If I binned fifty things I'd start chucking ponies. I regularly purge what I own, either selling, binning, or donating. I don't like owning things, coming from a person who has like, 200 toy ponies, that sounds weird, but, outside of what I use for my business or my hobbies, I own squat. I have a lot of prints on my walls, but those are on my walls, they don't really get in the way.

It is very nice to have a small footprint in your house or apartment, it makes keeping things organized a lot easier.

Off Topic / Re: Most Beautiful Music You Listen To, When You Need Calm?
« on: January 03, 2013, 07:05:45 PM »
Mico Nonet makes really nice quiet music, here's a track from their record 'Marmalade Balloon'; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=266TITqGAWA
Brian Eno's work with procedural and minimalist music is good when you need something passive, it's music to listen to when you don't want to listen to music; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfKcu_ze-60
Shine has some really chill tracks on their record 'The Common Station', very laid back music with a female vocalist; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejX6lNfjvAQ
I like this track by A Produce, called 'The Golden Needle', it's very easy to listen to, in one ear and out the other; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC7GFQgXgHE

I listen to a lot of minimalist, drone, and ambient music. I can't listen to music all the time, I'm into music, not like 'boy I sure do listen to a lot of music!', I do, but my trade is audio engineering, mostly with music. I play upright bass, and write and arrange regularly. Sometimes I don't want to listen to a track and pick out the time sig, the tempo, key, chord progression, or anything like that. It's inevitable that I will, my brain can't not do it. Sometimes I just want something freeform, some noise, something that doesn't conform to the usual rigour of music theory, which is where things like Liquid Mind, Stars of the Lid, Harold Budd and other crap that gets thrown into the 'new age' bins at record stores get into my listening rotation.

Do something about this. None of the G3s are styled. The G4s are in boxes, obviously.

Off Topic / Re: Steam Holiday Sale
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:35:26 PM »
Man I'm at like $250, and about $150 of that has been gifts.

And I'm going to disagree with you completely on Trauma. I consider it to be one of the best games I've played in the past few years. Videogames have this problem of getting up their own butt within about two minutes. They lay it all out, tell you 'here I am, look at me! Do you see me? This is what I am! LOOK AT ME!', that's minute one, after that they keep trying to get noticed, keep doing inane things to get your attention. To me, that's boring. Darksiders is a game I bought during the Steam sale, and I'll use it as an example.

You boot up Darksiders, and if you don't skip the cinematics, you're going to be watching about five minutes of hyperstylized nonsense that looks like it was conceived by a junior high kid going through his goth phase. I find that incredibly boring and disinteresting. There's nothing to experience, nothing to grab, instead it gives you everything, there's nothing to discover, it's all right there. After which you get to go through the incredibly drab introductory level where you're shown the game mechanics. Press this to do this, go here to do this, again, it's all handed to you. There's nothing to dig into because it's already been dug up.

Trauma is the complete opposite of this. You're treated to an intro sequence that lasts about a minute, then you start playing. The game doesn't tell you how to play it, it doesn't entice you. It doesn't present itself to you outside of going 'Hello I am Trauma'. If you expect it to tell you what it is, it's going to say 'Why don't you get to know me?', it doesn't tell you anything. The story is so minimal you decide what you want to put into it. If, while playing it, you want to get to know the protagonist, you can. If you want to collect all the pictures and get all the cutscenes just for funsies, you can do that, too. But that's not the point. Trauma is less about the game and more about the player. The person playing it defines it. It's an open character study, it's not for everyone. I totally get that some people don't want a game that's so tabula rasa. It's very minimal, it doesn't force itself on you. It's calm, quiet, and develops very slowly over it's two hour length. It doesn't boast, it is open, it doesn't tell you how to experience it, it lets you experience it in your own.

Myself, I am all over that kind of game. I like games that will make you ask 'what is a videogame? When does a game cease being a game, and is instead just a dialogue? Dear Esther did this, and Trauma does this better.

It's $1.74 till January fifth, and it's well worth your money.

Off Topic / Re: Learning a second language, where to start?
« on: December 29, 2012, 07:13:25 PM »
Learn how to talk about something you like. Learn to talk ponies in Spanish, what words you need to know to talk about them, and how to form sentences. If it's something you like you're more likely to remember. After that, expand upon it. You'll learn the basics and then you'll have an easier time with other words and phrases since you've gotten a grip on syntax and pronunciation. There will always be words you'll have to look up, but once you get the basics down you'll only have to look up those words once.

I learned Swedish by learning how to talk hockey, then by watching Swedish hockey league games. After that, it was easy to pick up the rest.

You have two options; No fuss, make less, get the money now, or list them one by one on eBay or Amazon, and deal with shipping but make more over a longer period of time.

When I hocked my gigantic PSOne, PS2, and XBox collection (about 500 games total), I traded in everything that had a value of less than $15, and sold the rest piecemeal. I had to be patient with selling the singles, but it worked. For me, it so wasn't worth it to list and box up like 400 games, so I went to a local game store, and traded in the bunch. The ones that were worth a decent amount of cash I put on eBay or sold through Craigslist. It took a while, but I got rid of everything, and made a decent amount of cash, too.

And as has been said, sets sell a lot better. Sometimes it's worth it to buy a single to finish a set, it'll make selling it a lot easier.

Size comparison for those not familiar with how big G3 styling ponies are.

It takes some fenagling to get G4s to look how you want, but it's doable.

It's an article that was written and published to get a reaction. This will probably be posted on Reddit, tons of people are going to read it, the page is going to get a huge traffic spike, and some of those people are probably going to bookmark this guys page so they can keep going back to it and feel like they have something to feel self righteous about.

Don't follow the link, don't leave a comment, don't give the guy the time of day. It's a troll who wants attention. Ignore it.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I do like that there's a day where people congregate and buy each other awesome stuff, I'm all about that. So, I still buy things, usually a few weeks in advance. I'm very bad with crowds, so I do all of my shopping online. I don't like going out at this time of the year, every place is packed, even Hobby Lobby and Harbour Freight Tools! Guess people gotta get them cheap drill bits for the holiday season. Nothin' says 'I hope that whatever phenomenon best epitomizes your native winterfest is in plentiful supply' like a new set of cheap drill bits.

I just do some brushy brushy with a rat tail comb to get out all the tangles, rinse it with warm water, condition it, then give it another rinse. Once I figured out styling I never used any product, and I feel that my pones look pretty good.

If ya all have hands that can't cut straight, and you have a mat cutter it would do ya well for something like this.

Right now it's my G4 Fashion Style Rarity 'cause I made her super pretty, and did a print of her that came out awesome. It will likely, and soonly change to one of the winter G3s with their awesome hats.

Pony Corral / So, the trading cards.
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:59:37 PM »
I bought the tin as a Christmas present for one of my friends, and I really want to tear into it. They're $2 for five cards, that's obnoxious! I know that if I buy one pack, I'll probably buy a box. About how much would I be out to complete a set? Would a box do it? I know that if I get started on them, I won't stop before I have them all, wanna figure out what my investment would be.
