Pony Corral / Re: How come no one hates Snails?
« on: January 24, 2012, 03:10:02 PM »
While I agree that everyone is going way overboard when it comes to political correctness these days, and am just as exasperated as the rest of you with it, I don't think :muffin: Pony's situation is a case of people going overboard. In this case, I think it's a perfectly valid concern, and I think a line was crossed in the most recent episode. Before, :muffin: Pony was clumsy and wall-eyed. A little questionable, but she was cute (until she became overused and annoying). But then they gave her a dumbed-down voice and manner of speaking. So now besides looking somewhat physically (and possibly mentally) handicapped, she now SOUNDS like she has mental problems AND she's a walking disaster...yeah, I can definitely see how that upsets people. I don't like to read between the lines too much at all, especially in a cartoon, but :muffin: Pony is just over the top now. The "special" look OR the walking disaster/slow voice would be forgivable on their own, but combined, she just comes off very strongly as a stereotypical "special" person. If I were a little girl with a mental OR physical disability, I don't think :muffin: Pony's portrayal would be making me feel good about myself at all, whether I understood her new name or not.

I'm also with Malicieuse on the whole acting condescendingly towards people who are offended by :muffin: Pony. Come on, guys, let's respect each other's opinions. I'm actually quite taken aback by some of the members who are doing this, I expected a little better.

I also think the fact that one person has a similar impairment and thinks :muffin: Pony is funny shouldn't automatically mean she's not offensive to anybody and that the people who do worry about her being offensive are wrong and just "need to chill."

Off Topic / Re: Calico_Star....It's your Birthday day today!!!

Thank you everyone! :lovey: And wow Kala, my very own Lolcat? Why thank you, you're so kind~ ;)

I'll have to bug my mom for pictures of the cake she made me....It's not quite a MLP, but it is a pony, of sorts :)

Creampuf- Yep, I did get a few birthday ponies! I had a small birthday this year, but there were still ponies :) A styling-size Twilight Sparkle that I knew I was getting, and a few ponies my brother found for me at a thrift store. The thrift store ponies included a G3 Fluttershy, a terribly terribly  baity Party Cake and Rainbow Flash, and a baity TE Bright Eyes! I'll make Party Cake and Rainbow Flash into customs, and see what kind of restoration I can do on Bright Eyes. This one is in very rough shape, but I was really psyched to get a G1 pony, and especially a HTF one!

I think my poor mom was a little afraid to buy me ponies for my birthday this year-- she had a bunch set aside since Christmas that she was keeping to give me for my birthday, and then had to take them all back because she found out I already had them! (Even though I made her a list, lol.) I did feel bad about that; I know she tries hard :P

Pony Corral / Re: Glue on Glimmer Wings
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:38:08 AM »
My Ploomette also has a glob of glue in her tail. I assumed it was just a fluke. She's the first G4 that I can recall has had that problem...but she's also my only Glimmer Wing. I passed up several Ploomettes at different stores because they had bad eye or symbol paint before I settled on the one I bought...Sad that Hasbro's quality control has been so lacking lately :(

How cool! Fizzy makes a really pretty dragon! I really like this particular dragon style, too. I love dragons because there are just so many ways to draw them :)

Thanks guys! Zenna, that's my preferred method too! XD "What background? This picture doesn't need a background. I don't want it to....uh...distract from the pony." :P
But I figure since I hate them so much and they're so difficult for me, I should probably practice them every once in a while so I can (hopefully) get better.

Pony Corral / Re: Have you ever unboxed a MIB G1 pony.... :O
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:28:30 AM »
I would never dream of opening a MIB G1 pony, unless the package was so badly damaged that the pony was falling out anyway, or the package had damage (like mold/mildew) that could damage the pony if not removed. Yeah I'm one of those boring types :P

Here's some new art for the new site :)

Sprinkles and Parasol caught in a lightning storm. It looks like Parasol could use some help from the sea ponies to get her across that river!

Why Sprinkes and Parasol? I don't know :) I just like to draw random ponies, and those two were among those on a shelf near me at the time! I wanted to do something a little more dynamic than my usual art, and felt inspired by the scene from the beginning of Rescue at Midnight Castle with the ponies running from the dragons.

I do not claim to have any talent whatsoever when it comes to backgrounds :P

She looks fantastic! Was this the work of regular sunfading, or did you end up putting her in a peroxide bath as well?

SO cute!! Leafeon is one of my faves, you did an amazing job on her! Love those huge eyes! You did a really great job on the sculpting and the gradient on her ears/tail.

Pony Corral / Re: Your favourite way to enjoy ponies!
« on: January 15, 2012, 05:03:05 PM »
My favorite thing is cleaning and restoring dirty, beat-up ponies and making them beautiful again :) I also like just looking at them or holding them, or giving them pretty new tail ribbons. And of course it's always fun to take a pony with me when I go out, so I can take cute pictures :)

Whoo! Very glad to have the Arena back again! I'm really liking the new features, but the generic message board look will take a little bit of getting used to. Very nice so far though. But did I miss something, or is there no mention of this on the old Arena? I've been checking in there once a day for updates as to when the new site would be launched, but there's no mention of it there? Guess it's my fault for neglecting Facebook, since I imagine there was probably an update on there :P

Whoa what, is my photobucket account in cahoots with my arena account now? What is this sorcery?
