Ooh thanks for linking that! I've not seen much of that style of Japanese culture before it's fascinating!

No prob, it was too cool not to share!

As some of you may know, I'm something of a serious amateur comic artist. Not all of my work is really Arena appropriate, so I don't talk much about it here. ^^; However, last year I was invited to work with the artist circle Team Pärvelö for their next anthology project, Lepakkoluola. :green: Because the project has now reached the crowdfunding stage, I feel it's about time to share this piece of information. "Bat Cave" is a collection of comics about women and lesbians in history with a feminist edge, fit for a general audience. Please check out the Pärvelös' Lepakkoluola tag on tumblr for more information and art. The anthology will be in Finnish with English subtitles and will be out this September.

I don't intentionally make "feminist" comics, I just happen to enjoy and make good (well, I do my utmost to make them good) stories about women. And lesbians. And history. Which must be why I was invited to contribute in the first place. Mine will be a 16-page story set in the Latvian civil war in 1919. (Never mind if you don't know what it is about, it mostly serves as a backdrop in the end.) Any other comic creators here?

I've mentioned this in another topic, but... I attended an Yabusame (Japanese horseback archery; please google for details) event in Helsinki this past weekend. It is not an actual sport but a Shinto ritual meant to entertain the gods, exorcise evil and probably a myriad of other things that I ignore. What made this particular event even more exciting for me is that my teacher (an elderly pro eventer) provided half of the horses, that is horses I have ridden and know personally.

Some photos, not mine

Insider captions by yours truly
SURNAME Firstname / Horse, as in the reportage linked above

– ONO Kazuhito / Piirron Voikko; a Finnhorse. Edo period outfit
– WADA Daichi / Grilstar; an eventing TB mix bred and owned by my teacher. Edo period outfit
– HABUKI Kimikazu / Köyhien Ystävä; UMEZAWA Hirokazu / Grilzon; OGASAWARA Kiyomoto / some nervous leopard. Kamakura period outfits
– ONO Kazuhito / Piirron Voikko again. Edo period outfit
– HABUKI Kimikazu / Köyhien Ystävä; a very beautiful 23-year-old eventing stallion (Finnhorse) owned by my teacher. If memory serves, Mr. Habuki was the only rider to hit all targets in the ceremony I saw. The rest of the outfits are from the Kamakura period
– UMEZAWA Hirokazu / Grilzon; another TB mix bred and owned by my teacher
– OGASAWARA Kiyomoto (future head of the Ogasawara school) / a fast and nervous spotted horse whom I do not know
– Mr. Habuki with KY once again

If I were on familiar enough terms with one, I might. :| However, Koreanology is nowhere near my actual field and I don't think any would be too happy to try and help me out on something purely pastime-related. My university library simply seems not to have bought access rights to that particular journal, and I highly doubt they would instantly acquire them merely because I want them to.

... who has access to the Journal of Korean Studies. Namely, it appears that I don't, and could use a couple of old articles for leisurely pursuits. PM me for details.

Pony Corral / Re: Is this worth selling?

Like it has been said, she's a Little Pretty Kitty named Pinkums and according to my experience one of the more common ones. I'd have said $5 but Little Pretties seem to have been selling okay on ebay lately, so you never know. Definitely not worth tossing.

The one you're talking about is seriously overpriced and has been hanging around ebay for a long time (years, if memory serves.) Personally, I paid $40ish for mine, near mint. With patience, I believe you should be able to find a decent one for $40-45.

Army, variant army! Favourite pony, in case you haven't figured. Sorry I only have random old photos.

All of these should be different. I have added a few since.

I tend to prefer less extras & more substance but wouldn't be opposed to receiving something small. Still, I suggest that we keep the extras budget low.

As for the spending limit, I will probably consent to anything you US people decide. Not being in the States, it won't be as easy (or inexpensive) for me to shop for English books (which I suppose most of you would prefer to receive), but I'd be happy to give it a go.

I'd be in, preferably for some physical books, which of course means that someone out there should be willing to ship international. I wouldn't mind receiving inexpensive paperbacks or second-hand books; in most cases what matters is that they are whole and clean.

Anyone else interested in comics and/or manga?

Have her both MOC and loose, would like to upgrade the loose pony some day. An aqua-haired variant would also be welcome. Frankly, I don't like the blue hearts one, however "Tales accurate" she is. She looks a bit like a case of acne to me.

I keep repeating myself on this point but AB LD should be lower in my opinion, considering one can find her for $30ish by keeping an eye on European ebay sites. Or maybe I'm just a patient bargain hunter? On the other hand, nice 7-Tales Clover will easily fetch $30.
