Because it is more thought provoked, time consuming and the materials used for the pony would have to be somewhat accounted into what I sell the piece for. And of course, some people do custom work for a living! Then there are some individuals who would pay more for a pony based strictly on the rarity, 'as is' sort to speak. Things you have to factor in are commissioners prices vs. collectable prices. As far as patching up a high valued pony, yes, that would devalue it tremendously imo. Hope this makes sense.

Personally not a fan of Angler Fish, but this plush pattern is pretty impressive! Very professionally done, it looks like its factory made. ^_^ Would love to see more patterns you come up with or already put together!

BTW- sorry for the bold.
I like bold.
I'm also kinda blind.
Anyway.
Greetings fellow pony goers!
This is a tutorial on how to re-twinkle/glitter your faded symbols! I'm going to try and keep this as simple and straight forward as I can. :3

Twilight will be the model for this tutorial. Her virgin glitters untouched.

You will need: Modge Podge, glitter, toothpicks, a bottle cap and a couple of Q-tips.

Using a bottle cap provides you with a good amount of glitter to start off with. Also, the cap saves you from double-dipping your sticky, gluey toothpick into the container of glitter.

Take your toothpick and Modge Podge. Dip a tiny, but generous, amount on the tip of the toothpick. Then, with a steady and careful hand, outline your symbol with the toothpick very lightly.

Slowly pour a little glitter into the cap. DO NOT fill it all the way to the brim!! Because we will be using our fingers to remove some of the glitter.

Sprinkle some glitter like so! :3

Before using the Q-tip, be sure to clean the mountain of glitter sprinkled on the symbol. You can either turn the pony sideways and tap it out onto a piece of paper, OR- blow the glitter in a trash bin. After you have done one or both of those methods, you can moisten the end of the Q-tip with some clean water. Squeeze out any excess h20 with your finger and then clean around the symbol. With the dry opposite side of the Q-tip, you can use it to soak up the left-over water reside.

It should look like this after the ol' dust and shine off:

Here is just a close up example of a bigger star outlined with some Modge:

You might come to a point to where you have... lets say a heart or clover leaf etc. and cannot make out what that symbol looked like. For example, the star closer to Twilight's tail is hard to make out; we can easily determine some points of the star, but all in all it looks like Lumpy Space Princess . Unfortunately, fading will deceive our eyes. Using good judgement and adding a little artistic touch can help us along the way! Fear not, you got this! Just like crossing the street, always, try to use your best judgement.

I'm up for this! Is freestyle ok, or did you have a specific theme in mind? Willing to trade with a few people as well unless you or someone would be up for starting a round-robin? :p
