I have followed this thread but not posted anything until now. They look amazing! And how wonderful that they still light up. Love the photos, especially the one of Gusty by night.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Scandinavian / Australian Gusty, shorter mane?
« on: May 22, 2013, 07:23:19 AM »
I just tried stretching the hair closest to the neck and they differ. I first made sure that the heads were in the same position on both ponies, the marks on the body and neck are a bit off, not straightly aligned. US Gusty's hair reaches below the knee and covers half of the bottom part of the leg ("the calf"). My Scandinavian Gusty's hair reaches the knee, just a tiny bit below the knee and tummy, it's definitely shorter.

Edit: I just saw that you said the two yellow differently. When I got my US one I was disappointed because it was so yellow, I thought, and it smelled smoke. However the Scandinavian pony was much yellower than my US one - both have been sunfaded now.  The Scandinavian one also has a very hard body, my US one's legs are very soft. But then, I don't know what my Scandinavian Gusty has been through.

MLP Nirvana / Scandinavian / Australian Gusty, shorter mane?
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:35:00 AM »
I've recently bought a Scandinavian Gusty, listed as "My Little Pony 10" on Swedish eBay. The head was loose just as it was on all the other ponies the seller had. She was not the original owner, obviously, so she didn't know why the heads had been loosened. I know that some people take the heads off to clean all of their ponies, regardless of their state. I was also told by a friend that her dad had loosened the heads on her childhood ponies so she could play with them in the bathtub when she was little - so that it was easier to dry them out.

When I got the pony and had studied it for a while and compared it to my US Gusty I realised that the mane was shorter. It doesn't look like it has been cut and inside the head it looks like a legit Hasbro mane base. The tail has its original metal washer and "clip"(?). I googled pictures of Scandinavian Gusty plus I had a few saved on the computer and the mane seems to be shorter than on US Gusty. Does anyone know if her mane is supposed to be shorter?

At first I thought the tail on the Scandinavian Gusty felt thinner but they look about the same when braided.

Tail and mane. It was hard to photograph but this is the best I could do.

A collage of Scandinavian Gustys from aroud the web. Some are from Swedish eBay, some are from the Arena, the old one, and I can dig out the member names for credit if needed.

Here's a photo of my two Gustys before the Scandinavian one had been fixed up. Its messy hair looks just as short as on some in the collage above.

Thanks again and thank you for calling me a good friend. It was a lot of work actually, more than I had expected but I wanted to do it. I like fixing up ponies. It was also not nice not having to add to my own collection, don't want it to get too big, and that I could just return them to their owner once I was done. Those tiny baby ponies with curly hair were the worst but the ponies with straight hair were quite easy to fix, ironing the hair (when needed) actually helped. The ponies I have bought as a collector with frizzy hair is most of the time just dry and not fixable. Glad it worked on her ponies. (I didn't iron the UV hair btw, I know it can't take heat.)

Dom ser så fina ut nu! ;)

Ha, ha, tack. ;)

They all look amazing. You did such a wonderful job on these ponies! I have a friend who has a ton of G1s at her parent's house that I am waiting on... She has no idea what is there so the anticipation is killing me!

Oooh, exciting.

Wow, they all look so great! I love before-and-afters. Must be so great for your friend to see their ponies all sparkly again!  :)
I love the picture of Sundance in the snow so much................!!!

I like the snow photos too. I'm glad we had some snow left when Megan and Sundance were done before I had to return them.

She also had a set of petite ponies but I forgot to take before photos of them. Fixed the tails on the pink and the blue pony.

Oh wow, so many beautiful ponies. I see a lot of my favourites among your G1s. :) Love the twinkle-eyed ponies, flutters, wingers and the princesses. Lovely collection. Cute dog too.

Edit:
I looked at your pictures some more. Who's that yellow staggering pony with purple hair? A deflocked, rehaired Magic Star?

Thank you all. I also prefer the darker shade of green on Fifi's ribbon, which surprises me since I normally like pastel colours.

About tying bows, I had to google it and I found this viedo on youtube that helped me. I had been doing it the "wrong way" my whole life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwRcjaH57P8

And regarding the lighting. Besides the natural daylight I used ... a flashlight. ^.^ This is the first time I've tried using a flashlight. It was a smaller new one with LED lights.

I wonder how those backcard stories were written, they seem a bit "last minute" most of the time. Moondancer's really is bizarre.

OMG - BIG congratulations! I LOVE her! Bright Eyes is my dream pony! Ive never forgot that name and when I got into ElfQuest it got stronger with the slogan "Keep Bright Eyes" - as in my siggy!

You are very lucky! I hope to find a good condition BE one day

Hope you get one! I saw my chance when there were three up for auction at the same time (not all buyers going for the same pony) and you couldn't really tell what they (the eyes mainly) looked like in the photos. I went by the seller's description on the eyes and i asked another seller about the eyes on that BE and she said the coating was gone. So I knew which pony to aim for. :)

Pony Brag Arena / Bright Eyes ... and a ribbon for TAF Fifi
« on: May 16, 2013, 03:39:50 AM »
So this is really just for one pony, Bright Eyes. I've been wanting to get her for a while now, which is strange because she doesn't fit with my other ponies that are mostly light pastel. Orange is definitely not my favourite colour but I think she's beautiful. Recently there were three up for sale on eBay and I got one of them - for a good price too. The photo wasn't that good (flash) so I couldn't see what the eyes looked liked but the seller described them as having the iridescent coating left and they did! I decided to get her a replacement ribbon. I wanted an orange one but at the store I figured red would work too. I also tried with Bow-tie's white ribbon but I think I'll let her wear the orange one. :) While buying ribbons I picked up a green one for Fifi, actually two different shades of green, since I thought it would look good on her and I think it works. She's quite new to me as well. Not a rare pony at all but I think she's beautiful, especially in person.

I've always thought that Bright Eyes' name was a bit strange and looking at her and her symbol I thought she could have been named Seven instead. Then I realised that maybe one is supposed to have a good night's sleep and wake up at seven with bright eyes? I decided to read her backcard story at the wiki to see if that would give me a clue but ... are those stories weird or what? It made no sense at all.

Bright Eyes' backcard story:
Everyone was having so much fun playing games and telling stories with Bright Eyes at the Lullabye Nursery, that the hardly noticed it was almost bedtime. "We want to play some more," the babies yawned. Bright Eyes knew exactly how to make them go to bed. "Gather 'round," she said as the babies formed a circle around her. She placed an alarm clock in the middle of the circle and tapped her foot. The soft tic-toc of the clock grew louder and LOUDER, until the clock began to spin like a top and the alarm bell rang a merry ring-a-ding-ding! When it stopped, the clock danced with each laughing pony, whirling and twirling her around the room until she was so tired that she willingly climbed into her crib. "Sweet dreams," Bright Eyes called as she tucked the little ones into bed and blew them a goodnight kiss.

(My favourite strange backcard story so far is Moondancer's. I'll never look at her in the same way again.)
Spoiler
Moondancer was sleeping peacefully. Awakening with a start, she found Twilight beside her. "Cotton Candy is missing!" said Twilight. "Have you seen her?" "Cotton Candy should go on a diet," yawned Moondancer. "She ate my favorite bluegrass and my prettiest wild flowers. I put her in hibernation until winter!" Twilight was stunned. "Free her from the spell, Moondancer. Her friends are worried!" "Is it winter already?" teased Moondancer. But she freed Cotton Candy from the spell and even called the West Wind to give her a ride home.

She was in good condition when I got her so no reason to show a before picture. I just fixed
her bangs. There's a small rub on the symbol on the DS but it's in the white part so it
doesn't show.

Love the eyes. I only own another twinkle-eyed pony, Gingerbread, and her eyes are
not this good.

I might want to get the comb for her too.

That's lovely. I really like it when ponies have their original accessories. Good job.

balletpot, I love that picture of Lemon Drop! And that Moondancer is so WHITE :dribble:

Thank you. However, about Moondancer being so white, I think it's thanks to the daylight and the SLR camera. She looks a little bit better in the photo than in real life. ;)
