Off Topic / Re: The trivial complaints thread
« on: July 27, 2020, 02:55:53 PM »
Not a trivial complaint, per se, but I don't feel like posting a lengthy WYP post.

Here's the rundown of what's happened over the last ten days:

- Like the rest of the northern hemisphere, it's hot
- I need to re-do a large page on the family website
- Three of our cows have injured hooves

And to top it all off, our favorite bull has a hernia and has to be put down. Despite being six years old, he's remained extremely docile, both to humans and other animals - heck, he lets my horse nibble on his ears. Losing him is devastating, to put it mildly.

I just want this month to be over.

Just popping in to let everyone know that I'm still involved - I had a long week and am recovering from mild heatstroke. Should be up and running in a couple days.

I have some G1 merch that's not on the wiki - I can take pics if you need them! One is a blue plastic coated box with ponies from the first two years all over, and a mug that has Cherries Jubilee and purple Moondancer.

I'd love to add them!

That'd be great, Carrehz! None of those listed are on the wiki; we'd really appreciate the photos. <3

Alrighty! I can't do anything until next week/possibly week after next (have to see how things go) but I'll try and get those pics for you ASAP <3

(Are any of the Dollymix ponies - G1 and G3 - on the wiki? I could've sworn they were, but I ran a quick search and couldn't find them, so I might be mixing up sites again.. either way I'd be happy to donate pics of those too)

That's understandable, no need to rush. :)

Yep, they're still there - http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Dolly_Mix. Looks like all are accounted for, unless there's another set besides the 2009 / 2010 ones.

I'm not finding the images I took on my phone. Maybe I'm misremembering the year? They weren't on a black/white background anyway, so I might as well retake them. Hopefully the color difference between the two sets will be more obvious with a black background. :)

They don't nessecarily have to be on a black or white background - any solid color would do, really. Can't wait to see them, though!

@ Kazzellin-

Awesome, thank you!

@ Taffeta -
That was a brain fart if I'd ever had one! Please don't take it personally, I've been fighting brain fog all afternoon and that isn't the first big goof I've made today. :drunk:

I didn't see it as offensive xD I just think people tend to group Europe together but as time goes on, it's so much clearer that we had very diverse lines across different places. So yeah xD.

You're talking to the person who almost forgot she needed a plate to eat her dinner on this evening. No biggie

:lovey:

...I'm starting to wonder if a Discord server for throwing ideas around may help to divide and conquer. I can assist with the International timeline too, I'll work on groundwork for the PL sections shortly.

Thanks, tailrustedtealeaf! A Discord server would be an excellent idea, though I wouldn't be able to participate. We're literally on the cusp of rural internet coverage and it can barely handle YouTube some days - let alone a live chat.

If you need any photos of some of the more obscure stuff like G4 Chupa Chups, Sweetie Blue prototype, the Running Press ponies, Busy Books ponies, etc, let me know :) I've got a decent collection of oddities, I'd be happy to donate pics of them wherever possible.

That'd be great, Carrehz! None of those listed are on the wiki; we'd really appreciate the photos. <3

Honestly, even a lot of the non-obscure G4 stuff is patchy or missing, especially stuff past 2013 or so that's not from the movie.

Thanks for pointing that out! I'm not real familiar with G4, so that's good to know.

I can definitely add a ton of pics for retro apparel! Will take pics soon.

Thank you!! <3

When I talk about dropping the divide, I really mean universally across the pony community. Absol's note on the int'l timeline suggests that's what she was doing (and she told me something the same) but I agree on this specific site it shouldn't be done without her agreement/input.

At the very least if you can tidy it up so we don't have bits of sets glued in the wrong place it'd be great.

And please get rid of "Alternative to US ponies". It's so rude.

It would probably take a few years for collectors to adjust, just because the system has been used for so long. Maybe, as a compromise, we could describe years this way:
1984-1985 was the third year of U.S. MLP production and the first year of MLP production in Europe? That way, you could introduce the concept without confusing too many people?

Yeah, that's a poor choice of words. Where is that phrase located, exactly?

@ Taffeta-

Thank you for taking the time to write that all down! Hopefully we can finally get things squared away, got to put this year to good use somehow.

I definitely understand (and support!) dropping the International / US divide, but I think that's something that merits further discussion, especially with absol. From an editor's standpoint I could do it, but... I don't think it would go over all that well.

For now, I'm going to focus on getting ponies categorized into the correct release years.

I'm going to quote your post so I can make a checklist out of it:
The International timeline.

It's just wrong.

I'm actually revamping my own site at the moment, since I'm still in lockdown. But I can definitely point out how and where it's wrong. The problem is I have done so at least 3 times in the past when people have mentioned updating and nothing gets done about it.

I'm also not sure if it can be fixed without abandoning the idea of separating international ponies and "US" ponies, because not all the international ponies were sold in the same places and often they also weren't sold in the same years as the 'equivalent' 'US' sets. (Not to mention most of those US sets were also sold overseas, so it makes trying to ID a collection if you grew up in the UK or Europe much harder. You have to dart around between "US" and "International" and there's no way someone who just wants to ID the ponies they bought in the UK knows which ones the site thinks are 'US' and which ones they don't.

But that;s a bigger systemic issue that probably Absol would have to fix.

In the meantime...

http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G1_Ponies

On the main link page.
Spoiler
(Side-note - I'd love to see the end of the year system, but esp. this idea that years after the US ended can be tagged as 11, 12 and 13. That makes no sense since it relies on the assumption all ponies began at the same time as they did in the US, and that's not the case.)

CP AJ and Bow Tie are included under the 1984 set. They belong in 1985. They're Groom & Style Ponies.

Regentropfen and Nachtlicht are included under "Year 3" to fit with the y3 rainbow ponies.
None of the others from their set are included here.
They were actually sold in 1987. They have nothing to do with the Y3 set.

Baby Applejack, Baby Bow Tie and Baby Lemon Drop are all lumped together under Year 3. Baby Applejack is a Play & Care Set Baby and belongs with Baby Cotton Candy and Baby Blossom. Baby Bow Tie is the stroller baby for 1985 so is in the right year but shouldn't be with Baby AJ. Baby Lemon Drop belongs in 1986, so Year 4.

I am not sure if this one is a problem as it makes sense really for them to be together, but the Pretty & Pearly UK versions of the baby sea ponies belong to 1987/y5 rather than Y4.

Tutti Frutti and Wedding Bells Confetti seem entirely missing. So do the Movie Star ponies. But I'll come to those in a moment, they're on the other link...

Mountain Boys belong in year 5 (1987). They're currently under year 6.

Baby Nightsong, Stella etc are not Sparkle Babies, they're Starlight Babies. It's a different set.

Year 11 is missing and year 12 is a questionmark, which kind of sums up my opinion on the year system and international ponies ;)

...A lot of ponies are missing from 1990-2 that were sold overseas.  I haven't tried to work out how many international ponies overall (not including Nirvana) are entirely absent from this list. Cascade, for example...

I think this is evidence of how far Absol got in integrating the list, but it's not complete and there are the above errors.
...The international list now. Brace yourself.
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G1_Exclusive_Ponies
Please note Absol's date-stamp. That's how long it's been.
Spoiler
Year 3
German Rainbow Ponies do not belong in this year. They are from 1987.

Year 4
Tutti Frutti does not belong here. She is also 1987. This is a good example of trying to forcibly connect an international release to the US timeline, because the US set was in y4. It really didn't work like that.
Cascade is here, but I think she belongs in Year 3. She's 1985, and almost certainly came out in the UK before Sprinkles, who was also 1985.
UK Cherries Jubilee and magenta posey are missing from the set with Gypsy and Honeycomb, Hopscotch and Snowflake. This also isn't demarcated as a set in its own right, but it is one.
Kiss Curl wasn't sold until 1987-8 at the earliest. Probably 1988.
Baby CJ, Hopscotch and Honeycomb are mentioned here, but no Baby Buttons. These also should be in 1987. They are a separate set in their own right, along with a version of Baby Lemon Drop.

"Alternates to American Ponies"
Frankly I find that offensive.

Gusty and North Star are Movie Star Ponies. They belong in 1987. The rest of their set are not here.
Where is Wedding Bells Confetti?

Year 5
I'm not sure what is going on here with 'alternate Princess ponies'.
If they're the German other releases, they should have German names.
If the UK weird puttogether princesses, they belong at the very end of the line.
The ponies under these names are not alternate ponies. They're just the UK names for the regular princesses.
Mountain Boys are not here.

Year 6
Mountain Boys should not be here.

Year 7
White club baby belongs to 1989.

Year 8 is confusing because it's merging together 1989 and 1990. I don't even really want to begin with this, but I do like that Starlight Babies is included as a setname here.

Why are Sweet Clover and Rosette lumped in with Baby Bridesmaid, who is a club baby?

The year system becomes a problem at this point because the Romance ponies etc were part of 1992's release according to Hasbro's list. The Seven Characters were in 1993. But I don't think of 1992 here as the same as year 10 in the US.

I think Baby Ribbons & Hearts is earlier than she's currently listed. But she's a bit complicated.

The ponies listed for 1992 and 1993 are correct, but the years should really be 1993 and 1994 based on the list I have from Hasbro UK.

...UK releases at the very least were done by calendar year, not by Dream Valley's year system, which is one reason it's so hard to shove them into US years.

I think what Absol was trying to do was migrate the exclusives into the main timeline, which is a good thing. But they need to be migrated in the right places, with the right set names, and with everyone present and correct. Otherwise it's a bit of a wasted effort.

Oh good, you beat me to it.

That answers my BF questions then, though I'm wondering: should I add them under the 'Retro' categories on their respective originals' pages?

And sure, if you want to handle the PL releases - go for it!

Hey folks! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer (or winter!)

It has come to my attention that My Little Wiki is in dire need of images, details, and general information relating to various MLP lines.
(And probably related toy lines as well, but I haven't looked into that yet.)
With the release of the new Basic Fun and Pony Life lines (not to mention things like the D&D ponies) there's a lot of ground to cover. This is where the community comes in!

Please understand that I'm not the owner of the Wiki - it belongs to absol, hence the 'unofficial' thread description. I'm just an editor who would actually like to put my dusty wiki account to some use. :P I have no power to authorize new accounts or change certain pages, but can help with uploading images, fixing errors, and add general information to the site.

Other editors are encouraged to join in - this isn't my exclusive project, after all! It's very much a team effort. I just started this thread so that we could get some brainstorming done.

So where do I start?:

Um... I'll be honest, I have no idea.

(That's not very helpful, I know. :yikes: )

For starters, if you run across a page that needs an image, missing detail, or whatever - and you can contribute it, let me know! Here is a Wanted page requesting some images: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Wanted

When submitting photos, please try to keep the following in mind:

- Only photos that you took should be submitted! Don't steal others' photos.

- Images should be clean and clear.

- A solid color background - preferably white or black - is ideal.

- I can add a subtle watermark (yourname@MLPArena or other specified site) if requested.

I will edit the Wanted Page (and the opening post of this thread) as we get the ball rolling and figure out exactly what we need. Thank you for taking the time to read and possibly contribute. <3

We have an old doe that has lived on our driveway for... ever, it seems. Each year she raises a set of twin fawns. I hadn't seen her all year, but yesterday evening I took a walk and guess who I saw? Sure enough, she had two little babies with her.   They're just now losing their spots.

I'm playing... well, more like slogging through Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. It's not by any means a bad game, but I completed 1 recently. As much as I love KH, I'm a little burnt out.

Going to take a break before starting Riku's story.
