Pony Corral / Re: Paint and sunfading tutorial!
« on: March 17, 2012, 09:03:24 PM »
I did a quick test on an Italy girl of mine (who's luckily a big restoration project anyways), but I did suffer paint loss when I painted over  her eye and tried to take it back off. the black and blue of her eye have notably faded.

I'm not sure what caused it, I tested the alcohol on her eye without the acrylics on it and that went fine, though I didn't rub quite as hard, so maybe that is it. Though, I'm actually wondering if I hadn't let the acrylics dry properly (this being a quick test and all), and if that caused the eye paint to come of with it.
Or maybe rubbing alcohol differs a tad from country to country. Maybe some batches of Italian paint aren't as strong?
Obviously, this technique works fine for most people, so I'm just trying to figure out what could have caused my issue so others don't make my error, but I'm kind of unsure currently, and not quite brave enough to try again. >>

I just tried removing the paint on one eye to see if mine did it too. But I didn't notice any paint loss. It may be the batch of paint, or removing it before it was entirely dry. It may also be the brand too. It could also be the pressure used while you were rubbing it. I dabbed on the alcohol and let it set for a second to loosen it up, then rubbed a little after reading your post.

On the other hand if it was a white pony, it could just be extra paint remaining. I know I had to take a few very gentle swipes over the eye with a q-tip to get it off. Do you see the color layer underneath peaking through or does it look like the eyes are faded as in... whiteish?  Try putting a bunch of alcohol on a qtip, let it set and dab very gently to see if it clears it up. I'm thinking if that's the case, there's just some white paint remaining.

The first time I tried this, I used artist-grade acrylics. I also used yellow. The pony ended up being covered in yellow and still isn't entirely gone, even after all the scrubbing I did. D; But that might be the same thing.

As for the progress, she's ALMOST there. She's about a shade or two shy of white. I've been leaving her in the window, but also leaving her outside since we've had a lot of warm sunny days lately. I can see a huge difference! She might be ready in another week or two! :3

I also found a tail replacement... it's not pony hair, but I have a wig I've been working on which is almost the right color and a similar texture. I have all this extra hair from it, so I'll be making her a new tail with it. :D

The paint was just to cover symbols while the rest of the body is faded (unless there was something else someone did with paint). Dry erase marker was suggested to remove other marker that was still on the surface and hadn't yet stained the plastic.
I wrote the paint tutorial!

Paint would still work in this case. It can be used to cover symbols. But if there's marks on the body that you want to fade out while not letting the light touch the rest of the pony, it can be used in the same way. It might actually work best looking at how the marks are. You'll probably want to cover MOST of the body with the tinfoil. But around the marker, I would take some paint (white, or whatever color, it honestly doesn't matter) and just get in there to make sure that you cover all the remaining untouched blue around the symbols. Otherwise, you'll probably just have a HUGE blob of faded blue. But at least this way it's very controlled what parts of the body are exposed to the light.

I've not yet had a pony to try it on in this way, but it will do the same thing!

As for the dry erase marker... I don't think it's really going to work with pink highlighter. Highlighter gets into the plastic and stains it. Rubbing alcohol can remove sharpie from painted areas without removing the original paint underneath too. I sort of feel more comfortable with that option as the rubbing alcohol is clear. XD  But I think in this case, the damage is already done. ;_;

I hope you'll be able to fix him!

Pony Corral / Re: Your opinion on Fakies?
« on: March 14, 2012, 02:29:23 AM »
I had some fakies growing up, namely Remcos and other misc. kinds. My mom thought they were My Little Pony because they were horses with hair and tails, and didn't think I could tell the difference. But I knew. :P I was 3 and could tell a cheap Barbie doll from the real thing.

I don't own a lot of fakies. I do have a few. Sometimes, I'll pick up some at work that might look cute. Other times, I don't really bother. XD I'm running out of room for my real ponies right now, much less fakies!

Apples instead of fries? Come on. That's awful. lol

If I am going to Mickey Dees, i'm going to go all out. I don't expect there to be healthy stuff. I expect trans fat and grease.

EXACTLY. LOL Although I went on about the stuff that's in it... in my last post, if I go there, I'm getting me some McNuggets and fries! :9  Not to mention a nice delicious Shamrock Shake! XD

If I want really healthy food, I'm going to grow it myself so I know what's in it.

Pony Corral / Re: Ponies that were once thought valuable

I once had a lady at a flea market selling ponies insisted that Baby Chuck E Cheese pony was worth more if it was signed...I wasn't aware of what she was talking about and she told me that when you got them from Chuck E Cheese they got signed...I continued to give her the I don't agree face.

I can't see myself paying more for a pony because some employee at Chuck E Cheese signed the baby pony and I would have never gotten mine signed  even if I had purchased the pony back in the 80's from a Chuck E Cheese.

How the heck do you prove it was signed at Chuck E. Cheese anyway?

I'm wondering if it had been "autographed" by some child's mother with their name on it? XD I have a pony like that actually that came with a bunch of ponies I bought off a friend for cheap... a big ol name written on it's side in ball point pen. The pony's plasticizer leaked out, leaving her rock hard and the pen is in there permanently.

SHE MUST BE WORTH A MINT!!11111

I thought the farm reference was funny! Even if you do get apples instead of fries and milk instead of soda... you're still dealing with delicioiusly over-processed meat byproducts. And who knows what is actually in the apples to preseve them? ;p

Then the pony. o_o;;;

McDonalds y u so silly?

Pony Corral / Re: Did TV influence your collecting?
« on: March 09, 2012, 08:37:20 PM »
I'm a mix between A and B tbh!

Growing up, the cartoons didn't really influence my collecting. Namely, I got what my parents could afford to get me, since I was still very young at the time.  I'd see a pony on the shelf and want it because of its color, not so much because I wanted the character from the show. I didn't always get to see all the pony episodes because my mom disliked having cartoons on TV, and limited my watching to a few hours. I guess it was good in one way, but not so good in others... cause she preferred soap operas and court shows, as well as horror movies! XP  So my MLP time was really me playing in my bedroom or outside.

The current show did have an effect on my collecting. Because I really love it, I got back into collecting childhood favorites. Rewatching the old episodes convinced me to buy Masquerade and Wind Whistler to name a few because of their personalities. Now that I'm an adult with spare money to spend, I can buy ponies for reasons like that. XD  Likewise, I buy up G4 toys because of the show. I'm also leaning toward obtaining more merchandise of my favorite characters because of it. :D

But that said, it doesn't entirely influence my collecting. Sometimes I will buy a pony because I like their design or colors. Sometimes just to fit into a set, or because I just felt like it and the price was right! :P

They pretty much vanished from around here. But sometimes my Walmart has some odd ones in stock. They had her and a few other wave 1's with bangs, so I picked them up for safe keeping. :/ Hopefully I can find more!

I got Rarity and Pinkie today! :D

Though the manager was like WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? When she noticed the two toys on the reciept. Then I explained that I was buying them separately. I need to go back again in the next few days and get another set still in the package. >_<

I still see these once in awhile at Target, and my Toys R Us has had them for awhile. None have been selling... I think because of the price.

I got mine for christmas because my mom wanted to spend $50 on me, and $50 on my husband. So... I was like, OH BUY ME THIS SET! XD  Otherwise I wouldn't have it.

tehrin you shut up, you are so amazing!! XD Man I WISH I could make my costumes look that good and it only took me 3 days!!

It looks good on the outside, terrible and sloppy on the inside. Which is why I don't compete much anymore. LOL (except that Rinoa costume... first costume up there, was actually well made throughout, but I made it in advance haha!)

I do have a fluttershy costume, but I'm not very proud of it! XD I'll remake her entirely someday. I am planning on cosplaying Gusty this summer! :D

I'm glad it went over well for you! It always bothers me so much when people try to force their opinions on what is right and wrong for their child when it comes to their interests, hobbies and toys. Especially the sports thing... ugh! Everyone is so paranoid about their children's sexual orientation that they manage to really mess up and hurt the child psychologically in other ways in the process. Just let the child be who he or she wants to be and explore what they want to. I agree, as long as it's not going to hurt them or get them killed let them do it. :)

My mom probably thought I'd gone off the deep end when I bought BJDs. XD I'm not so much obsessively into mine anymore since I moved out and got married. But I still have them around, change their outfits and pose once in awhile and take one or two to a convention.

She knew I'd gotten into ponies and looked for some at the flea market for me. Bought me some G3's. XD  Also got me ponies for Christmas.

She likes my MH dolls. She bought me Home Ick Frankie for Christmas as well. My husband got a Lego set from them. So they're pretty well aware that we love toys and are supportive of it.  She actually really wants 1600 Draculuara after I showed her mine. Maybe if there's a sale on them, I'll pick one up for her. XD

G3.5's.

They're so ugly!

*finds concept artwork on deviantart*

They're not that ugly, they're kinda cute in these drawings.

*stares at picture*

They're kinda cute... Hmm... :/

Ah poo. Next time I'm at the flea market, I'll look for a 3.5 Starsong. XD
